SO FAR AWAY
- Chapter 1 - Clare's POV -
True love. Very few people know the meaning to these two words. Luckily, I'm one of those few. True love isn't snagging a date with the cutest guy in school and then having him break up with you a week later. True love isn't moving into a new town and having a guy all over you cause your new and "there's something about you." True love isn't exactly settling down for some guy in your town and staying with him because you think you're in love. True love involves fate and a whole lot of luck. Odds are the person meant for you isn't going to live down the street. The world is a big place and if your lucky and fate's on your side you may just find him; like I did.
I never really wanted to fall in love. It wasn't part of my plan. My plan was to make the most out of life, travel the world and do things most people were too afraid to try. I've wanted to ever since I was little. It was my dream; but love would get in the way of it.
I guess I should start at the beginning; how we met.
"Hello California, goodbye New Hampshire." I said confidently strutting out of the LA airport sliding my new sunglasses on. "Now, we only have one week here and I want to make the best out of it. I want to see all the sights, shop, enjoy the food, meet a movie star, maybe even be an extra in a movie." I gleamed to all my friends. We were here in Califronia for our Senior Year Spring Break and all six of us chipped in for the hotel room and were bond to have the most amazing time. My friends wanted to just drive to the nearest beach but they had no sense of adventure. The world was a big place and I was dying to visit California. It was just my personality; traveling, exploring and making the best of life. "Yeah, okay. Have fun doing all those things by yourself cause we came here to relax." One of my friends Leah snapped. The rest of them all agreed with her. "You can relax at home. There's so much to do and see here, come on, please!" I begged. All of them just rolled their eyes at me as we all stuffed into a taxi van to drive over to our hotel.
After we unpacked in our crowded hotel room of six everyone decided to hit the beach. My five friends all put out their colorful towels and layed down to sun bathe. "I'm going to go enjoy the view." I told them while snaching my camera from my bag. They totally weren't understanding the fact that we were in California; I was going to take advantage of it by seeing as many sigths as possible and taking as many chances as I get around here. I walked further on the beach to see everything and took a bunch of pictures.
This was when I met him. You know when you just get a feeling that you need to do something but your not sure why? Well, I had a sudden craving for an icecream and personally I found that to be a sign. I walked into the jampacked icecream place filled with torists. I waited in the long line. Since I had nothing else to do I decided to look at all the pictures I had taken on the way here. My friends clearly didn't know what they were missing out on. They were laying down with their eyes closed in one of the most beautiful places I've ever been too. I paid for the ice cream I had bought and started to walk towards the beach to take some more pictures. "Excuse me, I believe you left this at the ice cream place." A attractive looking guy told me while holding up my wrislet. "Oh thank you so much." I told him sincerely. He was cute but I had no such confidence to talk to him further. I was insecure and didn't want to embarass myself. So after thanking him I continued to walk and sight see. There was this miraculous view that I just needed a picture of. I struggled to take the picture with my ice cream cone in one hand and camera in the other. I finally took a picture but it wasn't any good; so I tried again. The guy who had returned my wrislet to me tapped me on the sholders. "Need help?" he asked followed by a winning smile. I laughed, embarassed, "Yes please. Could you hold my icecream cone?" I asked. He nodded and took the cone away from me while I took the picture. "Thanks again. It's beautiful here." I admitted while taking back my ice cream. "Are you here on vacation?" he asked. I took a lick on my vanilla ice cream and answered him, "Yeah me and my friends are here for spring break. Except none of my friends are very interested in sight seeing and stuff all they want to do is relax on the beach." I admitted to him, I was overjoyed with the fact I was having a conversation with someobody like him. "How about you?" I asked. "My family came here to visit my aunt in her beach house. They're just doing family stuff; so I'm trying to sight see by myself too." This was honeslty too good to be true. This kind of stuff didn't happen to me. If things were going the way they usually did I would have ended up losing my wrislet and dropping my ice cream and wouldn't have even had contact with a cute guy. "Maybe I could tag along, if it's not too much trouble?" he asked. "No, that's no trouble at all." I said faster than I should have. "I'm Clare." I said, holding out my hand for him to shake. He shook it and said back, "Ben. Nice to meet you Clare."
