still breathing
chapter 14.
"I have to find him," I said as soon as I finished reading. "But you don't know where he is," Morgan protested. "I don't care, I'm finding him," I shot. "I'm coming with you." I shook my head. "Please, stay with Nevaeh," I said, gesturing towards the room where Nevaeh was sleeping. Morgan sighed. "If I text you, text me back ASAP, please, please be careful," Morgan pleaded. "Yes mother," I smiled. She hugged me. "Good luck," she grinned. I grabbed my coat and headed out the door. Morgan was right, I had no idea where to look, but I thought I could start around town. As I was walking past the cafe, there were a group of guys I recognized. I thought for a second and tried to a remember where I had seen them, then I remember they had gotten into a fight with Eddie one time at a club. But maybe they knew where he was. As I approached the group, one of the guys moved over and my heart dropped when I met the familar caramel eyes of the boy standing behind him. Colin. Still, I didn't stop walking towards the group. Colin brushed past the guys and I found myself face to face with him. "Raven..." he whispered. I looked at him, and I'm sure he could see the worry in my eyes. He opened his mouth to speak, but one of the guys cut him off. "Owwweee! Hey hottie, how you doing?" he winked. Colin whipped around. "She's Eddie's girl Drake, back off," he spat. "Eddie? Dead Eddie, you mean?" he smirked. "What?" I gasped. Colin's warm hand met mine and pulled me to a cafe table. "What was Drake talking about?" I asked. "That's why I'm down here, close to your house. I was coming to tell you the news..." he trailed off. My face turned pale. "Eddie and Drew...they're in trouble. The boys and I saw them not too long ago, they were at a bar. Both of them being very drunk told me everything. How Eddie finally got in touch with Drew after his little run away, how he was nervous about marrying you..." he stopped and look up at me, then continued, "then there was a fight. I'm not exactly sure how it started, but next thing you know, about 8 huge guys ganged up on Drew and Eddie. I'm not giving you details, but they're in the ER. Eddie protected Drew from a lot of punches...and...a guy..h-he hit him with a beer bottle. He's in really bad condition. I called you, but you're phone was off. But, I was going to take you to see him." I just stared at Colin. "You're lying!" I shouted as I ran off. I ran and ran until I reached an alley way. Unfortunately, Colin could outrun me by far, and he was next to me within seconds. "Raven, I'm telling the truth, you got to believe me," his words whispered into my ear as we stood in the alley way. "No, it's not true. He's ok-kay, I know he is. H-h-he has to be," I stuttered, trying to convince myself. "Baby don't cry. You're going to be fine." "N-not without him! Don't you understand-d? He's my w-whole entire world! I can't live without him. I w-w-won't live without him," I screamed, letting the tears fall down my cheek. Tan arms wrapped around me and pulled me into a hug. "I'm so sorry. But I'm here. I'm here and I always will be." I pushed him off. "You're wrong and I know it. I will prove you wrong," I spat. I turned around and stalked off. I didn't care that it was late and I was alone. I was going to find him. And I kept whispering to myself it was all lies.
But deep down, I knew all the convincing in the world wouldn't stop the truth.
