Eric David Parks
I'm Eric. I'm 20 years young
Many times, I've had my heart broken.
But I better myself.
That is all.

To fear to lose is to fear to live,
to sleep but not to dream.
A heartbreak here, a tragedy there,
and with tears your eyes may teem.
    Nothing remains forever afire,
the love of a younger sort.
To fear the loss of one you admire
    will cut your welfare short.
A sullen flame may burn forever,
    a small and novel fact.
But in due time you see the light
    and never do look back.
You live, you lose, it can't be fixed,
    this normal cycle of being.
So do not live in constant fear
for loss we'll all be seeing.

    So there's this girl
    And I'm head over heels.
    No words could describe
    how she makes me feel.
    She kisses with sincerity,
    says she'll love me forever,
that she'll stay by my side
    and not love another.
    But there's another intruder,
    a new burden to bear,
that she is now under ceaseless
    medical care.
    Cancer is no friend,
nor does it leave you many.
It strikes at will and fairs you ill
    and will devour any.
But the beauty here, head on my chest,
    will turn another page.
Her health will spring, the cancer gone,
    so happily we can age.
    I kiss her with sincerity,
tell her I'll love her forever,
and I'll never leave her side,
even if so ceases her endeavor.

A diatribe for you, to show you that we're through, like all the pain and lies and shame; the same thing, never new.
A book I write for us, you sadistic little cuss, as for months I lived without an ounce of necessary trust.
A poem for our bond, of which I'm not so fond, so all I need to do right now is with my heart abscond.
An article of you, and all the things you do, to tear me into many pieces; oh how this day you'll rue.
To you, my love, who has opened my chest and stolen my heart solely for your sadistic pleasure. You murderous deviant, I gave you my world and you set mine ablaze. How, for so long we had love, can you throw it away so blatantly? I may never know. What I will always bear in mind, though, my dear, is on what level you will regret what you have done, for when your other lover uncovers you love another, he, too, will leave you in a flash, lonely, to consider what pain you have caused with your lies and your fronts.
    With the utmost sincerity, love.

Organ of love, fail her not.
Around with her warmth, please stay wrought.
Fall not out; This love's too grand
To allow its fading into hateful hands.
    Diamond eyes and lucid care;
Losing her I do not dare.
    Knowing mind and tender touch;
Losing her would be too much.
A dreary dream, in which she walks,
    Should dissipate wherein she talks.
    A scarring life, and neverending,
Is mended rapidly, without her bending.
This love is so real, I feel inside,
It truly is something from which I'd not hide.
I'd grasp it and hold it and never let go,
For soon after such, this love would grow.

Love is enough: though the world be a-waning,
And the woods have no voice but the voice of complaining,
Though the skies be too dark for dim eyes to discover
The gold-cups and daisies fair blooming thereunder,
Though the hills be held shadows, and the sea a dark wonder,
And this day draw a veil over all deeds passed over,
Yet their hands shall not tremble, their feet shall not falter:
The void shall not weary, the fear shall not alter
These lips and these eyes of the loved and the lover.

See without being seen, shine without being shown.
Be foretold the world's greatest, though let them stay unknown.
Split small rocks, or split the world,
    Let your intellectual power unfurl.
While holding hands with man or more,
Join all beings, forget the war.
BUT let all things go to waste
    Numbing, dull, of terror taste.
Epitomize your cause, do it well.
All of your knowledge, share and tell.

An emerald skylight, a precious sun
    Shed light upon my being.
My god above, please show me love
And keep my eyes from seeing.
This bitter world, a love starved girl
    And phantoms all the same.
Round and round this wind doth swirl
    While dancing with the rain.
A cold, dark night, though causing fright,
Can be lit with divine and priceless light.
A banshee, tormented, dead yet living,
Is cast to woods, life never giving.
I fly with the her, soulbound,
    Driven by the stars,
This love with the sky which I have found
    Will take me endlessly far.

    I need your smile
    That lasts awhile.
    Oh, the darkness inward creeps
    As I never fall asleep.
I need you lying upon me.
    Drifting out among the sea.
    Lightening my load,
    My mind will not implode.
    Though difficult it seems,
    Saved my sanity is deemed.
    Celestial grenadier,
    Bash the royal ball.
    Grown into the walls
    As everybody falls.
    Spirits never, ever sleep
    For memories they always keep
And never leave the haunted site
Of devious nail bound explosive nights.
    Might, ambition, minor rendition
Forever butcher the operas of life.
Death, my mission, a life of suspicion
And nine pale horses of rot I'll revive.

Do we, the youth of the 21st century, we within whom lives a potent desire to love and be loved, not possess the ability to lay claim to the seemingly unattainable right to fall in love? The answer to that has been controversial for a considerably lengthy amount of time. If the world were to ask us, we would shout back at the mass, educated and influential, that we have the same right as any to love. Should we not choose with whom we fall in love without reprimand? I, along with countless others, agree with that privilege. Do not let a soul deter you from feeling love, no matter for whom that love exists.

    If only she could know
    how far I would go
    to see her tonight,
    to love her so.
    If only she could dream
    that of which I dreamt.
    She then would comprehend
    and heed my attempts.
    If only she loved me
    the way I love her.
    All emotions set free;
    All hatred deterred.
    If only she were mine
    my life, I would say,
    was truly fulfilled
    on that glorious day. ♥

    Depression.
    It burns,
    yet ices.
    A blade
    suffices.
    My life:
    a hole.
    Filled solely by
    no soul.
    Depression.
    It lashes,
    it scars.
    My life's
    behind bars.
    It wounds
    so deep.
    My skin
    the blade reaps.
    Depression.
    It's over
    for me.
    Shall never
    be free.
    My blood's
    on you
    because
    I'm through.
    Your fault
    I'm gone.
    You never were
    too fond.
    Depression.
    You win
    the war.
    I take
    no more.
    My wings,
    they fall.
    I'm slaving
    Hell's hall.
    Depression.
    It burns,
    yet ices.
    Your hate
    suffices.

As I impatiently wait for her to arrive,
I choose to allow her to text and drive.
I'm aware of the risks, but my greediness shines.
As I ask where she is, her car crosses those lines.
She jumps a small ditch and straight into trees.
All she wanted was to simply please me.
I got a call that very night.
That call left me lifeless, cold, full of fright.
I sit by her side now, next to her friend.
Time of Your Life proves to be the end.
The teardrops flow like streams down my guitar,
while the others they sit and listen from afar.
The song that was requested has shown me the way.
A song that I'll remember for every living day.
And once I'm gone too, I ask all of you
to sing it for me, as I sang it for you.

    Life.
    Live it to the fullest.
    Love it.
    Respect it.
    Laugh throughout it.
    Share love.
    Life.
    Live it.
    Don't waste it.
Be who you want to be.
Not who others want you to be.
    Life.
    Enjoy it.
All you need from life is love and laughter.
    Family and friends.
    Be happy.
    No hate; all love.

These flawless notes, these golden chords flow through my ears, implanting themselves into my mind, into my appreciative heart. I can relate to the music, can wholly understand it. I believe in it, I absorb it, I live by it. The melodies radiating from those steel-wound strings complete me. Nothing is more soothing than the serenity created by the entirely undersold beauty, the all too often belittled piece of art. Most cannot fathom the freedom my soul is given thanks to the calm, carefully initiated sounds of the instrument that is the base of all great compositions. It is the origin of all music. Day by day, it is killed by the wretched non-believers, shunning the flawless notes, the golden chords, the melodies, the serenity, and the freeing sounds. All should live by the grace that is presented by the masterpiece generating genre. I accept the beauty and live by the artworks that are slowly fading. Soon will be the end of it, and I shall revive it with my acceptance and appreciation. I will utilize to the best of my ability the bits and pieces I know deep in my heart. I will create one masterpiece that will complete the deprived lives of many. All will then accept it for what it truly is: perfection.
