You can still have that choice if the Pledge is returned to its version prior to 1954. The only difference is that when it's secular, it doesn't favour one religion over another and exclude those who don't believe in the Judeo-Christian god. So everyone wins instead of just those of the famous monotheistic religions. It's called fairness.

Really because in 1954 President Eisenhower changed the Pledge by adding the words "under God" to it in order to differentiate the United States from Soviet Russia which, as I'm sure you know, was communist and communism and atheism were HEAVILY associated with each other despite the two not being related. The United States federal government was never founded on the Christian religion - on any religion, actually - and ought remain secular based on the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; ..." Not everyone believes in the same god, or any god at all actually. It's not just an exclusive statement to the irreligious, but to anyone who doesn't worship the Judeo-Christian deity. The Pledge of Allegiance ought to return to its original form, or the most recently updated form prior to 1954. Because it was changed several times. Because it does work that way.

alright im just saying that that's how it always was in scool when we said it and it would just be weird if it was changed. but I get that not everyone believes in the same god or whatever im not even religious so I don't know why im even defending this. If you don't want to say it, then don't when that part is said by everyone else who wants to say it. I think it should be a choice if you want to say it or not.

One passed bill isn't a good reason to call your country disgusting. All right. So women have the choice to terminate a pregnancy that doesn't affect you in any way. Cry about it. Cry about it while other people – siblings, mothers, fathers, cousins, spouses – cry about their brother or husband or sister being deployed to Afghanistan and risk death for your freedoms.

When I was a fetus, I wasn't conscious. I was a fishlike entity developing in the womb. I wasn't what defines human in terms of psychology. I was of the human species, yes, but I couldn't think or walk or even breathe air. Infant humans are different than fetuses. You're overwhelmed by the emotional side of the issue of abortion. I used to think it was awful and was fully against it, too. But honestly, after I realized that it's not my business if another woman wants to terminate her pregnancy, I changed my mind.

That's the great thing about living in the United States. We are given choices and more freedom than many other countries in the world. It seems that people seldom appreciate what they have. You could be executed for expressing your opinion like this in other countries.

Deities do a really good job at sitting back and watching people die in mass murders and taking credit for things that doctors and firemen and police officers and soldiers do sometimes like saving lives in dire situations.

I'm sorry but gods who let bad things happen to good people and claim to be all-loving are not the kinds of gods I want to believe in or trust or have faith in.

God doesn't cause "bad" things to happen. He loves us and grieves with us in our pain when bad things happen. It even says in Ezekiel 18:32, "'For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies.' declares the Lord." Satan - not God – is the evil one, and is behind every evil deed. Satan is all about death; but God is all about life. I suppose the question you'll ask now is "If God isn't causing pain, why doesn't He step in and stop it?" Well, in the bible, God warned us that there would be pain and suffering. He doesn't say "Follow me and you'll live an easy life!" No- he actually WARNS us what will happen, even if we follow Him. But He offered us a beautiful gift of life and salvation. In this life, we are separated from Him, so there will be suffering. But if we use this precious gift of life from Him, He will deliver us into an eternity of peace. He has given us a choice, but most of us choose to reject Him.

I hate to be another bearer of bad news, but there is no evidence that suggests Jesus of Nazareth was born on this very date. Thorough reading and interpretation of the Bible suggests he was actually born sometime in March, August, or September (most especially sometime in the summer, though). Jesus Christ's birthday was pegged at December 25th because this date marks the final day of the old Pagan festival of Saturnalia, which consisted of feasting and celebrating their god of agriculture, Saturn, and it ended on the winter solstice (which on the Julian calendar is the 25th; we use the Gregorian calendar now). This made it easier for Christians of that time to convert pagans to Christianity by keeping the tradition of feasting and gift-giving around the time of the winter solstice.

It is, however, Isaac Newton's birthday today, and he did more than I can put into words to advance mathematics and the understanding of classical physics, which was inexplicably important. :)

In the end, though, this has become a special day of family and thankfulness and showing appreciation and love. I guess that's what really matters.

It's completely different from an eleven-year-old dating a six-year-old in that both she and her boyfriend(?) are both adults. Their brains are essentially done developing and their bodies are essentially done growing (sometimes men continue to grow into their early twenties. A 6-year-old who is just beginning to grasp his cognitive comprehension of the world and what it means to communicate and learn exists within a SIGNIFICANTLY different developmental period than an 11-year-old who is just starting on the years-long, rocky road through puberty, self-discovery, and expansion of knowledge. A 23-year-old and an 18-year-old are brand new adults, still very young and ready to learn the real world and modern society together. Five years isn't much once you're adults (as defined by the law and by anatomical development).
