CHAPTER 3: CHLOE & RACHEL
I run into Physics in a hurry as a result of my panic attack. I used to get them loads, back when I was dating Connor. Seeing him probably brought it all back. What was he doing here though??? Ugh, he's such a player. First the waves come, then the dizzy sickness that soaks right into me, then the terrified nausea.
Luckily I came out of the Infirmary just before the end of First Period, so I'm early. Slumping in a chair, I sit down next to a dark haired girl.
"Hi!" she introduces herself. "I'm Rachel."
She gestures to the girl across the aisle.
"That's Chloe. She's my best mate. Wanna hang out with us at lunch?"
I grin.
"Uh huh! Is Meena Bryson always so....self centred?" I ask, intrigued. "She acts like everyone should know who she is, and want to be her. Quite frankly, I'm happy being me!!!"
Rachel chuckles.
"You met Meena?"
I nod.
"She came in when I was in the Medical Room. I....had a panic attack...saw this boy I used to date."
Whoah! Where did that come from? Normally I'm quite shy, but I feel like I can tell Rachel anything.
Rachel looks across at me.
"You get those?"
I nod again, regretfully. Why did I tell her? Now she'll never want to be my mate. Yay, Tori-No-Friends. Big whoop.
But Rachel smiles shyly. "I used to get panic attacks, after my dad died."
"Oh." I don't know what else to say. Suddenly she points to two girls sitting on a desk with Meena. One is blonde with pale skin and bright red lipstick. The other has tangled brown hair in a tall, messy updo. Somehow, the brunette manages to smile wickedly whilst applying a coat of peach lipstick.
"That's Laura Bolton." Rachel says, seeing my gaze. "She really is evil. Mean for the fun of it. Hmm, let me see...Hobbies: Pulling the wings off flies, scaring 1st graders, chasing cats....Yeah, like I said, she's pure evil."
She pauses to look at the blonde girl, who is currently adjusting her long, loose hair.
"That's Keera Keenan. You can practically see the thought bubbles - 'Ooh, shiny.' and 'Look at me, boys!' or maybe 'Gasp at my beauty'. She's just vain. And spoilt. And materialistic. And-"
"I get it!!" I stop her. "Basically, you hate her guts."
"That's right!"
We both giggle, and Meena's little group turn to glare at us, which only makes us giggle harder. If this is what it's like just with Rachel, I can't wait to get to know Chloe.
The teacher walks into the classroom and begins the lesson.
I pass notes with Chloe and Rachel; we giggle together; we work together. It's like having friends again. Part of me thinks that....Maybe these are my friends.
