He is next to me,
lying down in the sand. The calm ocean lullaby rocks me to sleep. With the last bit of energy remaining in me, I reach out to hold his hand. But his hand is gone. Opening my eyes, I see him kneeling, a velvet box in his hand. Gasping, I sit up. And my dream comes to an end. I was lying in bed, now sitting up. The sheer perfection of my dream startled me awake, and he is just as far away as ever. A single tear falls from my eye.
It has been another night of rude awakenings.
I lay back down, I have more time. But inside I know I won’t fall back asleep. He is there every time my eyes close. I can almost feel his breath, hear his voice, see his god-like flawlessness. But here I am, far away. Out of sight, out of mind.
We will never be together…
