Young Love
Chapter Five.
"Gage?" I said quietly in his ear. "Gage! Wake up!" I shook his shoulder to get him to wake up.
"Hm?" he said groggily.
"Wake up!" I said, "I think your parents are home. I heard a door close... hard."
"Oh, okay. Uh, uhm, just come downstairs with me. Just be prepared for the little scolding session," he told me.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yes, it'd be better if they knew you were here," he assured me.
"Fine, I'll go with you I suppose."
We both slowly crept downstairs to see where his parents were. They were sitting down in the kitchen, drinking coffee calmly but in silence.
"Well, I need to say hi at some point." He casually walked in to the kitchen and greeted his parents while I stood awkwardly hiding on the stairs. "Hi Mom, Dad. How was the visit?"
"Oh, good. How's your visitor?" they asked.
My heart stopped. I was hoping I could've said hello more casually and this wasn't exactly working out.
"What visitor?" Gage said, trying to avoid the topic.
"You tell me. The car in the driveway...?"
Sh*t. I should've thought about that.
"Oh, that. Well, Tara's parents were having a fit last night and things weren't going over too well with her and her parents," Gage explained calmly.
"So that makes our house 100% available for her to come in?"
"Yes, actually, it does. She needed me to turn to, and I offered to help her out. I WANTED to help her. She needed me. She really did. She's my GIRLFRIEND, and I love her. I care for her, and she means the world to me."
"I'm speechless, Gage. I really am."
They all stood there in silence. I decided to come out of hiding.
"Hi, uhm, I'm sorry to cause trouble but---"
"You should be sorry," his mom spat out.
"I am and---"
"Tara, you don't need to be sorry. My mom should be," he told me then turned to his parents. "You two," he yelled, pointing to both of his parents, "accept us. It's almost been TWO YEARS. I am in love with Tara and neither of you can change that. In fact, you can't change ANYTHING. We seem to have this talk every week, and I'm sick of it!" Gage told them.
"And we're sick of your relationship," his parents harshly said.
"And we're sick of your disapproval! And I'm just sick of you both, PERIOD! Get over yourselves, or I'm getting out of here," Gage threatened.
"You wouldn't," his mom challenged.
"Oh, I would. Watch me."
And with that, he took my hand and stormed out the door.
"GAGE! Now what are we supposed to do!?"
"I think I have an idea."
"Tell me, what's the definition of love?"
