"Here, try this," I said picking out a dress for her.
My mom was way skinny, but not like a stick.
The dress was longsleeved on one side, and off the shoulder with no sleeve on the other.
"I don't know about black on the first date," she said holding the dress up to her.
"Mom, please try it on, I'll pick out acsessories for you," I said opening up her jewelry box.
"Okay, be right back," she said walking over to the bathroom.
Please work. Please let the guy be nice, cute, and entertaining. I thought.
I was happy for my mom, but sad that my parents are going seperate ways.
I found a pearl necklace and matching earrings.

The bathroom door opened.
"Mom! You look great," I said smiling.
"You think?" She said examining herself in the mirror.
I nodded and gave her the earrings and necklace.
For a cancer fighter, she looked great.
"I'll wear it, then,"
The doorbell rang.
"I'll get it, stay here for a minute, make an appearance,"
She kept looking in the mirror.
I walked down the steps and to the door.
I opened the door and my jaw dropped.
"Jason?"
*FLASHBACK*
"That's beautiful," I said looking at his paintings.
"Just like you," he said and kissed me.
We were kissing for about a minute and then we started talking.
I knew I was young then, but I didn't care, I was in love with him.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
"Oh, hey, Cara," he said.
I could tell that he felt just as awkward as I did.
"Come in, please," I opened the door wider.

Even though I was upset that my mom was dating my ex, I was happy for her.
I went home that night and Ashley and I took the bus to the mall and went to meet up with her friends for dinner. "So Cara, how long have you knew your dad was cheating?" Hannah, one of Ashley's friends asked.
Ashley gave her a look that could kill someone.
I just stared at Hannah.
"Hannah, shut up!" Another one of Ashley's friends, Kate said.
"Sorry," Hannah said to me, rolling her eyes.
Okay so I guess I wasn't making new friends.
But one of Ashleys friends, Carly was being nice.. I think?
Ashley pulled me up from the table we were eating at, and over to the side.
"I am so sorry, I don't know why she did that, but anyways, I'm dropping her this week,"
"Uh, okay..."
We sat back down, and for the rest of the time, I didn't say a word.
I looked at my phone, 2 texts from Amber.
Amby(:- where are you? you ditched our movie night!
Amby(:- oh nevermind, you're probably with Ashley, your new bff.
Me- ohmygosh. i am so sorry! my mom got a date and then i needed to pick out an outfit for her. i had no time to eat and then Ashley told us we were going to dinner. next friday?
Amby(:- whatever.
