An Angel from God
He locks eyes with her for the last time,
As he shakily takes his last breathe
He is finally able to rest in peace.
A place of no pain
As she looks into his deep brown eyes,
Her hand softly stroking his soft head,
Memories flash before her eyes.
She remembers everything
Every touch, every kiss, every laugh
She remembers it all
. . . .
He was 6 weeks old
She was 9 years old
He was a runt, not expected to live.
She saw him and instantly fell in love
She raced to beg her parents
They said no.
Her heart broke into a million pieces,
After begging and begging
Her parents finally said yes!
She got to take the little one home.
He grew into a strong, but gentle dog.
No more runt-ness for him!
They did everything together,
Teaching him tricks,
Playing in the pool,
Taking him on walks,
But never fetch.
He hated fetch.
Years past and their friendship grew stronger.
The love of a girl and her dog
Unseparated unless they had to be
Every day he protected her, from the bad things
And every night he slept with her,
Keeping away the nightmares.
Now back at the hospital,
Six years later.
She watches him die
It came on too fast,
Overnight.
Ever since then,
Having to fight for his life every day
They met eyes again
But it’s different this time.
He’s already given up.
He closes his eyes.
And he’s gone.
She silently cries too herself,
Wondering why God chose her dog,
Out of everyone else’s.
But for now, she weeps
The demon disease took over.
And cancer won.
