Gone
chapter 10
A few minutes later, the loud sound of police sirens rang thorugh the warm summer air. I already felt sick. The police had to question us, and we could be considered suspects. I don't think a baseball bat and a knife is the best thing to be holding right now. Quickly, I hid them in a nearby bush, silently praying the police wouldn't search there. The police was getting closer
"What if they think we killed Katy?" I asked, worried.
"They won't. There's no evidence, anyway. Wait, what am I saying? We're the innocent ones!" she yells back.
"Right," I said. "There's only one problem. How are we going to explain this to the police with telling them about the notes I've been getting and the girl who tried to kill us?"
"We're not. We're going to tell them the truth." Sara says in an obvious-tone.
"Something tells me this girl, whoever she is, won't be too happy if confess what she's done..."
The police arrived, parking near a set of bushes. Right when they were about to open the door, Sara leaned over and whispered something to me.
"Just follow my lead."
Two police opened got out of their car. One walked over to us and began to ask us questions, while the other one led her German Sheppard into the woods, searching for Katy's body.
"Hello, I'm officer Jack. And what might your names be?" the police turned to Sara and me.
"I'm Camila, and this is my friend, Sara." I replied, calmly.
"Okay, do you mind if I ask you two some questions?"
"Not at all. Ask anything you'd like." I managed to let out, tears filling up my eyes.
"What were you three girls doing out here so late?£ Officer Jack questioned.
"We were sleeping over my house," Sara began. "and we got bored. So, we decided to come to the woods and have a camp out. "
"But why camp out here, if you could have done the same in your backyard?"
Did he know we were lying?
"Because we wanted adventure! We wanted to have fun. None of us knew it would end like this!" Sara started to cry.
She was so good at lying, she almost convinced me.
"I see. Can I ask you a question, Camila?"
"Uh...sure." I said. He must've sensed my nervousness.
"How did Katy disappear?" Officer Jack asked.
"Well, Katy and me started to hear noises after a while. So we told Sara that we should all go back home. Even though she didn't want to, Sara agreed, knowing we were scared. Then, we began walking back. And...that's when it got bad. I said it would better if we ran home, so we did. But while we were running, Katy must've tripped. Sara and me didn't notice until we reached the end of the woods! It's our fault!" I start to sob.
"It's alright, no need to cry. I think that's enough questions. Let's get you two ladies home. Address?
The officer who went into the woods with her dog earlier returned. Except, she hadn't found any DNA, footprints, or Katy's body. Well, that was strange. Was the mysterious girl that good at covering up a crime? If she was, than maybe we were dealing with a professional. Maybe it wasn't just a prank. Maybe she was a real killer after all. The blood on my wall, the knife in her hand, Katy's dissapearence...it was all adding up.
The police took us into their car and drove us back to Sara's house. Her parents greeted us by the door, surprised to see Officer Jack with us. He explained what happened to Katy, then left, leaving Sara's parents in complete shock. Then they began to ask questions. This time it was easier to lie, since I wasn't as nervous around her parents as I was arround the police.
When they finally left us alone, Sara and me went upstairs to her room while sipping on ice cold lemonade.
"That was all really, really scary." she said.
"Yeah, but you are such a good liar. I'm sure they believed everything we said."
"Are you kidding? I was okay, but you were amazing! Have you considered acting? Seriously."
"Aw, thanks." I smiled. "Anyways, we need a plan to find Katy."
"I'm too tired and exhausted. We can think of one tomorrow. If we're going to be chasing a killer, we need our sleep. Right?"
With that, she turned off the lights and we each went to our seperate bunk beds. I had a bad feeling the girl wasn't going to stop at Katy. I had a bad feeling she wasn't going to stop until all of us were gone.
