    kiss my tears away
    Chapter four
"You have exactly 2 seconds to get off of my daughter."
My father said from across the room.
Kyle went rigid and got off me. He stepped sideways and put his hands slightly up.
"Now get the f*ck out of here. And never come back."
Kyle grabbed his shirt, winked at me, and saluted my dad.
He walked out of my room fast, shrugging his shirt on smoothly.
We heard the front door slam and his car start.
I breathed again. My dad had walked away and my mother came rushing in.
She handed me my sweater, tears were streaming down her face.
"Here, sweetie." I pulled my shirt on and sat up shakily.
My dad came in and sat on the end of the bed.
"How long?" His voice was grave.
I barely could whisper the words, "One year."
He turned his head to the side and I saw a couple tears escape his eyes.
"I'm sorry dad." My voice was thick with my own tears.
He reached over to pat my knee gently, my mother was hugging me.
"Don't ever be sorry, this was not your fault."
But after my parents left me safe and sound in bed, I could only keep thinking,
It had to have been my fault.
It had to have been me that made Kyle so angry.
I deserved the hatred I got from him.
    It was all my fault.

    kiss my tears away
    Chapter two
"Are you done now?" He asked angrily.
I nodded, "Yes, we are done now. I can't be with you anymore."
I met his gaze steadily and he walked up to me. He pressed his body flat against mine and tangled his fingers in my hair. I struggled to push him away but
every move tugged my hair painfully.
One of his hands closed around my wrist, he brought his face to my ear,
    "We're done when I say we're done, sl*t."
Another tear escaped my eye, and he kissed it softly.
"Come on babe, don't cry. I promise, I'm not too bad in bed." He winked at me.
He was pressing himself against me hard, I tried not to want him.
I forced myself to think of all the horrible things he'd done to me.
    "Kyle, get off me."
He grinned, "Feisty. I like it." He purred and tugged me over to the bed.
I opened my mouth to scream but he fell on top of me, knocking the breath from my lungs. I gasped, "Kyle, you're hurting me!" He lifted his body up a little and covered my mouth with his hand. "I'll take it slow. But no screaming, I don't think i'm that good, anyway." He winked again and replaced his hand with his mouth.
I didn't kiss him back but he didn't seem to mind.
He pulled away from me and I tried to roll from underneath him, "Please Kyle. Please. Don't do this!"
He yanked his shirt off and his hands were all over me, "Babe. Relax."
I shut my eyes, "Get off me! Get off me Kyle, Get off!" I screamed loudly, he froze for just a moment after jamming the end of the blanket in my mouth. He reached for my bra strap just as we heard the click of a gun being cocked.

    kiss my tears away
    Chapter two
    "I want you now."
I tilted my head away, exposing my neck. I shivered at Kyles words.
"Mhm." My fingers raked through his hair and his arms tightened around me,
"For real, Zo." I loosened a little, "No, Kyle."
His fingers dug into my back.
"Kyle, No." I said breathily. I tried to shove away.
He held me close, not letting me escape, and continued kissing my neck and my shoulder.
His hands slipped under the hem of my sweater, leaving a trail of goosebumps where ever they touched. "Kyle! Please stop." I said loudly. Were my parents home? My door was shut. His grip was iron around me, I was trapped in the circle of the arms I once thought i'd never want to leave. His fingers tickled the small of my back and I twisted to my left.
"Stop it!" I yelled at him. He smiled at me, "But we're together forever, right?"
I pressed my palms against his chest just as he lifted my shirt over my head. He fell backwards, holding my sweater in his left hand. His face was livid.
I wrapped my arms around myself, shivering in the cold. I was pressed against my computer desk, and Kyle stood a few feet in front of me.
He dropped my sweater and looked like his old self again.
"Baby, why are you crying?" He asked softly.
I wiped my tear streaked face.
    "G-Get out. N-now."
    He looked extremely broken. "What?"
I looked away from the bright blue eyes I'd grown to love and then hate.
"You need to get help. Serious help."
I met his face again, and he was still old Kyle. "What do you mean?"
He looked shrunken, but I wasn't about to fall for it again.
"What do I mean? Look for yourself!" I spread my arms out wide.
I was in skinny jeans and a black bra.
There were bruises up and down my body, trailing softly along my arms.
I spun quietly so he could see the large yellowing bruise i'd gotten from being shoved hard against my desk last Monday. I turned back to face him.
"Who did that to you?" He asked, his voice cracked. I know He knew.
I pointed to my full body mirror. He looked over and shut his eyes.
    When he opened them,
    The Monster was back.

    kiss my tears away
    Chapter one
It was the end of fall.
The multicolored leaves drifted to the ground lazily, completely baring the trees.
"Poor trees. You must be cold." I whispered icily, mesmorized by the plumy puffs of my breath in the cold air. I steadied my earmuffs.
"First sign of being crazy. Talking to yourself."
I looked over at my boyfriend, Kyle, and smiled weakly. He didn't sound like he was joking.
We continued walking in silence for a couple steps. "Er, Kyle?" I said softly. He looked over at me, "What?" I cringed internally and thanked god it was nearing winter.
It was always easier to hide the bruises with long sleeves and scarves.
    "Nothing, nevermind."
We passed by my neighbor, Steve. Kyles hand tightened painfully around mine.
"Keep your eyes off of him." A tear escaped my eye and I brushed it away.
"You know I would never do anything." I tried to pull my fingers from his crushing grip and he only squeezed harder. "Quit struggling. He's staring." He growled at me.
I looked at Kyle hard and willed his old self to come back to me.
His old, fun, happy self. "Kyle, you're hurting me."
His gaze dropped to our hands, where my fingertips were turning blueish. I stifled a moan and let him relax his hand. The feeling of blood returning to my hand was almost painful.
"Sorry, Babe." He slung his arm around my shoulder.
I half smiled at Steve, who had seen and probably heard the whole encounter.
We passed his yard and Kyle relaxed.
"It's not like I don't love how you do it, Nicole. It's that I want you for myself. Nobody wants a sl*t for a girlfriend." He shrugged it off. As if his words hadn't just peirced my heart. "You know i'm not a sl*t, Kyle."
He ignored me, but grabbed my hand again.

    Chapter One
"Mom, I have cheer after school today." I called to my scientist of a mom. She was hunched over the kitchen table, probably examining a cornflake or something. She grunted a short response which I took as yes,
so I grabbed a granola bar and headed out the door.
I flipped my thick brunette hair over my shoulders and examined my lightly made up emerald green eyes in my
pink compact. I snapped it shut just as Jake, my somewhat boyfriend, rode up on the curb and unlocked his car.
"Hey babe." He kissed me quick as I got in the car.
"Jake, please. I just did my make up." He smiled at me and pulled away.
"So, how do you feel?" He asked, after a few moments of silence.
I shrugged and picked at my manicure. "I feel no different, don't be stupid. I'm just 19."
He was still smiling, even though i'd insulted him. "Hey, sorry babe." His right hand strayed from the wheel and rubbed my left thigh softly. Okay, i'll admit it, I was kind of a wh*re, and Jake was turning me on majorly.
Which is why Jake was only my somewhat boyfriend.
I ignored the rush of warmth that shot up my legs and circled my gut. I pushed his fingers off of my skirt and pointed at the road. "Could we focus on not killing us?" His smile faltered, "Sure, babe."
He parked in the closest spot at the school and we got out. He tried to hold my hand but I skipped forward and hooked my arm around my BFF Angela.
"Angie, baaby." I said, as she kissed my cheek and looped our arms together. "19 Babe. Woohoo."
We walked arm in arm to first period. Well, almost first period.
Luke Watson stopped us just outside the door, a sub teacher. He held out his hand.
"Allison." I sighed and pushed Angie ahead,
"I'll be right in." The bell rang and the halls emptied.
"Luke, I don't have your money right now." He grunted, "I saw that coming."
I inched closer to him and ran my fingers up his arm.
Goosebumps appeared where my nails skimmed, he looked away.
"Miss Gray. The money." I shook my head, "Luke, I'm reeeeally sorry."
I layed the sincerity on thick. His gaze melted a little. I pressed myself up against him and wound my arms around his neck. "Come on. You know you can't resist a pretty girl like me." Reluctantly his fingers spidered across my spine and rested on my hips. I pulled his lips towards mine and kissed him hungrily, chasing away his reason for coming to me.
I nipped his ear when he pulled away. His chin stubble scraped my cheek, and I was really turned on.
"I know a place.." I whispered into his ear. He pulled me up so hard I gasped, but directed him down the short hall and into the empty music room.
Let's just say that when he left, I didn't owe him anything. But he did slip his number into my black lace bra as I slid my shirt back on. He kissed me lightly again, smacked my butt, and strode out of the room.
And it didn't even bother my that he was probably almost 30.
And I pranced into first period.

You all must know by now that my life was hell.
And up until I let myself fall, will be.
And yes, i'm scared. But as soon as it's over I won't be thinking of anybody or anything.
Of how horrible you all were. And so, here I go.
Angela, I hate you with all my insides.
And all of her followers for making my life too horrible to continue.
Mom and Dad? You never did anything wrong, really.
But you never did anything right.
Why have a kid if you aren't going to care?
Dad, I'm not a business project. And Mom, I'm not a specimen you can shove under a microscope.
Diana, sweetie, you were an angel to me. And its selfish to leave you, little sis.
    But I have to go.
See you all in another lifetime.

I woke feeling groggy, and when I sat up I first noticed how sore I felt.
    "Morning, sleepy head."
I blinked, and Daniel came into view.
    "Er, Hi."
He looked gravely at me, "Mary. How do you feel?"
I stretched out my limbs, noting silently that I was laying down on his couch, in the empty art room.
Every joint felt stiff and achy.
"I hurt." He nodded, "I figured. I didn't mean to push you so hard, but if I didn't get you out of the way-"
He broke off with a sickening sounding half sob. He cleared his throat, "Well you're better now."
He handed me a mug of something steaming, I sipped it gratefully.
"How did you find me?" I asked him. He averted my eyes, "I couldn't just let you walk out of here."
"You saved my life." I said quietly. He shrugged, "Maybe."
I sat up slowly and put my tea down.
I wrapped both arms around his neck and slowly guided his lips to mine. "Yes, you did."
    I murmured into his mouth.
His hands roamed free, and then locked onto my waist. He pulled me up and onto his lap.
We stopped for a breath and he buried his face in my neck.
"Daniel Layne." I whispered into his ear.
His body shook with a small shiver, and he nipped my earlobe.
"Yes, Mary?" I responded by connecting our lips again.
He pulled away for a moment.
"This sounds so cliche, but do you want to be my girlfriend?"
I giggled and hugged him tightly. "Yes yes and yes."
He let out a sigh of relief, "Thank you."
And we kissed again and again and again.

    Chapter Seven
I parked my car a block or so away and let it idle and then stall.
I shut it off and leaned my head on the steering wheel.
Daniels face kept swimming through my mind. He really didn't see me any different.
And even though that was all I ever wanted, I had pushed him away.
"God Damnnit!" I pounded on my dashboard.
I was so wrapped up in feeling sorry for myself.
I looked out my window as the rain started to fall, a crash of thunder boomed overheard. I jumped,
ever since that night thunder storms had scared me.
I got out of my car and locked it behind me.
    Come here pretty girl,
I whipped my head around, my breath coming in short gasps. "No!"
I fell to my knees, but when I looked up, there was nobody there. I was alone, in a dark street, in the pouring rain.
I stood slowly, my head was aching and I was sure my knees were bleeding.
    Come on, don't run.
I started to cry, shaking my head back and forth to clear my mind of the voice.
"No! No no no no noo!" I started running, the wind was whipping my cheeks.
I skittered on the slick sidewalk and slipped directly into the path of an oncoming car.
"MARY!" I heard someone scream my name, as a bright light flashed into my eyes.
I felt a weight slam in to my side and I hit the sidewalk hard.
    My cheek scraped the pavement.
And right before everything went dark, I realized somebodys arms were around me.
"I said I would keep you safe."
    And I blacked out.

    Chapter Seven
I paused and let that sink in for a minute.
When he didn't answer me I looked up at him, "Well?"
He shook his head slightly, "Well what?"
I gulped a mouthful of air. "Aren't you going to run screaming? Or never want to touch me again?"
My voice was barely above a whisper. He seperated my fingers from his, and inched away from me on the couch.
I willed the tears back, trying to stay strong. "I get it, i'm disgusting." I started to stand up.
He pulled me back to him. "Are you serious? You think I don't want to touch you because of that?"
I yanked my arm from his grip, "You just pulled away from me. You just moved away from me." I let the anger
seep into my words. He just shook his head, "I wouldn't think you would want me to touch you. I-I'm sorry."
He laced his fingers through mine and sat me down on his lap.
He was strong, his arms locked around me, keeping me safe. He smoothed my hair and it wasn't until he kissed them away did I realize tears were streaming down my face.
"Y-You don't l-look at me d-differently?" I hiccuped, praying he could understand me through my snot and tears.
He grimaced. "Hell no. I knew you were fragile from the start. And all I've wanted to do since I met you was be there for you. It's strange, seeing as we don't really know each other. But already I can tell I care about you more than anybody else and that is so new to me. But so wonderful." He brought his face close to mine and pressed our foreheads together.
"You're amazing. And you deserve to be treated as the best."
I shut my eyes. "No. I'm not. I'm garbage."
I reluctantly pulled away. I didn't deserve him.
He let me go, but wouldn't stop looking into my eyes. "Don't do this, Mary."
I started to walk out and he followed me down the steps and just as I was leaving he grabbed my wrist gently.
"Please, don't." I faced him sadly, "Why? Why not?"
He looked on the verge of tears,
"Because I think i'm falling for you."

    Chapter Four
    "Well?" She demanded.
I glowered at her, irritated. "Well what."
She snorted, "Wow, Mary. Uh, how about it's now just 10:00 in the morning and you've been gone for a good 3 hours. And you didn't leave a note or anything. Not even a text message." I glared at my mother. "You may be my mother but you aren't the boss of me any more. I'm almost 20 you know." She shook her head. "While you live here, you follow my rules. Go to your room." I shook my head, tears streaming violently down my face. "No."
I stormed out, back the way i'd come, and instict drove me straight to the coffee shop.
It was really early morning, so the place was deserted. "Hey, Mary. I'm actually heading out for a bit. Mind holding down the fort while i'm gone?" I smiled at Lori, and she hugged me. "Here, i'll be back soon." She tossed me the keys to the place and locked the door on her way out.
I roamed around, aimlessly bored. I turned on the radio and jumped up to a great song.
"strip to the waist, we fall in to the river"
"Cover your eyes so you don't know the secret."
I hummed and sang along with Ellie Goulding.
"But since we found out, since we found out, that anything could happen."
I belted out the long notes, and completely unaware I was no longer alone.
"Well done, Mary." I gasped and spun around, dropping the books i'd been placing back on the shelves in the loft.
I fumbled to turn off the music and we were left in a momentarily awkward silence.
"Why did you stop?" He asked. I ignored it, "How did you get in here?"
He jingled a few keys in my direction. "Lori let's me stop by sometimes. I heard you singing. You're amazing."
I could feel my face heating up, "Er thanks, but i'm nothing special." I waved it away but he insisted.
"Stop acting like you aren't beautifully talented." He took a few steps closer and pulled me into a tight hug, which I let myself melt in to. When I stepped away and looked curiously up at him, he merely smiled crookedly at me.
    "Come on Mary. Sing."

    Chapter Four
"Wow, you look amazing, Mary." He said, as I walked up to the door of the building. He opened his arms for a hug but I awkwardly stepped around it, hiding my face in my brown wavy hair.
He shrugged it off and pushed open the door to let me in. "Go on, I don't bite."
    He winked at me, "Hard."
I supressed a giggle but smiled anyway. God, being happy felt good.
"Well, lets cut to the chase then. If you'll drop your bag, phone, and shoes in this box, don't worry I'm not stealing your stuff. And then have a seat on the sky blue love seat."
I did as I was told, and enjoyed the feel of the smooth wood floor on my bare toes. I sat on my knees, resting my fingers splayed across my thighs. He sat across me from, on a high stool.
"Tell me about yourself, Mary. Let me see you."
All sense of nervousness melted away and I opened my heart.
"Mary Stella, 19, born in california, raised right here in massachusetts. Fell from the popularity tree a couple months back. Recently i've aquired a taste for being alone."
He sat completely still watching me.
"But thats not you. You're used to being in the center of things." He didn't say it in an offensive way, and I didn't take it that way.
    I just nodded.
"If it doesn't make you too uncomfortable, would you take your sweater off?"
There was only silence between us, and it lasted for just a moment.
"Yes." I slowly slid my sweater up over my thin and barely bruised body, and didn't realize until the swoosh of fabric hitting the floor, that I had my eyes closed so tightly I was straining my forehead.
I relaxed and opened my eyes. And he wasn't staring at my chest, like you would've expected.
He was staring directly at my face. Into my eyes.
I blinked at he was looking down at his canvas, scribbling away.
I shuddered, the air was chill, goosebumps raised along my arms.
"What do you see when you look at me, Mary?"
I scrunched my nose at him, "I see a tall, handsome artist."
His eyes twinkled in delight, "Look deeper."
My eyes locked in his and suddenly I was seeing clearly.
I saw happiness, and then grief. And anger. His jaw told the story and an unpleasent encounter, and his angular bones suddenly made his face look unhappy and for a moment he seemed filled with rage.
I relaxed and he was normal again.
"What do you see when you look at me?" I asked quietly, barely whispering the words.
There was a moment of silence that seemed as natural as the sun setting, and then his sweet melodic voice filled the empty echoy room.
"I see anger. And sadness. Overwhelming sadness. I see a sweet girl who's been broken, and needs help putting herself back together. Someone who can help her be herself again."
His breath tickled my face and I opened my eyes, he was standing in front of me, holding out my sweater.
I selfconsciously pulled it over my plain black bra and he held his hand out to me, I took it and he pulled me into a hug.
    "You can be you again."
He let go of me, and handed me the canvas.
When I looked down, I almost gasped aloud.
Tears filled my eyes as I looked into what could've been an open book on myself.
And I saw everything he had been describing.
The sadness in my eyes, the hurt in my face, the grief that had settled in my brow.
I hugged it to my body and smiled at him.
    "Thank you."
"If you don't mind me asking, where did you get those bruises?" He asked, tracing one lightly with a soft finger.
I flinched away. "Nowhere, it was nothing. Thank you, I appreciate it. I have to go though, and I'll call you I guess."
He nodded, seemingly untouched by my obvious lie.
"I can help you. Or at least try." His voice broke on the last syllable, and I looked away.
    "I'll call you."

    Chapter Three
My cheek rubbed hard across the pavement, I winced in pain.
My legs were roughly pulled unti I was laying flat on my back.
I could feel something pooling below my neck, my throat ached as I opened it to scream.
I sat up gasping, clutching my throat. The tears rushed down my face and I dropped back down into the satin sheets. I rolled over and wiped my eyes, trying hard to breath evenly.
And in that moment I did something that I still don't regret.
I grabbed my phone and dialed the small, messy number that had been scribbled on a torn napkin.
It rang four times, and I almost gave up.
There was a click, a disgruntled sigh, "Morning?"
My voice quaved uneasily, "H-Hi. Sorry, I didn't realize h-how early it i-is."
There was an audible intake of breath, some rustling around, and then Daniel cleared his throat.
"No way, don't worry about it. This is Mary, right?"
I nodded, mentally noting he couldn't see me. "Yes, this is Mary. And I decided you can paint me. If you still want to." I could hear a bit of rushing around and then a door slam. "Hell yes I do. Meet me at this address, 20 minutes sound good?" I agreed and hung up, and put on dark denim skinny jeans, and a peach and white striped sweater. It was just baggy enough to not look messy. I brushed out my beach wave hair and grabbed my MK bag.
When I was sitting in my car, almost done applying a little makeup, I realized I was smiling.
I actually felt pretty. It was such a change from the usual sweats I wore.
And I was giddy. I was going to meet a total stranger in some art gallery, and I was excited about it.
I shook my head as I sped off in the direction of the gallery.
    In the direction of Daniel.
    Of my destiny.

    Chapter Two
"Hey. Mind if I have a seat?"
I looked up startled as a tall and well built guy placed his hand on the chair next to mine.
I smiled weakly, still fixed from my last memory..
    "Sure,"
His face fell almost unnoticably. I ignored it and sipped my cocoa.
"What are you drinking? Anything good?" He looked over to peek in my huge green mug. I crinkled my nose at the stranger. "No alcohol, just cocoa." He chuckled, "I love chocolate. Lor, can i get a mug of that?" He gestured to my own half empty cup and then grinned at the petite blonde woman.
He looked back to me and held out his hand, "I'm Daniel."
I eyed his hand warily and nervously picked at the hem of my hoodie.
He held up both hands in mock surrender, "Just trying to be friendly."
His hair was wavy, mid length and the darkness of it framed his tan skin nicely. His teeth were perfect and white and his eyes were the most brilliant shade of green i'd ever saw.
Without thinking I reached out and grabbed one of his hands and shook it. "I'm Mary."
I dropped his warm hand as fast as I grabbed it and reached for my cocoa.
    He grinned, "Hi, Mary."
He was silent for a moment, "Well what's a lovely girl like yourself doing out here all alone on a saturday night?"
I shrugged, "I'm not lovely. And I really haven't got anybody else." I was purposly being as blunt as possible.
He didn't seem to catch on to it.
"I think you're beautiful. And surely you must have tons of friends, I don't believe you."
Again, I shrugged. "I used to. But nobody wants to be friends with me anymore."
He seemed surprised, "Surely you're joking? Because, here I sit, a total stranger, and I'm struggling to make small talk with the most beautiful girl i've ever seen."
I felt my cheeks heat up and I looked away. "I'm not beautiful."
He shook his head, undeterred. "You are. And i'd like to paint you sometime. I'm an artist, and I feel like you are a wonderous inspiration." He dropped a torn piece of napkin in front of me and slipped a 5$ bill under his mug before walking out.
As I lay in bed that night, (The napkin with his number on it securely placed in my nightstand)
All I could think about was how his eyes were
The most brilliant shade of green i'd ever saw.

    Chapter One
I ran my fingers over the already fading bruises, they were a little bigger than the size of my palms, and were splatter on my upper body.
I traced my chapped lips with a cold and nail bitten finger.
I shut my eyes to try and block out the mental images.
A hand, reaching out and pulling me in..
Rough fingers, scraping my skin. Pulling my hair.
I shuddered and opened my eyes.
I was home. I was safe.
I pulled a grey hoodie on over my bra and some sweatpants over my new vistoria secret underwear.
"Hey, sweetheart." My mom came in as I was tying the loose pants tight. "How are you feeling?" She asked. I looked away and brushed a tear from my cheek. I cleared my throat, "I'm feeling fine. I'm going to go to Lilys house." I grabbed my purse from the bedside table, trying to avoid the fear displayed on my mother face..
"Are you s-" I cut her off, holding up my hand. "I'm a big girl. She's right down the road."
I didn't need another 'I told you so lecture." I stormed out of the house, my long brown hair whipping around my face in the wind. The cold air bit my cheeks and made my eyes water. I didn't go to Lily's.
I pulled into the little coffee shop/cafe that was on the corner of Berk St.
I grabbed my wallet and raced through the wind and was welcomed by a gush of warm, peppermint filled air.
"Mary. It's been so long." Lori came bustling over to me from behind the counter. She hugged me tight and kissed my hair. "Cocoa on the house, come and relax." She walked away swiftly and I thanked my not-so-lucky-recently stars Lori was such a kind soul.
She slid a huge mug of steaming chocolate my way and I sipped greatfully.
When I shut my eyes, a mans face swam in to view.
    Tall. Gruff. Angry.
I gasped, and choked a little as tears filled my eyes.
    When would the nightmare end.

    "42." I heard someone call.
I perked up and went to the counter to get my green tea.
I fought the crowded coffee shop to get outside, burning my tounge on my beverage.
The sky was darkening, the sun was slowly slipping below the horizon of small shops.
Murky windows beckoned like sunken eyes, colors were bleeding into each other.
My phone rang, breaking me from my reverie.
"Mary! Where in Gods name are you!?" My mother shrieked into the phone.
I juggled my purse, phone, tea, and boutique bag. "Mom, chill out. I was at Belle's and then grabbed a tea at Starbucks. I'm on my way home now. I'm gonna grab a cab, my feet are killing me."
"NO! No cabs. You will walk. You know I don't trust those things. You're 19, you're still a young woman. Hurry and get home, babygirl."
She hung up and I tossed my phone into my Michael Kors bag. (50% off at Macys!)
Ignoring her demands, I haled a taxi over. There was no way I could walk another mile or so to the parking lot up town where I'd left my car.
I took a seat in the back and handed the man 10$, pretty generous for a 5 minute ride. "The lot up town."
He stuffed the money away and started around towards my destination.
About a minute into the drive, we were stopped, flooded in traffic. "Sorry ma'am." He spoke in clipped spanish accented english. The sky was really getting dark now. 6 minutes later I grew fed up.
"Let me out, keep the change." He unlocked his cab and I grabbed my things, taking off down the sidewalk.
"Hey, sweet thaaang." I heard someone snicker at me. I hugged my coat closer to my body and hurried my pace.
A huge wall loomed up to my left and in front. Did I take a wrong turn?
    I paused to looked away.
That would have been my first mistake.

    Stormy Night
    Chapter | Two
I've always heard that when you die, your life flashes before you.
    Personally, I don't believe it.
    TWO YEARS LATER
My mom called for me to wake up just as my alarm sounded off. I groaned but stood up and let my long auburn hair fall behind me. I changed fast into short denim shorts and a blue and orange loose sweater. I laced my converse and grabbed my bag, because I knew in exactly 3 minutes my best friend Lindsay would be pulling up in front of my house to give me a ride to school.
"Have a good day, Melanie." My mom said to me, as I walked through the kitchen. I smiled dully and patted my littler sister, Emily, on the head before shutting the door behind me. I walked a little down the side walk and lit up a cigarette, taking a drag before I heard the smooth engine of Lindsay's BMW. 16th Birthday present. We, (All of us) Are so spoiled.
She honked once and I tossed the unfinished smoke to the ground
and ran to the passenger side. I hopped in and we took off.
"I saw that missy!" Lindsay said, I smiled. Leah complained from the back, "Why does she always get the passenger side?" I stuck my tongue out at her, "Because I'm amazing. Bagels?" I asked hopefully, Leah tossed me a muffin instead and Linds pointed to a chai tea in the cup holder.
" We wouldn't forget!" I munched happily. "So, sleep over tonight? Whose house?" We stopped to pick up another one of us. (We have a little group.) I grinned as Sara climbed in the car, "Hey hotties, Muffins? For me? You shouldn't have!" She grabbed a muffin from the brown bag and licked her lips happily. "Love you guys. Mmm." "Where's Bella?" Lindsay asked,
as if she'd only just noticed her absence. "Sick as f*ck." I laughed and we pulled into the last of the senior parking spots, beating Miranda Corbin to it. She honked angrily and drove off to park down the street like everyone else. ''My house for sure." Lindsay said, and we all stepped out of the car.
By now, I was used to all of the looks we got. I mean, we were all pretty and likeable. Now just because I'm 'one of those girls' as you say, doesn't mean i'm a b*tch. Because trust me, I've been on the bad end of the food chain before. But of course, with a bit of hard work, I ended up right on top. Where I deserve to be.
My boyfriend, Aaron Looke, walked up by my side and grabbed my hand in his. He planted one on my unsuspecting face, and I had to descreetly wipe my mouth after it.
That was something I didn't like, his kissing. But I'd been in love with this boy since the third grade and I was not letting him slip through my fingers.
"Melanieee, come on." Lindsay moaned, intertwining our fingers and pulling me along. Aaron kissed me again and walked off with his friends.
