Chapter 1
It was a slow say at work.. Well, slower than usual.
Not many people rented movies these days.
I sat quietly behind the counter, reading an old issue of some magazine.
I heard the ding of the bell, and when I looked up I practically fell from my seat.
Standing in the doorway was Tori Noble, my highschool crush.
I quickly pulled off my work vest, shoving the magazing into one of the slots.
Quietly, I slipped into one of the rows of movies, as if I were looking for one.
I watched as she made her way up to the counter, her blonde hair bouncing at her shoulders. She rang the bell for someone to come and assist her.
I grabbed a random movie from the shelf, and stepped up behind her.
I accidently bumped into her, making her drop her purse.
"I'm so sorry." I said, bending down and picking it up for her.
"Oh, no. That's alright. Thank you." She inquired, smiling as she took her purse.
She studied my face for a minute, before letting out a noise of recognition.
"I know you." She stated, the smile growing bigger. I shot her a confused look.
"You're Joey Byrnes, you went to bayview.. right?" She said, still smiling.
"Yeah, yeah. That's me. You're..." I trailed off, not wanting to sound to eagre.
Inside, I was screaming with joy. She knew my name. She remembered me.
"Oh, sorry. Right... I'm Tori Noble. We were in home ec together. You sat behind me."
I nodded, remembering the strawberry scent that lined her hair.
"Right, yeah. I remember you." I said, flashing a smile.
"What do you do now?" She asked. I hesitated for a minute.
"I'm a pharmacist." I lied. I immediately regretted it, and mentally kicked myself.
"Oh, no way. Me too." She said, gently touching my arm. I only nodded.
It went silent for a minute, and Tori leaned against the counter.
She hit the bell a couple times, looking around.
"Hey, you can just take those. I'll pay for it when this jerk gets back." I said, laughing.
"Oh, you don't have to-"
"I insist." Tori smiled, and pulled a piece of paper out of her purse along with a pen.
I watched as she scribbled down something, and then handed it over to me.
"Thank you. Call me sometime." She said, before leaving the store.
I opened up the piece of paper, and saw a phone number scribbled down.
I folded it back up, and shoved it into my pocket.
Fisting the air, I returned to my post behind the counter.
