She was 7, in her new dress, with a purple bow in her hair, and new shoes on her feet
It was "Pick A Career Day" at her school, and for her, a nurse was coming to school with her
She was so excited to tell the class about being a nurse. She grabbed her pink backpack, and ran off to the bus stop
When she got to school, the nurse was standing at the front door waiting for her to get off the bus,
The little girl held the nurse's hand, and walked her into school, she had a huge smile on her face, as she walked the nurse to her classroom.
All the students in that first grade class room had moms, dads, aunts and uncles with them, firemen, police men, but she was the only one with a nurse.
The teacher called her name, and she brought the nurse to the front of the class, the class watched as they stood there.
The little girl began, "this is my favorite person, she is a nurse." The first grade class looked confused, the little girl went on, "One time my mommy woke up in the middle of the night, and daddy told me that she didn't feel well, so then Grandma came over to watch me, because daddy had to take mommy to the hospital." The nurse stood there, she had known this story, "That morning, Grandma took me to the hospital, that's when i met this nurse," the little girl said, and pointed to the nurse, "She brought me to a room, where my mommy was on a bed, with wires, she didn't look good," she continued, "I went home a little while after that, with Grandma, i heard her on the phone after we got home, she started crying, so i ran over to her." The nurse's eyes filled with tears, and the parents bowed their heads, a few eyes filled with tears, "Grandma told me, mommy went away, she is with God, in a happy place, where she isn't sick." Everybody in the room was now crying, but the little girl, still looking confident, continued, "I asked my Grandma if she went to heaven, Grandma told me yes, after that we got into the car and drove to the hospital, where i saw daddy and this nurse, i ran over and gave them both a hug, Daddy was crying, but i told him that heaven was not to far, and that he could still love mommy, no matter how far away she was." Everybody clapped, tears filled their eyes.
