    Chapter One
    ♥ ing
I take my coat off the coat rack and head out to get some water for my mom from the creek that runs through the collony. As I was walking to the creek, places that I was passing by brought back memories from when my father was still well.
Hunting in the close by woods along with my twin brother Seth. We didn't get along when we were little because I felt as if my father favored him over me because of Seth's brains but, when our father became ill we put our past behind us amd became closer as the years rolled on. Mostly because we wanted to stay strong for our ill father and mentally distraught mother.
When I reached the long, narrow creek I rested my bucker on a big ragged rock off to the side and bent down on my knees. Washing the cool water over my sores from working around the collony to make a little bit of money to support my family. The air brushed across my damp face causing goose bumps to rise and shivers to run through my body.
"Hey, down there!" The voice startled me causing me to dump and knock over my bucket of water. My eyes searched the woods surrounding me to find a face that the voice would belong to. My eyes then caught a tall, thing but strong looking girl in the distance with a knife clutched in her fist.
"You scared me." The girl said as I was standing up and brushing the dirt off my knees. I could feel the girls eyes staring me down, searching for a response. "I'm sorry for startling you!" I responded sacrcastically with a slight sharp tone to me voice. "Well if you don't mind I'll be on my way now." I grabbed the knocked over bucket and filled it right to the top of the rim with water and headed off into the direction in which I came from.
"Wait, the name is Bristle and You?" The girl called out. I kept on walking trying to ignore her. I needed to get back soon before dark and prepare dinner with my mom. A knife came spewing through the trees and into an oak tree exquisetly
close to my head. I turned to face Bristly. "I asked you a question." Bristle said with a stern voice. "The name is Rocco."

    Prologue

My stomach growls. Stomach aches...occuring more often then not. A constant reminder of how little control we have. Where we live, what we eat, how many children a family can have. It is all in the hands of Cleon. I live in the Colony. A large barricaded city where we live out our lives in hunger and poverty. The colony is one of the two citys on Pangea. In school they teacj is how once the land of Earth was spread out like islands in the ocean. When they started to drift back together, boarders were questioned and a war broke out. Killing just about half of the Earth's 10.7 billion people.
After this happened they collected the families and children and brought them to the colony. Since most of the food supply was destroyed in the war. Families are only allowed to have two children and maany eat once a day. The food tipically consists of anything left over from the farms. Cleon on the other hand is completely different. Unlike the colony which is surrounded by vast forests and the out lawed canibals roaming beyond the barriers of the city. Cleon has as much of the food left over from the war and is on the shore of Pangea.
They owm the collony and control each and every one of us. But recently Cleon is losing power and their taking notice of that. So for the last decade they've been stealing Children from young ages to take their "perfect" traits and put it into a blank body and create Cleon a perfect leader.
We (as in my brother and I, our friends, cousins...anyone.) could be taken at any second for out traits and we have no say or control over it...
writers note: I hope you guys like this story. I was so inspired by The Hunger Games and so sad when I was done reading the books I decided to write a book kind of like it. So here it is... Hope you enjoy and please please give me feed back on it. I want to know if you actually like it!

    Chapter Three
    Part Two♥ ing
    Amy p.o.v
“Losin up girl, we'll have fun I promise. Don't worry." Brayden said. I guess I seemed nervous for him to say that. I gave him a smile in exchange."Well we're here!" Brayden exclaimed. I turned to look out the window and saw a duck pond frozen all the way through to make a skating rink. People where skating every where and for the most part pretty fast." Your joking right?" I questioned. "Hello No!" Brayden smiled. "Just because your a star hockey player doesn't mean I am one two. I've never skated in my life. Don't you think this is a bad way to learn, It's crowded here!" I expressed. "No becuase you got me. I won't let you fall." His words seemed so sincere. All I had to do right now was trust his words.
He grabbed the skates he packed for the both of us out of the back seat. We sat down at a nearby table and tied our skates. Once we were all finished tying them Brayden grabbed my hand and led me to the ice. He seemed so excited, me on the other hand was terrified. I just met him and now I'm probably gonna make a fool out of myself. He stepped on to the ice first. He made it look so easy, andit couldn't be that bad. I went to step on the ice and felt my feet slip from right underneath me. I started to panick. Brayden pulled me in close and wrapped his arms around me. "Don't worry, remember I got you." He whispered into my ear.
We started making progress and actually starting to move around the rink. I glanced down at our interlocked fingers and smiled to myself. I'm with most amazing guy, skating for the first time. How could it get any better? "See Amy, your a natural. Soon enough you'll be skating circles around me." Brayden bluffed a little. I got stable and started to feel more comfortable with the slippery ice beneath me. I went to try to skate off by myself, but my feet had other plains. My feet whiped out beneath me. I forgot to let go of Brayden's hand and I pulled him down with me. He saved my fall by letting me fall on top of him. My chest was up against his. My heart was racing so fast I was afraid he could feel it. I was staring into his big, gorgeous, brown eyes. Our faces got closer and closer before I knew it our lips were touching. I could feel him smile against my lips. His warm breath against mine. We sat up slowly with our lips still interlocked. Brayden raised his hand slowly to my cheek as I wrapped my arms around his neck. Nothing could change how I felt in this moment.
He gently pulled away and rested his four head against mine. "See falling isn't that bad. You have me there to catch you." Brayden laughed. I barely made out what he was saying because I was just so lost in the moment. "How about I help you up and we head home?" I nodded my head and grabbed his hand that was reached out towards mine. He lifted me up onto my feet and we skated over to the table and untied our skates. Brayden packed up all our stuff into his bag and we were headed for the car.
I hopped in to the nice warm convertible. After Brayden threw our stuff in the back, I rested my head against his shoulder and interlocked my fingers with his free hand. He looked down at me and kissed my head. We pulled into my long drive way a few moments later. I unbuckled my seat, grabbed my phone from the dashboard and went to open the door, but Brayden took my hand and pulled me back in. He took his soft warm hand and placed it on my face to turn it so it was facing his and kissed me one last time for the night. I slowly pulled away and opened the door."Goodnight Amy." I turned around, waved and blew a kiss. When I was walking towards my door Brayden blew the horn forcing me to turn around again. He then blew me back one and winked. I laughed and reached my porch, opened the front door and shut it behind me, leaning against the door I started thinking the whole night through. Everything seemed like it was moving so fast, but I didn't mind it at all...

    Chapter Three
    Part one♥ ing
    Amy p.o.v
“You ready?” Brayden texted me. “As ready as I’ll ever be J” I texted back. “Quick question, where do you live?” I totally forgot to tell him. “Yeah that would be a good thing to know. Hahaha, I live on 37thLakewood Avenue. It’s big blue house you won’t miss it.” I picked up my coat from my bed and shut off the light as I left my room. I heard the doorbell ring twice and I could only hope it was Brayden. I rushed down the stairs as fast I could, but Blake seemed to beat me to the door. Sure enough it was Brayden. Blake and Brayden exchanged “Bro” hugs, as I stood there confused on what to do. “I wasn’t expecting to see you here! Almost forgot to congratulate you on the wrap around goal you made yesterday.” Brayden expressed. “Oh it was nothing” Blake bluffed. Brayden turned to me and winked “Damn Amy, you look….just….WOW!” I giggled and couldn’t help but blush. “Awww thanks Brayden. I guess... if that was a compliment.” He definitely had his way with words. “Alright so I’m gonna leave now, you two have fun.” Blake gave Brayden a “bro” hug goodbye and waved as he walked into the living room. “You ready?” Brayden said as he faced me.
We walked out to his car. It was a dark red jaguar convertible. Much better than my junk yard pickup truck I got for my 16thbirthday. He opened the passenger seat door. When I hopped in I could instantly smell a mix of axe and car cleaner. It made me feel content in a way I couldn’t explain. Brayden turned the station on and “Best I Ever Had by Drake” came on. “You, you the best, best I ever had….” Brayden’s voice trailed off with the radio. Every time the chorus came on he managed to look at me. I started to get bad butterflies more than ever before, my hands started to get all sweaty, and I couldn’t think straight. Was I imagining this or was this really happening. “So I didn’t know Blake was your brother?” Brayden asked, trying to start a conversation. “Oh he isn’t.” I said looking out the window. Trying to avoid eye contact. I feel as if, if I did I’d blush too much. “Then why was he over your house, are you guys friends from before or something?” Brayden questioned. “He’s my cousin I’m staying with him and his Mom a.k.a my aunt while my Dad is away.” I explained. “That’s funny he never mentioned you, well he did but I didn’t realize you where our age.” I turned to face Brayden.

“Hey, how was your day?” My Aunt asked me, as I walked through the door. I lived with my aunt and her son Blake in their house in Nashville, Tennessee while my dad was away. I lived with a different family member every time he was gone. I placed my bag on the closes kitchen chair. “Good.” I answered shortly. “Meet anyone new?” My phone started to vibrate in my pocket as my aunt said that. I reached in and grabbed it to see who it was. The caller ID read “Brayden”. I couldn’t help but smile when I read the name pop up. “Uhhh yeah, just a few people. I guess.” I said looking at my phone. “Wear something warm I have a surprise for you” Brayden texted me. “A surprise?” I sent back to him. “Hey Auntie Sarah, I met someone today and he was wondering if he could show me down town tonight?” I told her. She looked at me with a suspicious look on her face. “A boy? What’s his name?” My Aunt asked concerned. “Brayden, he seems really nice. He said he would pick me up by seven, so I wouldn’t need a ride. Please?” I begged with the best pleading face I could do. She smiled at me and nodded. “Alright, I guess you can go, but make sure you’re back by ten.” She instructed. “Thank you so much. I’ll make sure I’m back in time, I promise.” I ran over to her and gave her a hug. I grabbed my bag from the kitchen chair and ran upstairs to get ready. I wasn’t exactly sure what to wear. All I knew was it had to be something warm, but I wanted it to be cute at the same time. I opened the doors to my closet and right away found my ripped Abercrombie jeans, a plain black long sleeved shirt and my American eagle hoodie to put over it. I let my hair fall onto my shoulders into lose curls. When I was finished getting ready all I could do was stare at the clock and pray to god the time would go by faster.
“Amy, do you know where my char…ummm where are you going?” My cousin questioned me. I looked down at my outfit. “Is it really too much?” I asked confused. “It depends where you’re going?” He sat down on the bed, beside me. “Well someone asked me if he could show me around down town tonight. I’m not exactly sure what to wear.” I told Blake. I wasn’t expecting much since he was guy and he really didn’t understand why it was a big deal to look nice going down town. “Then you look good. Who is he?” Blake asked. “His name is Brayden; he’s a defenseman on the varsity ice hockey team.” I answered his question. “Wait, you mean to tell me Brayden Terasse asked you on a date? He’s like my best friend. I can’t believe he actually asked you out. He’s the type that can get any girl he wants.” Blake explained to me. “Wow thanks Blake that made me feel so good about myself. I mean I’m not that ugly believe it or not” I said back to him in a kind of pissy tone. “No I didn’t mean it like that; I just thought he had a thing with Kelsey. The captain of the cheerleading squad. They broke up like last month. I could have sworn they were gonna get back together. What can I say, I mean he is Brayden. He does what pleases him.”
Now I was second guessing myself. If Brayden was all he seemed to be what would he want with me. I’m just a nerd with a pretty face. Nothing special. “What where you gonna ask for when you first came in?” I asked trying to change the subject. “Oh do you know where my phone charger is?” He asked. “Yeah, I saw it downstairs in the living room.” I answered. “Thanks Amy. Have fun.” Blake said as he patted my head and walked out of my room. I checked my phone to see if I had any missed calls or messages. There was one message from Brayden in my inbox. “Yeah, I think you’ll have fun ;)” I hope he’s right. I kind of need it right now because I’m missing my dad like crazy. He’s all I have left ever since my mom passed away when I was five. I think that’s why Blake and I get along so well, he lost his Dad three years ago in a fire. His Dad was a firefighter and perished in what they call the biggest fire of Nashville, Tennesse since 1908. He was trying to save a little girl, Emma. He ended up rescuing her but he couldn’t save his own life. My Dad is my hero and Blake’s Dad was his hero. I hope tonight will allow me to get my Dad off my mind for a little while. I hope it goes well...

“Brayden, your grades are slipping drastically. Either you raise the grades, or you don’t play in the upcoming play offs for hockey.” Mrs. Widley explained to me. My hands started sweating and all of a sudden I felt like the walls where going to cave in. Me not playing in the play offs was like a sandwich without the bread. My team needed me I was considered the best defensemen on the team. There was no way I would let them down. “So you’re saying if I get my grades up by the end of this semester I can play?” I responded back with a little bit of hope. “Sure thing.” I felt a little relief once she told me that, but I still didn’t know how I was going to pull this off. “Thank you Mrs. Widley. I won’t let you down.” I said picking up my school bag and my hockey equipment. I reached the door to the office and opened it as fast as I could, I wanted out of this place.
“Owe, watch it.” I heard from behind the door. The door closed behind me. As it shut I found a girl on the floor holding her head, with books sprawled out on the ground. She was wearing a flower printed skirt and a plain white tank top. Her long brown curled hair was in a lose ponytail. “Oh my god, I am so sorry. Let me get that.” I said picking up an algebra book. This book got me thinking, she was smart and beautiful. She would make a good tutor. Right, and if it was successful, I could play in the play offs. “Don’t worry about it…hey aren’t you Brayden Terasse.” She asked so politely. “Why yes I am, what’s your name?” I felt horrible asking. She knew who I was, but I had no clue as to who she was. “Amy.” She pushed her long hair behind her ears. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before.” I couldn’t stop staring at her; she was beautiful in every way. “Well I just moved here. My Dad’s in the army so we tend to move a lot.” I kind of figured she was new, because I would have remembered that face.
“Well Amy, I can show you around if you’d like, how about we start off down town. I can pick you up at seven.” She smiled as I was finishing my sentence. “Like a date?” She questioned. “Only if you would like to consider it one.” I gave her a wink and took my phone out of my back pocket, she pulled out hers and we exchanged numbers. “Well see you tonight” I said to her, slipping the phone back into my pocket. “See you, Brayden.” She smiled and waved goodbye as she walked off in the opposite direction. Everything was finally seeming like it was falling into place.
