Ours
Chapter six.
Things were perfectly settling into place. It was five weeks before the baby was due, the house was completely furnished with our little guy's room perfectly done. I loved having to take care of a house and a man. I loved having to clean up and cook dinner. Austin is a diabetic, as well as he has celiac, so all the food in the house had to be gluten free. And I loved having to go food shopping and make sure everything was healthy, organic and gluten free for him. It was a dream come true.
September 21st, my birthday. I woke up to hearing him singing Marvin Gaye in the kitchen and the aroma of pancakes throughout our home.
I sort of stumbled and wobbled into the kitchen, my hair up in a bun, glasses on and in his sweatshirt.
"Birthday babe! You're awake just in time for breakfast!" He exclaimed.
I smiled at him, "you made me breakfast?"
"Of course!" he jumped across our kitchen to give me a kiss. "I've got the best birthday surprise for you! You're gonna love it!"
"A surprise? For me? You didn't have to!" I secretly loved it.
"Well it's kind of for both of us, after breakfast, get ready and we'll go get it!"
"Where is it?" I asked.
"My parents house!"
We ate our gluten free pancakes and both quickly showered. Austin's excitement was really making me curious. I couldn't even imagine what he had gotten me. I was thinking maybe he planned a surprise party for me, but he knows I don't have enough energy to party anymore. The drive to his parents house was only a 5 minute drive but it seemed like it was taking forever. He took the longest possible route, stopped for gas, drove as slow as possible. I couldn't contain my excitement. What had he gotten me!?
It was a little after noon when we arrived at his parents home. His four year old sister, Scarlett, ran to us.
"Casey! Austin! I miss you guys! Happy birthday Casey!" She jumped around us.
"Hey Scarlett! Thanks kiddo! How are you?"
We sat down in the living room and started to talk to his parents for a while. Austin stood up and walked away for a while, he had gone down to the basement. Where we often hung out before we had our own apartment. We watched so many movies down there, played pool and did homework. I was sitting there with his family when he came back upstairs.
"Casey! close your eyes!" He exclaimed. I was facing the other direction and heard some scruffing around. I was really getting curious.
"Okay turn around!" He was so excited.
I stood up and turned around. In Austin's hand he held two little great dane puppies. "oh my god! No you didn't!! No way! Austin! This is! You got puppies!?" I was beyond excited.
"Yes! We finally have what we've always talked about getting! Great Danes!"
I looked over at his parents who were smiling, Scarlett ran across the room to pet our new family members. I picked one up, she was chocolate brown with specks of white and gray. The other one was mainly gray with a touch of white. I was smiling ear to ear.
"Lady and Thor." I looked up to Austin, who nodded with approval.
