She dreamt at the age of 12 of a soft sunset shared with him never understanding how much it would hurt or the pain it would cause. So she drifted to sleep with his face in her mind and dreams...
Years later she hadn't given up and wet the pillow with her tears that he caused and he never knew.
He could never see her for what she was worth, he always passed her in the halls like she was just another girl, never aware of the way it made her heart work overtime and the way it cut her so deep.
One day She saw the light. She stopped chasing. She realised she had fallen while he hadn't even stumbled. She got on with her life and eventually she saw, maybe he wasn't worth it.
One day He woke up after a dream of her and felt a new feeling he wasn't aware existed. He saw her smile. He saw the way she laughed and how beautiful she was. But he was too late.
She was still filled with regret and a soft spot was still left in her heart where he would always belong. She stopped believing in fairytales and happy endings. She realised while He was her whole book she was only a chapter in His.
He saw her everyday and let it cut him deeper to see her but not hold her. To know she would never be his. He slowly fell in love with Her. He was too shy to tell her, besides She was happy and She deserved better. Why would she want him?
Her life went downhill until one day she caved in, she couldn't take the pain or live one more day with herself knowing she would never be good enough. She walked down to the jetty just before sunset to end her life and take her last breath. No one would care.
His parents had a fight, he needed a walk. He walked in his sweatpants as a mess down the path next to the beach letting the smell of sea sink into his skin and the way it made him think of Her. As he walked along the jetty he knew he had to tell Her how he felt before it was too late. He had to confess the way he felt. As he got to the end of the jetty he saw a beautiful girl. Jumping. He screamed, ran and plunged in after her hoping it wasn't too late. He pulled her out and dragged her to the jetty. It couldn't be too late. He whispered to her watching her pale beautiful face, so broken. She would never know how much he loved Her. How much he needed her. He knelt to her lips and kissed them. The salty bitter taste of her. He could taste the bitter hurt She had lived with for so long. He then looked to the sky which was just starting to set as he closed his eyes and let a tear a slide down his face as he blamed himself
She opened her eyes and heard the soft sound of hurt. She looked to His face and tried to realise what was happening. He yelled and threw a rock across the sea in anger. She lifted her head to him and looked at the eyes that unconsciously made her so in love. He saw her, eyes shining, he stared until finally his face changed from cold and hurt to joyful hapiness. She wondered what to think as he knelt forward and kissed her. She couldn't explain how it felt. As they pulled apart the words, "I'm sorry but I love you." were whispered soft and beautifully from the lips she loved so much and she watched the sunset from his arms feeling safer than she had in her lifetime and like there was finally hope. It was like the dream she'd never forgotten from when she was 12 but this time it was so much better than anything she could ever imagined and this time, it was real. So finally she had a reason to live for and a hope in this world.
