Guys this is my sister. She means the world to me and just because she is deaf, Giant Eagle will not employ her. It is not only discriminating, its illegal. This is hurtful to her, to my family, to me, to other deaf teenagers, and the list goes on. Help us fight for her ability to have a job like any teenager. Please share this and help us to get Giant Eagle to see what they are doing is absolutely wrong and hurtful.
My daughter Anna Mei, honor roll student, Key club, volleyball team and track team member at Pine Richland High School, has been told by Gibsonia Giant Eagle's hiring manager Jerry that they can't hire her as a bagger because she's Deaf and "customers might get mad if they tried to talk to her and she couldn't answer". After weeks of getting the run around, we talked to the Store Manager Ray this past Monday who told us he was aware of the situation and didn't think they could hire her because "its such a communicative position". He assured me that he'd refer this to the HR department and somebody would call. Wednesday, when we hadn't heard from anybody I left a message for Rick in HR but got no response. Left another one today and still nothing.
I'm asking you to support my daughter and other people who want to work, are capable of working and should be allowed all the rights guaranteed them under the law.
I'm asking all of you to please share this and tag us and Giant Eagle in it. If you have a twitter account please let them know how you feel at @gianteagle. Life can be tough enough sometimes without people like this using thier power and authority in such a negative way. We as parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, neighbors, family, friends and people-with-an-ounce-of-common-sense need to stand up and insist Giant Eagle does the right thing.
