I'm in a situation where my parents no longer allow me to tlk to this guy that i have become really close friends with. THey wont let us date yet because they feel like im not ready.I can deal with that because its not permanent but what im worried about is him getting bored waiting and finding another girl. this is the 2nd time we've been told we can no longer talk and last time he went and starting tlkin to other girls. This time however he keeps saying he ain't goin any where.... THis is where trust come s in.... should i trust him and stop worrying or what. i'm super nervous bout loosing him again because he might get bored.

    State of Grace
    Chapter 31
That day Grace rushed home to tell her family the news. When she was finished speaking, they all kept quiet. “Why are ya’ll quiet?” she asked.
Her mother laughed and said, “Gracie, we all thought you two were a thing since August!” Grace blushed and looked down at her feet. Across the room Teddy was resting comfortably in his Grandpa’s arms. Grace took him from her dad and went out to the porch.
It was a cool autumn night and the Foster’s had finished a peaceful dinner. Grace was tickling her nephew softly when the roar of a truck became more and more profound. His lights illuminated the trees as he pulled off the road and into her drive way. He stepped out of the truck and looked up at the porch. She couldn’t make out anything from the shadow his hat cast over his face.
He surprised her then by crossing over to the passenger’s side of his truck. When he opened the door Ella jumped out and took her brother’s hand. They crossed the yard and reached the place Grace was sitting. Ella’s blond hair had started to grow back and it shined in the porch light. At this notice, Grace’s hand smoothed down her own hair. It wasn’t as long as it used to be but it was getting there.
“I kept your secret,” said Ella.
“I know you did,” responded Grace. Luke leaned against the door and watched his two favorite girls.
“You said it would never happen though,” said Ella.
    “Well….miracles happen,” said Grace.
“I know,” said Ella softly. They both touched their scars and Ella smiled.
    “I’ll keep yours,” said Grace.
“But I’m not scared anymore, not if your around,” responded Ella.
Grace smiled and looked up at Luke. He held Teddy in his arms and was talking to him. As Luke met Grace’s gaze, Ella reached for the baby. When Teddy was safely inside with Ella moments later, Luke knelt down by Grace.
He took of his hat, his eyes never leaving hers. Her green eyes closed as he kissed her out on the porch. “I love you,” he said when they broke apart.
“Hey, slow down, cowboy,” she said. He took her hand and pressed it.
“No, Grace, I love you,” said Luke.
    “Luke,” she said.
    “What?”
“I love you too.” And with that Luke laughed and swung Grace up in his arms. He buried his face in her hair and smiled.
    The end.

    State of Grace
    Chapter 30
It took Luke two months into the school year to ask Grace out as his official girlfriend. The pair had ended the summer with spending the rest of their time together. They went to the county fair together, the movies, the lake, and drove around some nights. Many of their free days were spent near the lake, fishing and learning about each other.
When school started Luke must have noticed some of the attention other boys gave Grace and he didn’t take it too well. He never punched anyone else but he’d walk up behind them and well the rumor about Luke Taylor punching John Holmes must have spread. Finally May grew tired of watching other boys scurry away from a menacing looking Luke and a blushing Grace.
“Ask her out!” she whispered to Luke as she passed him in the hall one October morning. He had been headed to Grace’s locker where she stood waiting.
    “Pardon me?” he asked, confused.
May stopped and turned to face him. “Ask Grace out,” she said, “Its getting ridiculous even Michael agrees.” She had pulled his backpack strap from the rushing crowd and he backtracked to meet them.
    “What do I agree with?”
“That Luke should ask Grace out!” said May.
“You’re not going to?” said a voice. Grace had joined the small party. She was holding her stack of books to her chest and looked confused and sad. Luke hated to see her sad so he pulled her over to his side, where she fit just perfectly in the nook of his shoulder.
“No, of course I would ask you!” said Luke, reassuringly.
“You would?” said Grace, but it wasn’t a question. There was a hint of sarcasm in her tone. Luke got the hint, “I will. Where do you want to go?”
She pushed him away and he laughed and hugged her tight, saying, “Come on Grace! You know I like you. I don’t have to ask to know you’re my girl.”
Grace smiled into his shirt and nodded. May would have shouted something if Michael didn’t cover her mouth with his hand. He grabbed her hand and pulled her away from the new couple, rolling his eyes the whole time.

    State of Grace
    Chapter 29
Teddy was two months old when Ashley Smithson finally dumped Luke Taylor. For reasons the rest of the future senior class couldn’t understand, Luke was beyond happy.
“Luke,” said Luke’s good friend, “Ashley is one of the hottest girls in our entire school! Are you stupid or something?”
Luke wasn’t stupid; he just hadn’t been that smart. He had wanted to be rid of her for awhile but he didn’t have the heart to break up with her. Apparently the break up hadn’t gone over well either. Things were thrown and profanity was used in ways someone shouldn’t have to hear.
Luke actually got to work with Grace in the fields that day, confessing later to Grace that Ashley had forbid it before.
“Why is your arm bleeding?” she asked him.
“Oh Ash threw something at it. She was aiming for my head,” he shrugged.
“Ash?” she said, smirking. He shoved her into the dirt, “Hey! Jerk,” she said, half laughing. She got up, brushed the dirt of her jeans, and poked him in the side, “You’re it!”
“Real mature,” he said, his hands on his hips.
“Are you slow or just a chicken?” she mocked. He dropped the tool he had been using and sprinted after her. They ran through the fields until they got to her house. When Mr. and Mrs. Foster, Annie and Ryan saw Grace and Luke come out of the fields laughing and panting, they all exchanged a look.
“Ya’ll okay?” called Grace’s dad, looking a little worried. They hadn’t seen Luke or Grace interact in weeks or look this happy.
“Yes sir, we’ve been thinking we try out this thing all the normal people call “friendship” and see where it gets us,” said Luke, smiling down at Grace.
Later that night, when her family had already gone to bed, Grace and Luke stayed out talking on the porch. She took his hand in hers and asked, “Friendship?”
Even in the dark she could tell he was blushing again. “For now,” he started, “That’s all I thought you’d want… since your last relationship went so well with John.”
She punched him on the arm and he pretended it hurt while they both laughed. “I’d like to be more then friends though,” she said after they had stopped laughing.
    “Me too, darlin’, me too,”
He stood up, kissed the top of her head and got in his truck and drove away. When the headlights disappeared, Grace went up to another sleepless night.

    State of Grace
    Chapter 28
Grace didn’t see Luke for another week again. She would see his truck pull up in the morning for work, right next to hers, and then she’d watch it vanish again at night. When he did show up, he was so happy to see her. It was right after mass where Grace watched Ashley sit with Luke’s family the entire service, tightly holding onto his hand. He must have escaped after since he pulled up to Grace’s house an hour after Church.
“Hi Grace!” he yelled. He jumped out of his truck and ran to meet her.
“What’s going-?” asked Grace but she got interrupted by another bear hug from Luke. When he let her go, she took his hand. She saw his smile from underneath his hat.
“Luke, we have to talk,” said Grace, sadly.
    “About what?” he asked.
“This! Well, whatever the hell this is! You can’t be hugging me when you’re dating her,” replied Grace.
He stepped closer and she looked at his face. He still had the stitches but the bruise was healing. Unfortunately it left an ugly yellow mark around his eye.
“I thought you liked what you see, that you’d never change me, that you loved me,” said Luke, retreating from Grace. She followed him until she was right under the brim of his hat.
“I do like you, Luke, but I ain’t gonna be the other woman,” she said. He nodded and tried to smile. She kissed him on the cheek and spun around and walked away from him.
That night Grace couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned for hours until she finally gave up. She climbed out of her window and onto the roof. For awhile, at least until morning, she sat and watched the sky and all its stars. She had no clue that across town, Luke was doing the exact same thing.

    State of Grace
    Chapter 27
On the way home, Annie insisted that they stop and pick up ice from the supermarket. Ryan and their mother agreed without hesitation. Grace knew full well that they had three bags at home. When they arrived at their house, the Taylors and the Watsons were all waiting their arrival.
“Sorry,” Grace said to May, “We had to get ice for some god forsaken time when ice runs out.” They soon were called inside for brunch. Everyone wished Grace a happy birthday before they sat down. Luke, Grace, and May were wedged up against each other in the corner of the dining room. Teddy, as they decided to call him, was fast asleep in his mother’s arms. Everyone else was seated comfortably around the table. Grace’s father was still missing.
“I’m sure he’ll be here soon,” repeated her momma. He showed up eventually and they got to eating.
When they were done, Grace’s dad slid the blue box across the table to her. She opened it and found a personalized key.
“Is this a key to the house or attic..?” asked Grace, confused. Her dad shook his head. Luke and May pulled Grace up by the elbows and pulled her outside. Parked in the middle of the drive way was a brand new red Ford ranger. Grace’s mouth dropped open. May yelled, “She loves it!” and Luke pulled her into a bear hug. Everyone who had followed them grew silent. Luke dropped Grace on the ground and shuffled a few feet away from her. May grabbed her hand and pulled her closed to the truck. She got in the passenger seat as Grace got in the driver’s seat. Grace spent the day driving everyone from little Teddy to her momma around in the truck.
When night came, the Taylors and Watsons had been long gone. Luke was out in the yard talking to her father. Grace was enjoying the night, rocking Teddy to sleep in her arms. Annie and Ryan opened the front door, the light from the house spilling onto the lawn. Ryan took his son from his sister’s arms and went to put him in the car. Annie hugged Grace good bye before following Ryan. They waved as they pulled out of the yard. Her dad and Luke rounded the corner and her dad went inside. Luke leaned against the railings of the porch.
“Can you give me a ride home?” he asked.
“Why not?” said Grace as they started off towards the new truck.
“So can you believe you got a truck for your birthday?”
“No, it was such a surprise!” replied Grace, smiling. She felt easy and comfortable with Luke. He seemed comfortable too.
They talked and joked the entire trip. Luke’s smile faded as they pulled up to his house. “Uh oh,” he said and he was right. Ashley was sitting on his front steps; arms crossed and looking ready to attack. Grace wished him good luck and backed out before anything bad happened.

    Chapter 25
When the two cars arrived at Luke’s house, Luke was fast asleep in the bed of his truck. Grace ran up to knock on the door when she saw a note posted on it. The Taylors were staying at the hospital. May had parked Luke’s truck, scribbled a note on it, and was in the front seat of Michael’s car by the time Grace returned.
“They’re not home,” said Grace, “We shouldn’t leave him here alone.”
They drove off towards Grace’s house with Luke’s head in her lap. She cleaned up the blood as best as she could with her sleeve. Her mother did a better job when they got there.
“He might need stitches, girls,” she said, looking up. May and Grace looked terrible. May looked worried and exhausted and Grace’s face was puffy from crying. Michael had carried his friend inside and went to call the Watson’s.
“Grace, did you know you are covered in Luke’s blood?” asked May, disgusted, “I guess that’s true love.”
“Oh shut it. I don’t…not anymore. I mean he is with Ashley still,” replied Grace.
“Probably not after this,” said May, “He ran through a corn field looking to punch whoever was hurting you. Not Ashley, you, Grace. He likes you.”
Grace shook her head, “I’m an idiot. I should have known John was drunk.”
“No,” said May, “I’m the idiot who left you alone with John Holmes. I knew who was drinking and who wasn’t…. and I didn’t warn you.”
The two girls had walked out onto the front porch to wait for May’s parents. May hugged Grace tightly as their car pulled up the drive way. They hurried up the steps and into the kitchen where Luke was passed out.
Fifteen minutes later they walked out with good news. Luke was up and not in that much pain. He had thirteen stitches near his right eye.
“Come on, honey,” said Mr. Watson, “Let’s go home.” Michael had left an hour ago, trying to make it home before curfew. May held both her parents hands and was led to the car like a little girl.
When Grace entered the kitchen, her mother was leaving a message on the Taylor’s voicemail. “Hi, this is Mary Foster. Your boy got in some trouble at the party and he had to get stitches. We got him fixed up alright though. He can stay here in the guest bedroom and we’ll bring him home tomorrow. He’s really fine so you don’t need to worry. I hope Ella is okay,” finished her mother.
Luke was sitting on the counter with his head in his hands when Grace had come into the room. He looked up when Grace’s mom hung up the phone.
“Thanks Mrs. Foster,” he said, as she left the room. His eyes were bloodshot and his face had dried blood all over it. Grace grabbed a wash cloth and ran it under warm water. She gently ran it over his face and he closed his eyes. She washed his face until all the blood was gone. She pulled her hand away but Luke caught her wrist. She looked up from her feet and into his eyes.
“You’re amazing,” he said, “And I’m so sorry. I humiliated you in front of everyone.”
Grace shrugged and patted his hair down. “Luke,” she said and he looked up at her again, “Thanks for saving me, again.” He laughed and leaned his head back against a cabinet.
“I have a lot of damage to fix tomorrow, huh?” he asked.
“Yeah you better get some rest.”
