    Until I met you.
    Chapter Ten:
"Issac, is that a good idea?" Izzy asked me, smiling. I ran up and down the beach, my legs not hurting at all. "I'm fine." I said, jumping around. It felt nice to be able to run around, feeling no pain at all. "Issac, you're crazy." Se exclaimed, laughing.
"Issac." She looked into my eyes, and it suddenly became dark, and there were flashing lights, and it became hard to breathe. "Izzy?" She pointed toward the house, and whispered. "Go.." I looked at the house, then back at her, but she was gone. I ran to the house, and it becam eeven harder to breathe.
As I came closer to the house, the scene became different, but all too familiar. I saw Nina, my parents being dragged out stretchers, and a yyoung version of me, crying on the porch. "How could you?" The younger version of me looked into my eyes. "You should have saved them!" I looked around, and grabbed my chest. "S-she asked me to stay hidden.." he walked toward me and yelled at the top of his lungs, and I fell to the ground, tears filling my eyes. "Stop it!" I kicked my legs and closed my eyes as much as I could, before opening them again.
Smoke everywhere. "Hello?" I ran into the kitchen, noticing a funny smell, and hearing Melanie laughing with Damen. "You guys... you're burning down the kitchen!" I ran in and turned off the oven, opening it. Melanie came in, her eyes red. "Aw crap...my cookies." I threw the pan onto the floor. "Your cookies? What about the fu**ing house?" She flinched a bit. "I'm sorry Issac, I was just really hungry."
Damen came in the kitchen, and laughed. "Dude, calm down. It's not on fire." I rolled my eyes, and John came down. "What is going on......Who is smoking weed in my house?" He screamed. I looked at Melanie, and started picking up the burned cookies off the floor. "You are so unbelieveable." I said to her. "What? You never had fun in your life?"
I couldn't believe this. Fun? Burning down the house, this was fun to her? "If you need to trick yor mind into having fun, then it's not very fun, is it?" I said, throwing the last bit of burned cookies into the trash can. "Issac, I didn't mean to..." I put up m hand. "Save it." John looked at her. "You need to go Damen." I nodded. "That would be best."
Melanie crossed her arms, looking angry at me. "So what, we smoked a little. The cookies burned, big freaking deal." I laughed. "I'm glad I never asked you to be my stupid girlfriend." I spat at her, opening the window to air out the kitchen, and walked back up to my room.
As soon as I hit my head on the pillow I thought of my dream. Could I have saved my family? I probably could have, probably messe that up just like everythihng else.
The next few days went by slowly, as I just sat in my room and only left to use the bathroom. Grace brought me food, and John came to talk to me a few times. Melanie knocked on my door, trying to get me to talk to her, but I couldn't. I wasn't mad at her for amoking, I've done it too. I was mad at her ignorance about cooking. Not thinking about the house burning down.
On the fourth day, I felt the worst. I had been in the room, watching out the window, ignoring everyone. "Issac..." I heard John say, cracking the door a bit. "Issac, you feeling any better?" I pulled the blanket over my head, and groaned. "Issac, look at yourself, you're depressed. I let out a bitter laugh. "Depressed." I mocked his tone.
He opened my closet, and the mirror on the door faced me, and I looked at myself. My eyes were cloudy. Bags and ark circles under them. My hair was a mess and I had a bit of stubble coming in and I looked horrible. Maybe I am depressed. "We're worried." I shook my head. "I'm fine." I protested.
"Melanie is worried too." I scoffed. " I don't care." He sighed, standing up and going through my closet, throwing clothes at me. "Get dressed, shave your face, we're going out." I wanted to protest, but then I thought of Nina, how dissapointed she would be, and I didn't want to mess yet another thing up, so I walked into the bathroom, turning on the hot water, and began to shave my face.
After I was finished, you could barely tell I was locked in my room for almost a whole week, other than the fact that my face was pale, and it looks like I haven't slept, which honestly, I haven't. I walked into the living room where Grace hugged me. "You look better." She said, and I forced a weak smile on my face, and locked eyes with Melanie from behind my back, I was not going to let the past bother me anymore. "Hey." She said softly, and I nodded at her, making her frown.
"You're lucky you get anything." John said, grabbing my arm and we walked out, Grace sitting next to Melanie on the couch. "Let's have fun." I simply said, getting into the car.

    Until I met you.
    Chapter Nine:
It must not have hung up because I heard her talking to Damen.
"No, I was just calling Issac, oh come on he isn't that bad, dont give me that face." What face? I could punch him right across his. "He's sweet." I her=ard her say, and heard Damen's voice speak up. "He's a fool." She laughed, and it felt like my heart was going to explode, I looked over at Izzy who was staring at the art on the wall, and I listened to about another minute before hanging up.
I checked the texts, John, Mel, and oh wait, more from Mel.
Mostly, they had just asked where I was, what I was doing and to call them, atleast the ones from Mel, did. John had explained something that happened to then in a cab. I set down my phone, looking a Isobelle, and smiled as she looked back. "So, you live here with a girlfriend?" I shook my head.
"My friend, his wife, and....well, his wifes friend." I didn't lie, I certainly didn't want to be her friend after listening to her and Damen's voices, laughing at me on a stupid voice mail. She just nodded, and looked at me. "Well, I like it." I st next to her on the couch she was on, turning on the tv, and looking down at my plain white cast.
"Don't you have work?" I asked her, as she yawned, but she shook her head. "Well, why not?" She sighed, and sat to face me.
"My grandfather wants me to live my life, told me to find an easier job, soemthing that young adults do, I'm only 18 there isn't much anywhere else I could work besides a low class, diner or a grocery store or.." I stopped her.
"Or you could do something you love still." She cocked her head to the side, as if asking me how. "Well, you could do a lot, you like saving lives right? You could always apply to teach kids how to swim, or be a lifeguard, or work down at the nurse station on the beach for injuries." She nodded, smiling a bit.
"Thank you for trying to make me feel better..." I smiled, and watched her face begin to tighten as she smiled back. I wanted to lean in and kiss her, I didn't know her for very long, bt people feel like kissing other people all of the time.
And just as I thought I would do it, the door opened and Mel walked in, wirh Damen by her side.
"I know, he was so stupid looking when he fell down the-" She stopped talking as she stared into my eyes, turning pink. "Issac...you're home." I nodded, looking down at Isobelle, who started to look more uncomfortale. "Wait, what happened?" She yelled.
Damen just laughed as she ran up to me. "Issac!" I shrugged.
"An accident." She just looked at me, her eyes softening, and I could feel the sorrow, the pity through her gaze.
"When did this happen?" I sighed, standing up, limping toward Izzy. "And who is this?" I shook my head, smiling at Izzy.
"A friend." I said, taking her wrist lightly, and heading toward the porch. "And it happened the night of the wedding, but I guess I'm just a fool." I mocked Damen's voice from the voice mail. "My bad."
I explained who Melanie was to Izzy, and she litened, not pretended to listen, she actually listened the whole entire time. "She is stupid to take him over you." I shrugged, maybe she wasn't.
"My grandfather should have been here by now." Izzy said, leaning against the front door. I shrugged. "I could call you a cab?" She smiled at me. "That's sweet, but I have no money." I heard John's voice inside, instantly calling out my name. "I can get you a ride."
John came up to me, patting me on my good shoulder and laughing lightly. "I leave you alone for what, a day and you get hurt, what are we going to do with him?" He turned toward Grace, who had smiled back.
"We could always get him leash, tie him up to the porch." I smiled as they joked, still not noticing Izzy behind me, until she let out a small sneeze. "Aweh, John. He brought home a friend." She said, giggling.
"Grace, now now, he is growing up, but we musn't humiliate him. He is cute though, isn't he?" He pinched my cheeks, and I could hear Izzy laugh behind me, and I could also feel my cheeks getting red.
"Can we bring her home?" I looked at John with pleading eyes, and he sighed. "Have the car back by 10." I looked down at my arm and back at him. "I can't drive, John." He groaned. "FIIIIINEEEEEE." He smiled, poking me with his elbow.
We got into the car, and it was extremely silent, Grace sat in passenger, and Izzy and I back seat, and she watched out the window. I watched her eyes as they grazed the sky, looking at the moon as it started to rise, she smiled. I couldn't like her this quickly, there is no way.
She unbuckled her seat, as we pulled up in front of an apartment building. "I'll walk you to your door." I said, getting up, and wincing as my feet touched the ground, my legs still hurting. "It's my pleasure." I reassured her, as she looked at the car, and then my legs.
"Well, thank you." She said, as we stood in front of a big wooden door. I looked down at her, she only came up to about my chin. "I uhm...here." She slid a piece of paper into my pocket, and then stared into my eyes. "Issac?" I nodded, and looked back into hers.
She bit her lip and smiled, turning toward the door. "I'll uh, see you around." She disappeared into the big wooden door, and I turned toward the car, confused. What was that?
Later that night, Melanie had been with Damen on the couch, laying her head on his chest, as it raised, and fell at a slow rate as he slept, she looked at me, pity still filling her eyes. I shrugged it off, walking to my room, and checked my pocket, remembering Izzy slid something inside it.
It was her number. When did she even have time to write that down? Weird. I groaned as I lay back in bed, my legs aching, and my chest and throat sore. I rubbed my temples, and sighed loudy. How could any of this happen? Melanie being in the living room with Damen, guy whom she had left the reception for, while she was on a date with me.
And Izzy, the doctor I had only met the night of that happpening. I looked out at the stars through my window. Maybe I just needed to sleep on it. I closed my eyes, not too long after, falling asleep.

    Until I met you.
    Chapter Eight:
Dr. Izzy, is what I had started to call her. I changed my doctor, to a male doctor, mainly because I wasn't comfortable with her having to help me to the bathroom, and all of that doctor stuff. Also? I wanted to get to know her, and I know that doctors and their patients cannot have relationships, not even really friendships.
She still checked up on me though, every hour she came to my room, asking how I was doing. She also ate lunch the same time I did, came to my room, and we would talk. "Wow, that is pretty facinating." I said to her, after listening to her explain why she had become a doctor. "So you're like extremely smart then?"
She shrugged. "I guess in society terms, I am." She smiled. "My father is a farmer, and my mom is a librarian. I wanted to make them proud of me, because my eldest brother left home to go to Africa to be a doctor there, and I looked up to him for that."
I looked at the side of her face, and smiled. "Izzy, you're 19, you're a doctor, and you graduated Highschool at 16!" I saw her face turn slightly pink. "As far as I am concerned, you're the smartest person on earth." I wasn't lying, I had never met someone so young, and sucessful.
"Issac, it's nothing really, and I a barely a doctor. I'm still in practice, but since my grandfather works here, I get to practice on real patients, obviously not serious cases, like I can't operate or prescribe anything, I might as well be a nurse." She stood up, looking over at the clock. "I have to go, dinner is over, I'll visit in a while." She walkd out.
"Moooom." I groaned as she combed my hair to the side. "Mom it's not that big a deal." She said to me, sitting me up. "I just have to show George." She smiled, taking my picture, making me smile. I shook my head. "Can I ask you something?" I asked her.
She laughed saying the same thing I said to her every time she asked that question, "You already have, but you may ask another." I smiled.
"Why didn't he come with you?" I said, biting the inside of my lip a bit, and she sighed.
"Issac, you know how he is, doesn't like to get out much. Don't take it to heart, hunny." She said, smoothing out my hair. "He does love you, you know that right? He also misses you." I didn't believe her.
"He didn't even say goodbye to me, he nodded, as I walked toward the door." I could feel y heart speed up, and the monitor started to pick it up. I let out a sigh, trying to calm myself down. "I'm going home tomorrow, you can go back home."
"Issac!" She shook her head. "I am not leaving you here." I smiled, softly. "George probably misses you, and you know how he gets." She nodded, agreeing.
"I'll go." She said, smiling. "On one condition." I scratched the back of my neck. "I call John and Grace, and tell them about what happened."
"Fine." I groaned, agreeing after three minutes. She left the room to call, and the doctor came in, doctor Warner. "How is everything?" He asked, and I just nodded.
"Everythign is yes? Come on Issac, use words, I have some good news." I smiled, looking at him, expecting him to say something, but then he gave me the same stare.
"I'm great!" I said, still smiling, "I can walk, I can drink on my own, my voice is still hoarse, but It's getting better, The pain medicine is working great." I said, still kind of waiting for an answer.
"Well, the news is, that you can come home," He trailed off, looking at the papers he held in his hand. "But the bad news is that it has to be tonight." I looked up at him.
"Uhm, what's bad about that?" he chuckled silently. "I mean, I would love to go home right about now, I love on the beach, the fresh air, the sound of waves." He nodded, as if agreeing it was good for me.
"I suppose that isn't bad news." He walked out, saying "I'll get your paperwork ready, and we will find a nurse to come and check up on you every once in a while."
My mom walked in and smiled. "Grace is insisting that John and her come home." I bring my right hand to ny head, to hold it up. "They aren't haveing very much fun anyways, John said." Of course they weren't, they were not the type of people to be without friends.
Izzy came to see me before I left, and wheeled me out to the car, my mother couldn't take me home, so they are having a doctor do it, that doctor happened to be Isobelle, and her grandfather, the man who ran the hispital.
"Thank you sir, you know for bringing me home." He nodded at me, looking into the rear view, studying my face a second before looking back on the road. "And, you Isobelle, thanks for coming for the ride."
The old man driving, laughed a bit, "She insisted on coming." I saw her lightly smack his neg, and he smiled wide. "You're handsome, so I suppose I can see why she would insist." I bit my lip, and saw the side of her cheek getting red.
We pulled up to the house, and Izzy helped me out. "I can walk." I said, stepping out of the wheel chair, and starting toward the door. "Let me help you.." She grabbed my arm, and helped me up to the door, and we heard an engine, and then, her grandfather was gone. "AGAIN?!" She yelled into the sky.
Again? What? "He does this..." I looked at her confused. "Abandons you?" She shook her head. "He left me at a store once."
"Grandpa....you need help! Come back here and get me..." She was silent, rolling her eyes as she listened, and then her eyess widened, as she hung up. "So...He's coming to get me tonight..." I looked at her confused. "He wants us to be...friends." She said, an embarrassed look on her face.
"Well, I would love to be friends.." I said, opening my door, and walking in. "Come on in." I insisted, making sure she followed me. "It's nice." She said, awkwardly looking around.
My phone was smashed, but still turned on. I had seven missed calls, 12 texts, and three voice mail messages. I decided to check on the voice mails first, tleling Izzy to sit.
"Issac, it's Mel, I came home and you were gone...I waited up, where are you?" I sighed, deleting it, and listening to the next one, also Melanie. "Hey, it's Mel again. Will you call me? I have to talk to you.." I deleted it, before listening to the rest. "Issac.." Mel's voice sounded out of breath, and I instantly felt worried. "Issac, I am staying at Damen's. If you come by today, give me a text. I miss you." I coud hear it go on, but she wasn't close to the phone anymore.

    Until I met you.
    Chapter Seven:
"Have a safe trip." I smile as I close the limo door, and watch as John and Grace drive away. I look at the rice covered pavement and sigh, walking to my car. "Wait up!" I heard Melanie yell, and look back at her, walking up to me. "What?" She looked confused. "Are you okay Issac?" I shrugged. "Just tired." I turned toward the car again, and heard her let out an aggrivated sigh. "Issac." I turn back, looking at her.
"Is it because I didn't dance with you?" I open the car door and sit in the seat. "Mel, just please go and have a fun night okay?" She smiled, hugging me. "Thank you!" She ran off, and went up to Damen.
The drive home, was so silent, and boring. Why would Melanie go home with Damen the first night of meeting him? It really didn't seem like her, at all. Maybe she is that type of girl, and she just doesn't think of me the way I think of her. I have no idea.
The light in front of me turned green, and I went forward, but I guess that the guy in the other lane didn't care that hir turned red, because he slammed into the front of my car.
The loud crash created an annoying, ringing sound in my ears, and I could feel pressure on my arm, but I couldn't open my eyes, I'm not sure I wanted to. I heard someone screaming, and could just barely make out what they were saying "Sir! Are you okay?! I'm calling the ambulance, please, just hang on!"
I soon heard sirens, and saw flashing lights, and started to cry. I couldn't die, I just couldn't. I thought back to the night I was young, but not about the bad things that happeed, I thought about Nina, my mother. The woman who took me in and made sure I grew up to be a promising young man, I wasn't her biological son, but she treated me just as well as one.
I kept nodding in and out of consciousness. I went from the car, and opened my eyes, as I was being rolled on a hospital bed, and into the ambulance, I couldn't move, nor could I keep my eyyes open long enough, and they shut.
I woke a few more timmes, getting out of the ambulance, and into a room, and then being hooked to machines. "Sir?" I heard a woman say, So I looked around, to find a young, blonde doctor looking at me, and I nod. "Sir, do you know where you are?" I open my mouth, "Hospital." But it was low and hoarse. "Do you know why?" I nod. "Accident." She scribbled something down on the papers on the clip board in her hands.
"Issac, is it? Issac what?" I sighed, trying to sit up, but failing. "Johnson." She wrote that down on the paper, I assume. "Okay, issac, is there anyone you'd like us to call?" I thought for a minute. John and Grace were on their Honeymoon, Melanie was with Damen, and my mother was two whole states away.
"No, I guess not." She sighed, standing up from the chair, taking down my insurace information, and walking out of the room. I looked around, noticing my clothes in a bag on a chair, bloody clothes. What happened to me? And why can't I sit up? I closed my eyes, and fell asleep.
I heard my names a few times, but I didn't want to talk to anyone, so I kept my eyes closed, until I heard the doctor say my name again, sighing. "Issac, I know you're awake. There is someone here for you." I open one eye, and look at the doctor. "Who?" I so badly hoped it was Melanie.
"Issac!" I heard my mom crying. I glared at the doctor, and then looked at my mom. my voice cracking as I spoke. "You didn't have to come." She placed her hand on my shoulder. "Don't be crazy, you're lucky I don't yell at you for not having them call me in the first place!"
She wasn't happy, but she sat beside me. "Were you drinking?" I shake my head, my throat hurting too much from talking, even those few words. "The doctor called, saying that You were in an accident, and that you didn't want to contact anyone, but it was urgent." I sigh. "Mom.." She held up her hand.
"Issac, look at yourself." I shook my head, I really didn't want to see myself. "I can't" Is all I could manage to get out, I hurt all over, and I knew I looked horrendous. I didn't want to see. "Want me to call John?" I shook my head. He was on his honeymoon, I didn't want to bother him.
I fell back asleep, and for the first time in a long time, I dreamt of my birthparents, from befoore they were killed.
"Issac, you know you can't do that." My father said laughing, and shaking his head as I hold a piece of bologna over my mom's face and drop it onto her cheek. "She just won't wake up Daddy!" I Jump around as he rips off the sliced meat stuck to her face. "Issac, son." I look over at him, and smile.
"What Daddy?" He drops it back onto her face, and laughs, but she quickly jolts up and looks at him, his face stunned, jaw wide, not susre what to do. "Daddy! How dare you!" I grin, and keep plaing with my toy airplane. "He started it." My mom laughed, throwing the slice of bologna at him, and it sticks to his face.
I wake up to my doctor changing my gauze on my head. "Goodmorning." She looks down at me, frowning a bit. "Yourn mother, went to get some food." I nod, and point to my glass of water, and she hands holds it up to my lips, and I sip from the straw. I let out a low, barely noticable "That's good."
I notice that I can't move my body still, and look at the doctor, my voice cracking. "Why can 't I move?" She lets out a long sigh, and lookss around the room, I could tell she barely wanted to say anything about it to me just yet, but since she is a doctor, she knows she has to.
"Well, Issac. I think I should wait to tell you until your mom is here." I sigh and roll my eyes, feeling like I am a child. She obviously already knew what was wrong with me, so why did I have to wait?
She probably noticed at how annoyed I was, because she closed the door and sat next to me. "I'll tell you." I look at her, and stare into her eyes as she talks. "The other driver hit your car, you are extremelyy lucky to be alove, you know. Your left arm was impailed, it's broken, and in a cast. You can't move because your chest and legs are numb, because they are badly cut and we gave you numbing medication." She took a deep breath.
"Also, your face is bruised, a few cuts, and you have quite a few stitches on your arm, legs, and side. " I nod, tears in my eyes. "But there is good news." I shake my head, sure there wasn't anything good about all of this. "You get to go home tomorrow." I furrow my eyebrows, and she laughs lightly. "We'll be giving you pain meds, and a nurse will visit you. Would you like to try and walk?" I shake my hed. If I could walk, I would feel much better.
"I'll have to hold onto you, until your legs aren't numb." I nod, not caring, I just want to get up and walk. "I got you." She grabbed my arm, and held me up, and as I tried to take a step, I could feel my toes, and I smiled, speaking even though it hurt to talk. "I thought I was paralyzed." She shook her head. "Like I said, you are extremely lucky."
It's funny to think that me, getting in a car accident would end up with me being lucky. But my doctor defintely made me feel lucky. She was short, kinda like Melanie. But she was so different. She had short curly blonde hair, big blue eyes, and I could tell she had a nose ring, but the must take it out for work. She had freckles on her nose, and cheeks, dimples, and she had, what i would call, perfect lips.
When I first saw Melanie, I thought to myself, she was gorgeous, different, and interesting, and then when we became best friends, I was still nervous, but then when the same thing that happened to me, happened to her, I felt close to her, and I coforted her. Now, thinking of her, I am kind of glad I didn't ask her to be my girlfriend. I am starting to feel like a brother to her, and I think I may be okay with that.
"Issac, you're doing it! You're walking!" I smiled as I looked down at my feet, wincing a bit because I could feel the pain in my legs. I looked a my doctor's nama tag, and smiled, looking at her, speaking. "Thank you Isobelle." She blushed a bit, and laughed. "It's doctor Palm." I shook m head. "I like Isobelle better." She let go of me, and stood next to me. "Fine, call me Izzy."

    Until I met you.
    Chapter Six:
Grace came down the isle, slowly I could see the tears on her cheeks, as she looked on John's huge smile, tear filled eyes and shaking hands. I place my hand on his shoulder and look over at Melanie, as she stares at Grace, with a huge smile on her face. I could tell she was happy for her, and I could aso tell that she was a bit nervous. Why was she nervous? She rubed her hands up and dow her arms, and stood with her legs close together.
They said "I do." Kissed, and now we're driving our way to the reception at a bar, at the beach, they would leave for their honeymoon in Hawaii tonight, and would be gone for a week. I followed the limo, that John and Grace were in, with Melanie in the passenger seat, and John's two cousins, Sarah, and Clark in the back.
The ride was pretty quiet, besides Sarah, and Clark talking softly to eachother, about how happy they are for John, and Melanie watched the road as we drove. I could tapped m fingers on the steering wheel as I wait for the light to turn green.
At the reception, where Grace's mom had set the entire place up, Grace and John had theiir own table in the front of the room, facing all of the other tables. I was at the table a little off to the side of them, with Melanie, Grace's sister Joan, John's brother Wyatt, and Sarah and Clark. I may or may not have asked Grace's mother to switch her seat to be next to mine.
I smiled as children danced on the dance floor, and ran around, failing their arms. "Do you want a drink?" Melanie asked me, takiong me out of the awkward silence at the table. I smiled, and stood up, "I'll get us some drinks, remember, you're my date and I don't want you to be getting me anything." Her face turned pink, and I walked to the bar.
I wasn't old enough to get any alcohol, so got us some Soda. I brought it back to the table, but dropped one of the drinks on the floor. Another one of John's friends, that used to go to school with us, Damen, was in my seat, talking with Melanie. She was laughing, and twirling her hair in her fingers. Did she like this guy? She never twirled her hair around me.
I hand her her drink, "I'm gonna go check up with the bride and groom, you okay?" I look from her, to Damen. "Yes, thank you!" She said, smiling."
I knew John could tell I was irritated, just fro the way he shook his head and laughed as I approached his table. "Can I stral the groom for a minute?" Grace smiled, kissing him on the cheek. "I guess this will be the last time for a week for you two to really talk so, of course!" John walked next to me, to the front doors, and onto the sand outside.
"I am not sure I like this situation." John said, smiling. I nodded. "I know right." We looked in at them, and I turned my head as I saw her kiss his cheek, as they began to dance. "Must be a slow song..." John muttered, looking from me to the Table where Grace sat. "Go ahead, man. It's your reception. Go have your first dance." He patted my shoulder, and walked through the doors. "Should I trip Damen?" I laugh lightly, and think about it for a second, until I notice how much fun Melanie is having. "No."
I watched John walk up to Grace, and hold out his hand and her take it. I smiled as they walked to the middle of the dance floor, and started to slowly dance, I took a picture of them as they smiled into eachothers eyes, and sent it to John's phone, and also to my Mom. Nina's phone. "Stop being so cute." I wrote.
I didn't go back in, until I saw John waving me in, to gather around with all of the single men, to catch that thing that the bride wears around her thigh, and to be honest I didn't even want to know what It was called. "ONE....TWO...THREE!" I shook my head as all of the guys reached up high for it, jumping, I raised my hand to pretend that I wanted to catch it.
I was too busy thinking about Damen and Melanie to notice why everyone was staring at me. "What?" I asked confused, and then felt somehting silky in my hand. I caught it, well, I'll be damned. "Go Issac!" Yelled John, I forced a laugh, because I knew what happened when I cought this, I would have to pull this thing onto another girl's thigh.
Grace threw her boquet into the air, with a big smile on her face, and giggling. Melanie jumped up, smiling, and reaching her hand up, and caught it, which made me blush. "Can the two who caught the items go to the center of the floor, and everyone else, give them some room.
By the time I got to the center, Melanie was sitting in the chair, and pressing her lips together nervously. "Hey." She said, looking up at me, I only nodded. The lights got low, and I knelt down on my knees, as a spotlight was put on us, she lifted her leg, and I started to hear people cheering.
Melanie looked extremely uncomfortable, so I wanted to get it over with quickly. I slid off her shoe, and up her calf slowly, and then I could hear the guys in the room yelling loudly. "Woooo!!!!" I pushed it past her knee, and up a little higher, up to her thigh.
The lights turned on, and she stood, smiling, and bowed. I smiled down at her, but she didn't notice, she was looking into the crowd. This was not a good sign, I can't ask her now, it's a bad idea, and as much as I want to, It's not the time nor the place. I would wait until we drove home.
Everyone gathered to get cake, and I was the third person, so I sat down at the table, and Mel, soon came to the table too, sighing. "You okay?" She nodded. "Just tired, I suppose." I smile slightly, watching her pick her fork at her piece of cake. "Well, would you like to go home?" She looked over at me, her eyes sparkling, and her curls b oucing as she turned her head, and I could feel the question popping out of my mouth, and then she spoke.
"Damen invited me to his house."
I honestly don;t think any words have hurrt so bad, ever.

    Until I met you.
    Chapter Four:
I woke up confused to see light pink walls, and me covered in a floral blanket, and instantly remembering that I slept at Melanies house last night. Before you get ahead of yourselves, let me explain.
So We've been hanging out for like 2 weeks everyday now, and it was always the same thing, going to the beach, walking down a path we found by accident, and I remember the day perfectly.
We were walking and we saw some people trying to 'get it on' in the sand, so we decided to cut through the boulders. We came to a cave, It wasn't dark and scary likke you'd think it was actually illuminating, luring us in. Our faces must have just about fallen off. our jaws almost hitting the ground.
Walking in farther, I kept Melanie close, not wanting her to get hurt by any possible danger, which seemed to me impossible in this place. "Wow, look." She pointed at the water reflecting off the speckling walls of the cave. I walked closer, Melanie not too far behind. "Mel, be careful." I felt her there but her mind was somewhere else.
The sounds of trickeling water was the only thing you could hear in that cave. It was absolutely soothing. "Issac..." I snapped my head back to look at her, and saw that she had gotten farther than I had. "You're going to pee yourself when you see this." I slowly made my way to her.
The view was mirraculous. Shimmering water, the small amount of water streaming dow the side of the cave and into, what I could only assume was a swimming hole. The sun was shining in, and some waves coming in from the ocean just outside the other end of the cave.
"This is the single most amazing place I have literally ever seen." I looked over at her glimmering eyes as her face hit up. The lighting was extremely flattering to her, every lighting was.
We've been coming here ever since. After going to our swcret place, we would go to the diner down the road, and eat dinner. And then we would go back to one of our houses to watch a movie before we said our goodbyes for the night.
Yesterday was different. Yesterday was amazing, frightening, and confusing all together. It started off as just a regular day, until she didn't show up after leaving to grab her swim suit from her house. It was the first day we would swim in our special swimming hole.
My phone rang. "Mel?" She was sobbing, I couldn't make out a thing she was saying. "Issac....Please come." I instantly jumpred from my seat running to her house. I ran, watching as I pass every house, which is a complete blu until I freeze up in front of Melanie's house.
Sirens, The flashing lights, the stretchers going into the house. "No." I ran through the crowd and passed the cops, detectives and straight into the house. Instant flash back. "Issac, I need you to remember what happened for me buddy, okay? I know it's hard, but we need to keep you safe." I remember Nina calming me as the detectives continued asking me questions.
"Issac?!" I snapped out of it, instantly running onto the stairs, holding Melanie as close to me as I could, I could feel te shoulder of my shirt getting cold and wet, and I rubbed her back, and holding her head.
'Issac, I know you miss them." I hugged Nina, she was holding me closely, petting my hair. I couldn't help but scream at night, I still do from time to time.
"Issac....they're dead." I pulled away looking her in he blood-shot eyes. "Who?" She chocked back the ongoing sobbing she would have for the rest of her life. "My parents." I held her close, knowing exactly what she was feeling right now. This would never leave her.
"Melanie...I cannot begin to explain how sorry I am..." She hugged me. "I saw him you know....He came in my room first." I shook my head, not believing what I was hearing. It was impossible that it was the same guy, right? Maybe I am just over thinking this.
"I hid under my bed, he kept yelling that he was sorry for what he was going to do. He got caught, he's in the car." I looked over, sighing that it wasn't the same man. "They say that he was an ex employyee of my Dad's company."
I just held her close. "Melanie Cowwell. We're going to need you to come down to the station and give your witness report. She held onto me tightly. "Issac, please don;t leave my side." I held her close, "I wont let you be alone, ever again."
"You did an amazing job giving the details Issac, how about we go and get you some icecream?" I smiled at Nina, she seemed to be a really nice lady. "I don't want to be left alone forever." She held onto my hand, walking to her car. "I won't let you be alone, ever again."
After going to the station, and listening to Melanie sob and stutter for an hour as these detectives tried their best to be nice, while asking questions. "And who is this with you?" I spoke up, knowing that Melanie didn't want to talk anymore. "Uh, Issac. Issac Frans." The detective on the right sipped from his coffee. "Where you from?" I told him and he held his hand out and onto my shoulder. "I was there." I furrowed my eyebrows, confused.
Oh? Oh....OH, was he? I suppose he looked like he was old enough to have been there, he did have greying hair after all. "I looked down at Melanie, and back up to him as he spoke. "It must be hard to be around all of this." Melanie looked up at me, her eyes swollen and red, tears on her cheeks. "What does he mean?" Oh boy. Now I had to explain it to her, and while she's going through all of this. I simply nodded at the man, and put my arm around melanie, and walking out of the door with her.
She looked up at me, still waiting for an answer. "Lets discuss this over ice-cream, deal?" She nodded. We ate ice-cream, and I explained everything, her face as less puffy and red, the ice-cream and my story had helped. She was understnding in why I hadn't just told her in the first place. She told me how she felt a little better, knowing she had someone to understand what she was going through.
And then I walked her home.
"Issac, I'm scared." I scratched the back of my neck, sighing. I was nervous for what i was about to say. "I could, uh you know. stay the night. Only if you wouldn't mind, to uh, be there for you and stuff." Asmile grew across her face for the first time since I had seen her leave for her bathingsuit this morning. "I would love that."
Long story short, she had a nightmare, so I I went to check up on her. "Melanie, are you okay?" I peek my head into the door. I could see her face in the little luminant glow coming on from the street lights. She looked like she had seen a ghost. "Issac, I don't want to sound creepy but.." She scooted toward the wall on her bed opening the covers. "Could you?" I nodded.
I could barely fall asleep, I thought about my birth parents. "Sweetie, we love you so much, you don't have to be afraid." I held my stuffed dinosaur close. "But mommy, I'm scared." I walked up to the pre-school doors, other kids walking in willingly. She bent down hugging me. "Issac, you're so brave, you'll get through it." Then I thought back to the night they would be gone forever, remembering how much I tried myself I could get through anything, but I was too young, I couldn't do this, no matter how strong I was. Eventually, I had fallen asleep.
And that's how we got here, I woke to the smell of bacon. Mmmmm bacon. I walked into the kitchen, my nose filling with multiple fragrances. "You looked so peacefull, didn't want to wake you." She held up a plate for me. "Thanks." I groggily walked over into the seat she set the plate in front of, in my blue pajama pants, and white tanktop, my hair looking a mess. "Oh and Issac? Please call me Mel."

    Until I met you.
    Chapter Three:
"Strawberry smoothie for my friend here, he's had a rough day." John was at the counter trying to set me up. I wasn't fully against it. We were all sitting around at this point, around a pile of sticks in the middle of a circle of rocks in the sand, waiting for the fire to start. The moon looked so gorgeous glimmering it's reflection of the low tide of the ocean. "I'll bring it over when I'm done here okay?" My palms started to get warm, and sweaty. My leg starting shaking. "John I don't know about this." He sat next to me, putting his arm around me. "You'll be fine, you got game bro." I laughed. "Game? What is this? Middle school?" He nodded. "It might as well be, you're the new kid, and you're sitting at the cool table, it's a new start." I shook my head at his nonsense. It's not a cool kid table, it's a beach. I went with it though. I looked down at my hands, fiddling with my fingers. I hadn't felt this nervous since my first date ever. "Get ahold of yourself." I said to myself, not a second after this, a smoothie cup was in my face. "Talking to yourself eh? Are you some sort of crazy maniac on the loose?" I smiled, looking over at her smooth face, gorgeous green eyes, and light brown hair, with green tips. Wow.
"Well, are you a maniac?" I shook my head. No, but you could make me go crazy any day I thought. "Issac." I extended my hand. "Melanie." We shook hands and I felt a jolt of excitement through my fingertips. "Melanie, would you like to take him on a walk?" I looked over at John, smug look on his face. "I'm not a dog." She stood up, pointing to the shore line. "I don't mind at all." I stood up, looking at her body. As we continued, I looked every inch of her over. She had one side of her lip pierced with a stud, a nose ring, and her ears had tunnels in them. She was wearing a Bring me the horizon t shirt, and blue skinny jeans. She was gorgeous. "So Issac. What brings you to California?" I waved back at John, who I could hear laughing at me. "John's getting married, and I decided I wanted to live out here." Things were quiet for a moment, before we stopped, and she pulled me dowen onto the sand. "Woah Uhm.." She giggled. "Look at the stars you pervert." I couldn't help but smile.
We instantly connected, and our pasts were pouring out of us like soup. "Wow, I can't believe you had to walk through the store with a thong on your head." She rolled around laughing. "It was such a rebel moment." I looked at her, sitting up. "So what about your mom and dad?" I didn't want to ask at first, because I know how I would feel about talking about it. "Well, Normal family I guess. Rich parents, not much time for me when I was growing up. They didn't approve of my friends, or my clothes, or my music. I started to get fat and they laughed in my face, telling me I had it coming." My hand made it to her shoulder. "Oh my god, Melanie. I'm sorry." I hesitated at her silence for a moment, "Well if it makes any difference, I think you're beautiful the way you are, and they are nuts to laugh at you." I could see a sparkle in her eye, as her face lit up, and she hugged me. "Thank you so much." She cried into my shoulder, pulling away, wiping her tear. "So what's your horrror story of a childhood?" I gulped at the way she said it. "Horror story". "Well.." I didn't want to feel like it was a competition of who's life was worse, so I skipped the 'horror' part. "Well I was adopted into a loving family, they were nice, they loved me like I was theirs, and I guess I couldn't have asked for a better child hood." But I did, every single day I wish my parents were still alive, no matter how much I loved Nina and her family..I wish I could had grown with mine. "
Melanie smiled. "So you had the perfect childhood?" I nodded. "Mostly." The sky started to turn orange. "Wow it's beautiful, isn't it?" I looked up and shot up. "It's seriously been that long?" She nodded. "I guess time flies." I helped her up, and started to walk toward the now crimpson glow of the fire pit. "You want me to take you home?" She nodded, grabbing her jacket from one of the logs, and putting it on, and we walked tp her front door, only a block away from where I was now living.
"I'll see you around." I started down the drive way, and on the whole walk home all I could think of was Melanie, which was starting to weird me out a bit. I never really had a girlfriend, and I wasn't sure how these things went. I didn't know how to tell if a girl liked you, how long to wait to ask a girl out, or anythinng like that. I just hoped It would lead to that some day. She may have been weird and unacceptable to most people, but I thought she was gorgeous. The most beautiful person I had ever seen. I kicked a rock into the street knowing I would have to explain myself to John and Grace. I walked up to the door, opening it to see Grace and John looking at me, holding a plate of waffles. "Welcome home." I blushed, kicking off my shoes. "Hey guys, I just went for a walk." They saw right through my lie. "Dude, don't you think I know what happened?" John raised his eyebrows. "What happened exactly?" Grace asked. I scratched the back of my neck. "Well, we talked, and the sun started to come up, so I walked her home." John Kissed Grace and looked back at me. "None of that?" I shook my head. "I was a comlete gentleman." Grace patted me on the head. "Good boy." We all laughed.
I hadn't seen Melanie for a week after that night, but I'm getting ahead of myself. We were sitting on the porch. "Hey there downy boy." I rolled my eyes as I saw Bev walking up to me. "Hi." She put a fake frown on her face. "Not happy to see me?" I shrugged. "I'm tired." She sat on the chair next to mine and touched my leg. "So I heard you were with Jelly Mellie." I raised an eyebrow. "Who?" She giggled, "Melanie, the fat smoothie girl." I stood up, pushing the chair in at the table. "Don't call her that." She laughed. "Why not? It's true." I rolled my eyes again. "You ever think that being nice to people will make you a better person? Like all I ever hear you do is complain and gossip ana insult people." She studied her fingernails. "Nice doesn't pay the rent." I scoffed. "Neither does being a bit**." She smiled, "Well I have a place to live, don't I?" I smiled back deviously. "Daddy pays your bills Bev. It doesn't count." I walked away feeling much better. At this point I hadn't seen Melanie in three days. I had walked down to the Smoothie Shack a few times, noone had seen her.
"John... What is wrong with me?" He gently held his hand on my shoulder. "I don't know dude, I'd say love but you barely know the girl." I sighed, getting up and going into my now decorated room. I had bought myself a plain light gray bedspread. My pillows were those big soft fluffy ones, slept like a damn baby. My window had a gorgeous view of the beach, and also had a day bed infront of it. There was a desk, where I kept my writing, drawings, and books at. There was a walk in closet with a mirror on the side of it. There was also quite a bit of space to move around. I could hear John yelling to me, but I pretended to be asleep. "Dude you got a visitor." I shot up, instantly trying to act as if that did not just happen. "Oh, uhm. You wont believe the nightmare I just had." He looked at me unamusement on his face. "Pretend all you want. Just come downstairs." I nervously messed my hair, looking in the mirror.
I casually, extremely casually might I add, fall down the stairs. "Sh*t" I mutter under my breath as I feel blood running down my toes. "Smooth." I look up and blush, seeing Melanie looking down on me. "Oh, you're bleeding.. " I stood up, not letting my bloody foot touch Grace's floor. "It's fine." She hurried next to me, insisting I lean on her until we get to the first aide kit in the bathroom. "You need to sit on the toilet." I sat down, lifting my foot up and proping it up onto the sink. "I watched her as she rummaged through the first aide kit, getting frustrated at how small of the bandaids were. I very much wanted to ask her where she was, but if she had made sure that noone had known where she was, she wanted to keep it that way. "Ah! Perfect!" I smiled as she cleaned my foot with warm soapy water, putting on the bandaid and returning the smile I had given her. "Issac, I'm sorry I haven't been around the past few days." My eyes popped open in shock, could she read my mind? "I had a few....minorities." I stood up, looking down into her eyes and then her looking away blushing. "I was just worried about you, kinda thought my sexyness scared you off." Her face got redder. "You're so cocky." I winked at her. What was coming over me? This girl was bringint the confidence out in me more and more each day, and from that day on, we were together every moment. And I liked the way she made me feel.

    Until I met you.
    Chapter Two:
"Issac, you ready?" I jumped out of bed, groggy and drool half way down my chin. I stood up rubbing my eyes. "Ready for what?" I slumped my way into the bathroom looking at myself in the mirror, and at my wild-like hair. I grabbed my toothbrush, and brushed my teeth as John explained more. "Well, you party pooper, you bailed on us last night to sleep, so today we're taking you down on the beach to meet some of our friends." I spat the minty foam into the sink, taking a sip of water into my mouth, and swishing until I spat that out as well, wiping my chin and smilinf at myself in the mirror. "Well I guess I look okay enough to be seen in public." John threw a pair of socks at me, and I went to get dressed. I grabbed a pair of jeans looking at them, not wanting to wear shorts, and yelled to John. "Will you judge me if I wear jeans?" I heard his feet running closer to me and into my room. "You better not wear jeans." I shrugged. "I could always go in a dress." He sighed. "Wear jeans if you absolutely need to, but at least wear a tanktop." I giggled, pulling a pair of gray swim shorts out of my bag. "I came prepared John." His gray eyes sparkled. "How adorable. But seriously hurry up."
I ran downstairs after checking my dark brown hair to make sure it wasn't a mess. I ran by the kitchen and out the door, grabbing anapple. "You guys ready to go yet or not?" I smiled as I ran and put on my green, worn out converse still walking to the car. Soon Grace and John came out. "Buddy, why you by the car? The beach is like 5 minutes away." I facepalmed myself and grunted. "Forgot!" Which, believe it or not I actually did. I took a bite out of my apple and paused for a moment. I looked back at John and Grace, who just stared at me. "What? Did you forget something?" Grace started laughing, and John just started, confused. I spat out the apple. "PWAH! Dude. Toothpaste+fruit= NO!" We all laughed. Walking down to the beach was fun, until I tripped over someone's leg. "Oh my god, I am so sorry!"I hear in a deep subtle voice. I get up and wipe the sand off of myself. "No, it's fine, is your leg okay?" I meet eyes with this really tall guy as he stands. "My leg is fine, Barely felt a thing." I awkwardly laughed, looking up at him. "Well, I'm sorry, be careful next time alright?" I nodded, and finished walking and looked around, there were barely any people. "Guys, if you tell me your friends are dolphins, I am going to lose it." They smiled and sat down by the shore. "They'll be coming any minute."
After laying in the sun for about an hour, I heard people approaching, and Grace getting up and squeeling. "Bev! Nolan!" I sit up and slowly turn my head to these two people whom Grace was running to. Bev, was a girl, a "tanned skin babe" is what John had whispered to me. She was tall, probably about as tall as me. Her eyes were a golden brown, she had freckles, and her hair was as blonde as can be. She was wearing one of those skirts that look like overgrown scarfs around her waist, And a two piece bathingsuit. Nolan was her twin brother, but he had short brown hait, and obviously he didn't have boobs. "Who's this?" Bev asked, in her low pitched, excited voice. I started to stand, extending out my hand. "Issac." She giggled, and introduced her brother. He seemed to be the "too good for you" douche bag type. "You need to work on your tan, hun." Bev said to me, grabbing at my arm. "But your muscles are perfection." I scratched the back of my neck, letting out a soft laugh. "Well thank you." I looked down at John, who was smiling, and winkking at me. I just felt extremely uncomfortable, to be honest. "You got a girlfriend?" I looked at Bev and smiled. "I don't." She giggled again, and nudged me. "You want to go for a swim?" I nodded, taking off my shirt and walking down into the water, it couldn't hurt. "Don't splash me!" I didn't plan on it, why would I do that? It's rude. The water was so cold and refreshing. I could feel the hairs on my legs standing up, and the goosebumps covering my arms and back, a wave nearly knocked me down, covering my body in the cold, salty water. Bev walked up to me smiling and looked at the water dripping down my face. "You sure know how to make a good impression of yourself." She grabbed my arms again, looking at the huge scar on my forearm. "Rad, what happened there?" I hesitated, not knowing how to explain it. "Well, my friends dared me to jump off the school..." I felt like an idiot, who just jumps off of a school? "Thats awesome." I messed my hair up a bit, "Not really, the scar is from landing on my principals coffee mug." She laughed, and touched it. "Gotta be careful around coffee mugs." I smiled, showing my white, slightly over bitten teeth. "Yeah." Another wave came by, just pushing me forward a little. "I beat that waves a**" Bev laughed, asking me to save her. "What do you mean?" She winked, going farther into the water. "I don't think you should do that." She went under a bit giggling. "Help me Issac, I'm drowning." I laughed a bit as well, "Drowning people don't have time for full sentences." She went under again, grabbing my upper leg, which instantly made me flinch, making me go under. I kept my eyes closed, as much as possible, not being one for keeping his eyes closed for too long, and as I try to kick my feet off of the sand, there wasn't any and I instantly saw siren lights, and my mother's face as she took her last breath. And next thing I know, I see the sky, and Bev in the back, laughing at me. "I'm sorry, I can't help but laugh guys. The doofis can't swim!" I got up, pushing the girl that was over me lightly and out of the way, moving past everyone. "Bro, you okay?" I stuck my hand out, and he backed down, I walked into John's house, and into my room, tearing off my clothes, and getting into dry ones.
I opened the book my Mom had given me again, looking at all the pictures that were inside, and the letters my birthparents had written me, just in case anything had happened to them. I flipped through, page by page, almost in tears. A picture of me and my birth mother, at a school play, I was a frog. My dad, fishing, and me reading a book, not interested in fishing at all. Why did she give me this book? Didn't she know it would hurt? I went to the final page and couldn't help but smile, reading the inscription. "We're not blood, this is your blood. Thank god for these people, without them I wouldn't have you. It's unfortunate how I got you, but everything happens for a reason. You were so happy then, and I've tried every day since to make you that happy. We may not be geneticly connected to you, but we are your family." And underneath is a picture of me, Nina, her husband, and our three dogs. I smiled.
I almost wished I could get back home, but I really want this. I want to be here. I put my shoes back on and walked back down to the beach, and up to John and Grace. A few more people were around by now. "Hey stunna, you back now?" I winked at John. "Only for you baby." He laughed at me. "Oh!, forgive me. This is Dana, Kobe, and Joel. Guys, this is Issac." They all shook my hand and looked over at Bev, who was standing at quite a distance. "Don't worry about her, she's a b*tch." Kobe said to me. I shrugged. "Oh hey, who was that girl standing above me." John sat up and looked at me, half smile, eyes squinted, and motioning his head back. "She's the smoothie girl."

    Until I met you.
    Chapter One:
Sirens, that's the first thing I think of every night before I go to sleep, and unfortunately where my story begins. I remember the stretchers creaking my parents up to the ambulance doors, my neighbors piling up around the crime scene tape. I remember the policemen, and Detectives that talked to me, asking questions like "Did you see the guy who did this?" and "What were you doing while things happened?" One nice lady took me aside, handing me a lollipop and telling me everything would be okay. She told me I would be staying with her for a while. I ran to the porch, tears rolling down my cheeks, the lady, Nina brought me inside, and up to my room to grab my things. "He came in here first." I told Nina. "He told me to keep my eyes and ears closed." She hugged me. "You'll be okay. I wont let anything happen to you." I hugged her back. "What should I grab?" She smiled, and handed me a big suitcase. "All of your favorite things." She ended up adopting me.
I'm 18 now, and I had just graduated and Moving out to California today, I'm from Kansas. I hugged Nina, whom I called mom, and told her I would miss her. "I'll miss you too Issac." Nina and her friend, Clarice brought me to the bus station. The only reason I am moving so far away from home, was because an old friend from Middle school wanted me to come up and meet his fiance to be in their wedding. "Call me anytime Mom, just remember If I don't answer after the first time, text me to have me call." I took her into a huge hug and kissed her cheek. "I love you." She started to tear up and messed up my hair. "Have fun, and stay safe. Oh, and here." She handed me a book and asked me not to read it until I was in Cali.
I walked onto the bus, handed over my ticket, and sat in an empty seat, although most of the seats were empty. I put on my headphones, played my roadtrip playlist aI had spent the night putting together, and closed my eyes. My therapist had told me listening to music would stop the memories from coming through so easily, and most of the time it worked.
"Sir....Rest stop. Need anything from the gas station?" I heard a little girl's voice as I jumped. "Oh, thank you." Her mother gave me a quick smile, asking if I would watch her as she went in for candy. I agreed to it, because her mother had crutches, and I didn't want anything to happen to the little girl, she only looked to be about five years old. "So what are you getting?" She smiled and jumped up and down. "Skittles!" I helped her over to the candy counter, grabbing some water, and a bag of fruit snacks. "You ready to pay for this stuff? I asked the little girl. "Yeah.... but will you take my money and pay for it? I'm scared." I giggled, taking it. "Well hello scared, my name is Issac." She also giggled, "I'm Lilah." We walked up and the clerk took our money. "Have a good day." I said, walking out the door, and up to the bus. "Why did you tell that man to have a good day?" I smiled, motioning for her to get on the bus first. "Everyone needs to be told that every once in a while." She ran on the bus and up to her mom. "Have a good day Mommy!" Her mother smiled, hugging her daughter. "Why thank you, but you're gonna be sitting with me the whole time." She pointed to me and told her mother "Issac told me that everyone needs to hear that every once in a while!" She giggled, and started to stand. "No, you don't have to stand up." She shrugged and thanked me.
I popped my headphones back in, and watched out the window, it was night time now. I watched as the road looked like a vortex, and I was riding on it. The moon as usual, looking like it's been following for miles. The stars were out, way more than I've seen before. I smiled, knowing that this would probably be the last night I'd see so many stars. I closed my eyes, and the night came back to me.
"Get the phone Issac. Call the police." I cried, grabbing my mother's hands, tears flowing down her face as her head lowered, and she stopped breathing. "Mommy?" I ran to the phone and called, but the guy had ran off before they got to my house. The detectives carried me outside as tears fell from my face.
"MISTER!" I jumped up, my heart beating profusely. "What happened?" I looked around seeing the few people on the bus staring at me confused, and next to me, Lilah. "S-sorry. Do you need to pee?" I giggled a little, my heart slowing down. "After that, I'm surprised that I didn't already." Lilah laughed. "Will you help my mommy go? I'm not strong enough." I smiled, looking back at her. "You need to go? Need help?" She smiled back, telling Lilah to sit down. "It's only in the back of the bus, I'll be fine, but thank you." I nodded.
I didn't get much sleep the last night on the bus. I was too excited. Watching thesunrise, taking a picture, and sending it to Nina. "Wish you could see it Mom." And then there it was, right in front of me, and as I pass it, I sigh. "Finally...Califonia." The sign was all I needed to be happy. A few hours passed, and we pulled up to the bus stop. I saw John there, and smiled, as we came to a stop, and Lilah ran up to me. "Thank you so much. Have a good day!" She hugged me, and I smiled. "Have a good day, and take care of your mommy okay?" She nodded, running back to her mom. I remembered when I was little running up to my birth mother like that. I took a deep breath, and walked off the bus, breathing in the California air, grabbinbg my bags and running up to John and his fiance. "Hey budd, long time. This is Grace, Grace, Issac." I went in for a handshake, but she just hugged me. "Well, friendly, isn't she?" John laughed, pulling her back and grabbing her hand. "Don't leave me for this guy, okay?" We all laughed, as I set my bags in the back of his black SUV. "Nice wheels." Grace opened the front door and telling me that I should sit up front. "Oh, thank you."
I watched out the window, amazed by everything. "Wow it's so nice around here." Grace giggled, and looked at me through the rear view mirror. "Wait until you see the beach house." I looked over at John. "Really? I never pegged you to be a beach house guy." He shrugged. "I like the sea breaze." My phone vibrated, and I picked up the call. "Hello?" "Issac! How is Cali?" I smiled, "Amazing, but I only just got here." She proceeded on tlling me about what her friend'd dog found in the trash. I put the phone on speaker, "Hey Mrs. Howe. I'll be taking care of your boy here, he's in good hands." I could hear the hurt in her voice. "Issac, I have to go, but please stay safe, and remember to keep in touch." My face got red. "Mom," I tookthe phone off speaker and up to my ear. "Don't worry, I'll be okay. I'll call you later, Love you." She hung up. John sighed. "She's taking it prety hard, huh?" I nodded. "She doesn't like me being so far." I looked down at the book she handed me, and Opened it. "Oh....my god."
