    But I want a voice
    I leave only after

    I hate myself
    For the words I speak
    I am threatened

    I am here
    But not alive

    I've become "numb".
    You could say hateful things,
all day long,it does not bother me anymore.Im "numb". At this point nothing hurts me. Call me names? Ok,does not bother me one bit. One thing that does,is when others do such things to others. They should not have to be "numb" like I am. I am only "numb" because no one stood up for me. If someone did, everything would be different, maybe I would not be scared to go to parties,or talk to people. Everything would be different just if one person said something to those people. I never had the courage to say anything and stand up for myself.

Grace and I always walked home together, though she had a car she preferred to walk with me. The first stop was her house, a couple of blocks away from my house. “I'm not actually in this 'game', you know.”
“What do you mean? You agreed to it.”
“I'm not going to try to get with Mr Parker, yes he's hot but he's a teacher and that just crosses the line.”
“Yeah... I guess but I need that money.” Grace knew about everything with the house and needing money, I felt comfortable speaking to her about it.
“There are other ways to get it,” she told me, sympathetically.
“This is the fastest,” I replied.
“I wish I could help you... do you know where you'll be staying?” she asked.
    “Uh, probably my Aunt Cassidys.”
“The one with the really, really hot son?”
    “You mean Justin?”
“Yes! He is so sexy! I don't know how you hang out with him without ripping his clothes off.”
“Ew! The guys like a brother...”
    “A hot brother,” Grace winked.
“Anyway, bye. Text me tonight, kay?” Grace hugged me.
“Yep. Bye Logie!” she giggled. As I walked, home, alone, I thought about what would happen if I got caught. Actually, I would be foolish to think that I actually could get Mr Parker to be my boyfriend. Competing with Jasmine, Courtney, Sasha, Grace and Rachel I had no chance, they were all experienced and all stunning.
I was a virgin all round, I had never had a boyfriend, I had never kissed a guy and I definitely had never had s/x. How would I even get him to be interested in me?
I walked into my house to see my mum packing the things from the living room into cardboard boxes. “Oh, sweetie. You're home early,” my mum said.
“It's four, I'm home normal time.”
“I thought it was earlier, silly me. We need to talk.” I nodded, waiting for her to continue. “I spoke to Aunt Cassidy today, we will be moving in with her as of Saturday,” she told me. “I hope that's okay, Logan. I had no other choice.”
“I understand, totally, mum but Saturday is in two days. Are we going to be able to pack everything in time?”
“Yes, don't worry about that. Focus on school, I promise everything is going to work out just fine.”
“Do you want me to help you with this or go and start with my room?” I asked.
    “Go do your homework.”
“I don't have any,” I lied. In fact I had Maths and History homework and a lot of it. I would stay up later tonight and do it.
My mum frowned, “Are you sure? You have been complaining about all the homework and you don't have any?”
“A lot of students weren't at school today, some sport thing,” I shrugged. I hated lying to my mum, it was the worse thing ever but I knew the homework would take me a while to complete and my mum would tell me to do that first. She didn't seem happy with my reply but didn't say anything else.
I walked upstairs and started packing everything in boxes. I started with my cupboard, I never imagined doing this but then again, who did? I looked around my room, this had been my room all my life and as of Saturday, it wouldn't be anymore. Maybe it was for the best, this house contained memories of when my father was still with us, once we moved in with Aunt Cassidy we'd be able to start for over for once and for all.
    Hopefully.

“Oh my gosh, Mr Parker is so damn sexy!” As I was walking to lunch, all I could hear was people talking about Mr Parker, I agreed he was sexy but no student had a chance with him.
He was a teacher after all.
Grace and I spoke to each other as we walked to Courtney and the other girls, there was Jasmine, Rachel and Sasha. They were all drop-dead gorgeous. Courtney was the 'it' girl of our school, every girl wanted to be like her and every guy wanted her. She was perfect, with beach blonde hair, blue eyes and the perfect figure. Jasmine Black was beautiful, she truly was. She was one of those girls who didn't need to try to be beautiful because she would always be with her long, wavy brown hair and hypnotising brown eyes. Rachel Duker was one of a kind with her long black hair, pale complexion and bright green eyes, she stood out from the crowd. When I first met her in the 9th grade, I thought she was scary, honestly. She looked like a goth, she dressed exactly how they could, stereotypically speaking of course. Though, she is the funniest girl you'll ever meet. Sasha Kab used to be one of those girls who were bullied, she was bullied because of her dark skin. After the brown haired beauty started hanging around with Courtney, she was never bothered again.
“So, what is it?” I was the first one to speak. Courtney and I weren't close, at all. Out of the five of us, Jasmine was the closest to Courtney.
“Well, I wanted to make this year interesting,” Courtney said. The smirk on her face showed that what ever she was thinking wasn't a good idea.
“And how are we going to do that?” Grace asked.
    “Play a little game.”
“Game? Court, this better not be anything illegal,” Sasha said.
“For Logan, Jasmine and you it is 'cause you guys are 17, for Rachel and I it's just breaking a couple of rules.”
“I'm out,” I said. “I really don't want to get in trouble for doing something that's against the law.”
“C'mon! You're 18 soon anyway! Anyways, you all know Mr Parker right?”
“The new sexy teacher,” Jasmine giggled.
“Yeah, out of the six of us, whoever can get with him first wins five thousand dollars.” My eyes widened, that was a lot of money.
Money which could help my mum.
“You have to be with him for a week, though,” Courtney put in.
“He could go to jail!” Grace exclaimed. “And we could get expelled!”
“Live a little, would you? So, who's in?” Nobody said anything when all of a sudden, Rachel smirked.
    “I'm in,” she told us.
    “Grace?”
    “No...” her voice trailed off.
    “It'll be fun!” Rachel said.
“Okay, I guess.” I don't know if Grace actually wanted to do it or if she was scared because Courtney was glaring at her, making it almost impossible to say no.
“Jasmine, Sasha, Logan?” Jasmine and Sasha both agreed quickly and then all the girls were staring at me. What should I say? Yes, no? It was hard to decide because I knew we needed the money but if I got caught I definitely wouldn't get a scholarship to university, which I desperately needed.
Or maybe I wouldn't get caught.
“Yes. Yes, I'll do it,” I agreed.

“Courtney said she wanted to talk to us,” My usually bubbly best friend, Grace whispered to me.
“What... why?” I questioned, it was unusual for Courtney to request to speak with us. When she did, it always meant trouble.
“I have no idea,” Grace frowned.
    “Well, lets go find her.”
“No, she said at lunch.” Grace told me, chewing on her on her fiery red hair. The beginning of the day went quickly and soon it was the period right before English. I loved English and the teacher, Mrs Bale was amazing. She was one of the young teachers, probably in her late 20s. With long, strawberry blonde hair and big emerald eyes, all the guys thought she was one of the hottest teachers in the school.
I walked into the classroom, expecting to find Mrs Bale sitting on her desk. I didn't though, I saw a young man. He looked as if he could be one of the oldest students in our school, defiantly not a teacher but there he sat on a chair behind the desk in front of the classroom. A name was written on the board in neat cursive handwriting.
    It said Mr Parker.
He was very good looking, his jaw was chiseled, his hair a chocolate brown, his skin tanned and blue eyes. His blue eyes sparkled, the colour was so unnaturally beautiful.
The school had been talking about the new, young teacher but I had no idea I had him for any of my classes and I had no idea that Mrs Bale had left. He smiled, showing his pearly white teeth and got up off his chair.
“I'm Mr Parker,” he said. His voice was husky and mellifluous. “And I'll be teaching you guys for the rest of the year.”
“What happened to Mrs Bale?” One of the students yelled out.
“I am not sure, I have though spoken to her and I know what you guys are up to and everything, so don't try to trick me,” he shook his head.
“How old are you?” a girl in one of the middle rows asked.
    “23,” he replied.
“Isn't he a hunk?” Grace said and I laughed.
    “Hunk?”
    “Yep,” she replied, winking.
“Are you single?” another girl asked. I couldn't help to want to know as well.
“Yes, but it doesn't matter. That's enough questions, let's get on with the lesson. I am going to take the roll.” He started and soon it would be my name.
    “James Haely?”
    “Here.”
    “Logan Hant?”
“Here,” I quickly said, raising my hand. The lesson went way to quickly, I was startled when the bell rang for lunch.
“Remember everyone, we're having a quiz tomorrow so I can see where you all are,” Mr Parker said as he opened the door of the classroom, waiting for all of us to get out. I walked out with Grace and turned once more, looking at Mr Parker. He saw me and smiled kindly.
I smiled back and then walked to lunch.

    P r o l o g u e
It was weird thinking that the person that I sit behind in English could be suicidal for all I knew. Maybe the guy I work with mother is dying. At the end of the day nobody knew anybody. I don't think many people took the time to think about it, the fact that everybody has that one secret that nobody knows, not even their best friend. Some people think nobody knows how they feel, they feel like they are the only person who is in a certain situation.
    I'm one of those people.
Nobody knew how it felt, nobody knew how it felt to watch your own mother cry because she couldn't afford to get you a christmas present or a new top. Nobody knew. Nobody even knew that my mother was struggling to put food on the table and pay the bills. Though, I was grateful for what I had because I knew there were children out there who had it much worse. I was greeted by my mother one sunny day after school and sat on one of the chairs, talking to her about my day.
“How much homework do you have?” My mum asked as she washed the dishes.
“Not much,” I shrugged. “A few questions for history, that's it.”
“Oh, that's okay. You should go do it, Logan before it gets late.” I nodded my head, heading towards my room which was close to the back door. We lived in a small house, with two bedrooms and one bathroom but it was enough.
Dad left mum and I when I was 15, nearly 3 years ago. He left her for a girl only a few years older then me. I
haven't heard from him since, though for my 16th birthday, he got me a car. Though I know how to drive, I have never once used it. I have told my mum countless times that I'll sell it but she doesn't want me to.
I finished my History homework within an hour and went downstairs to keep my mum company. When I went to the kitchen she was leaning against one of the walls, tears filling her eyes and it broke my heart.
    “M-mum?”
“Oh, Logan,” she said wiping her tears. I looked much like my mum, we had the same dark brown, almost black hair and big chocolate brown eyes. The only think I seemed to get from my father was my pasty skin. “I was just-just.”
“Mum, what's in your hand?” I questioned slowly, looking at the white envelope in her hands.
    “N-nothing. It's just from a friend.”
“Mum, tell me,” I demanded. I didn't usually speak to my mother this way, she had raised me better then that but at this point, I just wanted to know what was wrong with my mother.
“It's from the council... they're-they're taking the house away from us.”
    “What, why?!” I exclaimed.
“Sweetie... I am so sorry,” my mum bowed her head. Like she ashamed. Ashamed of what? This was all my dads fault.
“Mum, it isn't your fault,” I told her softly. “I love you,” I murmured. “I couldn't wish for any other person to be my mum. If I had a chose, I would you choose you every single time.”
“I promise everything will be alright in the end,” she told me. “I'll make sure of it.”
“Mum... where are we going to live?” As soon as I asked, I wish I hadn't.
“Well, I am going to call your Aunt Cassidy and see.” Aunt Cassidy wasn't really my aunty, though growing up she was like my second mother, my mums best friend.
This was one of the times that I wanted to be alone so I excused myself, holding back tears. Finally, when I got to my room the tears came pouring out and I sobbed into my pillow. That night, I made a wish.
I wished that somehow I would be able to help my mum.

    {A/N So this is my new story, it is a love story. I know many people have strong beliefs about student/teacher relationships and I understand that but this story isn't about a 50 year old teacher. Mr Parker is young. I hope you guys don't find it boring! I have been having some doubts about UMP but I decided to upload the prologue and see what you all think. Feedback? For those of you who have no idea what this story is about you can go to my website: www.sugarfreakstories.weebly.com and there is a blurb and what the characters look like (most of the characters haven't been introduced)}

    It's finished.
The rough draft of Chinese Lanterns was finished today at 3:44.
I want to put the emphasis on 'rough draft.' It's no where close to being actually done. But it's getting there.
The rough draft is 19 chapters and an epilogue. It's 117 pages and 56,361 words.
The entire book takes place over 3 days. My teacher is calling it a "Masterpiece in the making."
Would you like a little preview? (:
I crossed the sands of the calm beaches, and I encountered the people who were lighting off the lanterns. We didn’t exchange words, I only passed by them. They stood on the beach directly in front of the cottage.
The moon was a bright, wonderful orb in the dark night sky that evening, and I decided I didn’t actually want to go inside. So I moved myself to the water and, wading ankle deep, I watched the people light off the lanterns.
That night was perfect. The wind was gentle, the beach was serene, and the moon was beautiful. As my eyes were locked on the wonderful sphere, I decided to myself that this would be the perfect place for a kiss.
No sooner had the thought entered my mind, I heard the swishing of running footsteps splashing up the beach and through the water, in my direction. With a skipping heartbeat, I whirled my head around.
I know it's not much, again, but at least it's something.
Thank you guys for being awesome. I love you! I'll keep you updated when more stuff starts happening with it (:
    Peace.
(Oh, by the way, there's a chance a girl I used to be friends with might be on 'The Voice' tonight. Her name's Dakota and she's kind of really pretty. She's a good singer (obviously) and used to go to my high school before she started to get homeschooled because she was travelling so much. Keep an eye out for her!)
