   Chapter Thirty Three
   Cole
   It took half an hour for the girl's to get ready. Fix their hair, choose what shoes they wanted to wear, what sunglasses to take...
   Finally, they walked down the stairs. Abbey was wearing a black and hot pink bikini with pink sandals and pink rimmed sunglasses. Her blonde hair was pulled up in a messy bun and her fringe was pinned onto the top of her head. Instantly, Aaron leaped at her and hugged her close to him.
   Another pair of sandals appeared on the top of the stairs and I looked up to see Luce in an oversized see through top and a sky blue bikini. She had her long blonde loose around her shoulders and her sunglasses sat on top of her head.
   "Hey," she said, coming to stand beside me once she reached the bottom of the stairs. "Everyone ready to go?" I called. Abbey and Aaron turned to look at me and nodded.
   "K let's go!" squealed Luce. It reminded me a lot of when we were younger.

   Ugh, I've been so busy its unbelievable. I have a 7 hour rehearsal for our school show on Monday, then more rehearsals on Tuesday, and then the show on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday.
   Last night I was out with friends, today im going back to my old school (where my brothers still go) because they're having a Summer Fayre. And then I'm going to stay with my best friends for one of their birthdays. So yeah, quick chapter today. I might write when I'm at my friends but that's probably unlikely.
   Sorry this is short, but I really gotta go. Enjoy, love you guys!♥

   Abbey walked into the room, Luce standing a little behind her.
   "What's going on?" she asked, eyeing me suspiciously.
   I turned away from Aaron and let go of the glass. "Nothing."
   "Yeah, sure. Aaron, what did he do to you?" Abbey looked past me.
   I felt a pang of jealousy.
   "Nothing, babe. Really."
   I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned again to see Luce behind me.
   "Are you okay?" she asked, staring into my eyes.
   "Yeah," I said, looking away from everyone.
   Luce pulled my face back to hers. "Are you sure you're alright, Cole?"
   I smiled reassuringly and hugged her. "I'm fine."
   "Okay. If anything's wrong, tell me?"
   I pulled back and looked into her face.
   "Will you?"
   "Yeah," I replied.
   She smiled. "Good."
   I kept my arms around her and we turned to look at Abbey and Aaron.
   They turned at the same time and Luce cleared her throat.
   "Uh... what do you want to do?"
   Abbey stared icily at me. "We should go to the beach. I've not been to the beach in ages."
   "I'm in," Aaron stated, slinging his arm around Abbey.
   "Fine, I'll go," I said, looking at Luce.
   "K, let me get changed first.. uh, Cole, do you know where Mom put my clothes?"
   "I don't think she moved them, they should be in your room as usual," I told her.
   "Ok, thanks," she smiled.
   "I'll come with you, I brought my swim stuff with me, so I'll change in your room, Luce," Abbey said, following Luce upstairs.
   Aaron walked away muttering something about his shorts were in his car, so I walked to my room and pulled out a pair of swimming shorts and changed into them before waiting for the res of them.

   Ok, so, I've heard a load of people are leaving Witty. Including bdstories.
   I was considering leaving, but I love writing so much I think I'd regret it.

   Abbey stared at me, probably waiting for me to speak.
   An awkward silence hung in the air.
   "Um.. does anyone want a drink?" asked Luce.
   "Sure," said Aaron. "What you got?"
   "Um... I don't actually know..." she blushed and looked down.
   "I'm on it, don't worry," I said, leading Aaron to the kitchen.
   "We have apple, orange and blackcurrant juice, lemonade, coke, water, or I could make a hot chocolate if you want one-"
   "It's great to see you."
   I looked up, startled. "Um.. it's great to see you too Aaron..." I answered.
   "Cole, when Abbey and I left... I actually missed you a lot. A hell of a lot. You're my little brother, and I know I'm meant to look after you.. I just, basically, I just abandoned you. I'm sorry."
   I looked at him and then felt anger rise up in me.
   I suddenly slammed the glass I'd been holding down on the counter.
   "You're right. You did abandon me, you did leave me, you did ditch me with nothing, no one, except the parents that beat me up every night, the parents you promised you would protect me from. But no, you didn't, you had to run away, without so much as a goodbye. And you missed me? Yeah right. Next joke, bro. I'm ashamed to even call you part of my family. You're a selfish, shallow person, and I hate that you're my brother."
   Aaron was looking at me, shocked for words.

   It was all too soon when the doorbell rang. I glanced at the clock as Luce jumped up excitedly to get it. 23:49.
   I heard the doorbell ring again, and then the sound of the door being unlocked and opened..
   And then her voice
   "LUCE!"
   I froze in my seat. That voice I hadn't heard in over two years. That beautiful, amazing voice.
   "Abbey!" I could hear the smile in Luce's voice. "Aaron!"
   "Hey kid. We've missed you," I heard my brother say.
   There was the sound of their feet pounding through the hall, and then Luce burst through the door into the sitting room. I walked into the kitchen before she saw me, pretending to do the washing up. I was not ready to see Abbey or Aaron right now.
   "Cole?" Luce's voice rang through the living room.
   "Wait- Cole's here?" That was Abbey's voice.
   I sighed and slowly walked towards the door.
   I peered out and saw Luce standing in the doorway. She smiled at me when she saw me.
   My eyes swept the room. I met the piercing eyes of my brother, and his face broke into a grin. "Hey bro. Long time no see, huh?"
   I nodded at him, unable to speak.
   And then my eyes locked on hers. Her mouth fell open slightly and I dropped my gaze. How could I stare at the girl, who'd broken my heart after I fell for her, like this?
   "Cole-" she started, but her voice cracked and she didn't speak.
   I couldn't still love Abbey... she was in love with my brother, and we hadn't seen each other in years...
   Could I still love her?

   "Hey-"
   "Hi Mom, sorry I was late to the phone, I just got out the shower!"
   "Abbey, this isn't Mom. It's Luce."
   "Holy sh●t!"
   I heard the phone drop.
   "Abbey?" There was Aaron's voice. "What's wrong?"
   "My sister's on the phone. Can you please answer it?" Her voice sounded strained and weak.
   "LUCE?!"
   I smiled. "Hey Aaron."
   "OH MY GOD. YOU'RE AWAKE!"
   "Is Abbey okay?"
   "Sure, just shocked. Here, I'll put her back on."
   I heard the phone shifting, and soon Abbey was back on, asking me if I was alright, who I was with, where was I....
   "We're on our way back home. We'll be there tonight, I promise!"
   "Okay."
   "I love you little sis."
   "I love you too," I said, smiling.
   I looked at Cole, and saw him frowning at the ground.
   I hadn't thought about how hard, and awkward this would be for him.
   Surely he'd understand...?

   I answered the door when it rang, and saw my mother's beaming face as she instantly grabbed me, pulling me in for a hug.
   "Mom," I breathed, holding her close.
   "Luce, I'm so glad you're okay, I was so worried when they said you were in a coma."
   She pulled back and we looked at each other for a moment. "I've missed you so much!" she eventually said, and hugged me again.
   "Mom?" I asked.
   "Mhm?"
   "Do you have Abbey's phone number?"
   "You've not called her yet?"
   "No, we don't have her phone number," I heard Cole reply for me. I turned and he came out of the kitchen, standing behind me, his hands on my shoulders.
   "Here, this is her number. You guys call her right now."
   I took the phone from her hands and scrolled through her contacts, hesitating before clicking 'Abbey'.

   "Hey Dean," I groaned, as Cole's best friend skipped into the kitchen and snatched up the piece of toast I was about to eat.
   "Hey, that's my toast!" I protested.
   Dean suspended it from the air in front of my face.
   "Oh sorry... you want it?"
   "Yeah!" I smiled, reaching up to take it back.
   "Too slow!" he laughed, dropping it into his mouth.
   I scowled at him and grabbed a different piece.
   "Soo... you guys are like, together now, right?" Dean burst out.
   "Uhhh..." I looked at Cole.
   He mouthed 'sorry' at me, and ignored Dean.
   Dean looked confusedly between Cole and I. "Wait.. you are.. aren't you?"
   "Um... could we not discuss this right now?" Cole asked as politely as he could, shooting Dean a glare.
   I saw Dean shoot a confused one back at him, but i pretended I didn't see it.
   There was a very awkward silence and then I broke it. "So does Abbey know I'm alive?"
   Cole just about choked on his breakfast, and Dean cast a wary glance at him before leaving the kitchen.
   I looked at him as he moved out of the room. "What?"
   "Uh.. Abbey and I aren't.. speaking right now."
   "What/ Why?"
   "Um... you don't need to hear this Luce."
   "No, tell me?"
   "Really, Luce, don't wor-"
   "I said tell me. I need to know why, because if it's not important, I'd really like you to call her. She's my sister, and I want her to know I'm alive!"
   Cole looked uneasy and sighed, sitting down beside me.
   "You might not like this, Luce..." he warned me, looking down.
   What was going on? What had happened while I was in the coma?

   I yawned.
   "You tired?" Cole asked.
   I nodded and got up off the sofa. "I'm going to head upstairs. See you."
   Cole got up too and walked up the stairs behind me. I walked into my room and turned back, looking out the door.
   "Night!" I called.
   "Night Luce!" I heard Cole reply.
   I smiled and undressed, folding my clothes and putting them on the chair in the corner of the room. Then I pulled on a strap top and pajama trousers and slipped under the covers.
   Then I realized I still had to brush my teeth and switch off the light.
   I groaned and jumped out of bed, walking into the en suite and brushing my teeth. Then I walked back into the bedroom and switched off the light. I made my way through the dark to the bed, and collapsed into it again.
   I soon fell asleep.

   When I woke up, the smell of toast, cereal and french bread wafted up the stairs to my room.
   I climbed out of bed, brushed through my hair, and pulled on a jumper.
   When I walked downstairs, I gasped. The table was covered in food. Croissants, different cereals, toast, bread, waffles...
   "Morning sleepy head," Cole greeted me already dressed in jeans and a tight-fit top. "I was just in the middle of making hot chocolate. Want some?"
   "Cole, oh my god, this is so much food, I'm not going to be able to eat this!"
   "No silly, I have to eat too you know."
   "Yeah but, this is loads!"
   "And Dean eats whatever's on offer.""
   "Wait.. Dean's coming over for breakfast?"
   As if on cue, the doorbell rang.
   "Yup. That should be him now."
   I looked down at myself with a groan.
   As Dean walked in the door, I muttered under my breath.
   "Here comes a morning of torment.

    I held back slightly, not sure what to do.
    I'd never kissed someone before.
    "What's wrong?" he asked, looking at me with worry in his eyes.
    I shook my head.
    "Come on, Luce, tell me."
    I could feel a blush coming on. "Um..."
    He raised an eyebrow and I realized his arms were still around me.
    "I've... never kissed someone before.." I said, casting my eyes at the ground.
    I couldn't look at him after saying that!
    To my surprise, he started laughing.
    "What?" I demanded, looking up at him.
    "Luce, you seriously think I care if you've never kissed someone before?"
    "Well ye-"
    "I really don't."
    "Oh."
    He pulled me in for a hug.
    "Luce, I'd rather have you than someone who's been out with millions of guys before and thinks they know everything about guys."
    I laughed. "Okay."
    There was an awkward silence and I played with my fingers.
    Cole cleared his throat. "So.. are we going to finish this pizza?"
    I laughed and got up, grabbing the pizza box.

    We watched the movie, and I ended up sitting beside Cole. I felt his arm around me and instantly felt less scared. I usually didn't mind scary films, that was much more an Abbey thing, but tonight?
    I was definitely freaked out.
    I wasn't sure if I'd deliberately chosen a scary movie so that I could be closer to Cole, or if I thought I'd be able to sit through it on my own.
    Either way, I'm glad I did choose it.
    I'm glad I got scared,
    I'm glad Cole put his arm around me when I sat beside him.
    And I'm glad I couldn't stop myself from doing this.
    I turned round and pressed my lips to his.
    A few moments later I felt him kissing back, and I smiled.
    He pulled away first, resting our foreheads together.
    "Luce.."
    I looked at him. "What? I'm sorry, I shouldn't ha-"
    "Shut up and kiss me."
    I almost laughed but he pulled my face back to his.

    Ok, so I know this chapters a little shorter than usual, but there's a lot i want to fit in.
    Oh and also, a lot of you have been saying you want 'Abbey and Cole' and for them to get together.
    I just want to see who you want to see with Cole:
    Abbey, Luce, Ava or Annie.

    Complications Sequel to Terrible Beauty Chapter Twenty Two ColeI left Luce in her room, giving her some time to herself and went downstairs to watch the tv.I flicked through the channels, loving that I could do that here because at my house, I wasn't allowed to decide anything.I settled for a soap that I hadn't watched in forever and sank lower into the couch.I almost laughed at myself. I just had to choose the programme that I hadn't seen in years and I watched with a confused face on the whole time. I had no clue what was going on. Where were the original characters and what was going on? Last time I checked, this was not where the story line was going..I must've fallen asleep, because the next thing I knew, Luce was shaking me awake."Cole?" "Mmm?" I asked sleepily."What do you want for dinner?"I shot up, rubbing my eyes with the backs of my hands. "Sorry Luce. I'll go make it. What do you want?""No, it's alri-""Nope, I'm making it. What do you want?"She smiled. "How about we just order a pizza?"I laughed. "Sure. What kind?""Ham and Pineapple.""Ok." I walked through the house and picked up the phone, dialling the pizza parlour down town. Once I'd ordered they assured us they'd be round soon.I walked back through and Luce was curled up on the chair watching TV."The pizza guy said he'll be here soon," I told her, sitting down on the couch opposite."Cool.     Chapter Twenty One
    Luce
    I couldn't believe I was home.
    I couldn't believe I was finally home.
    I literally started sprinting round the house and now I was in my room.
    My room.
    It sounded so alien to me now. I'd spent so long in the coma, and longer in hospital.
    I could hardly remember the bed, the wardrobe, the drawers, the seat, the posters, the desk..
    I heard footsteps fall quietly behind me and knew it was Cole.
    I turned around and buried my face in his chest.
    There was a moments stunned silence and then his arms wrapped around me and I felt his chin resting on my head.
    I felt the tears coming on, and soon they were falling down my face, and my body was shaking with each sob.
    I felt Cole's hands rubbing my back gently, soothing me.
    "Sshh.." he whispered. "It's okay."
    I nodded slowly, trying to get my hand in between my face and his chest to wipe away the tears.
    He gently pushed me away from him and put his hand on my chin, forcing me to look up at him.
    Then he used his thumb to wipe over my face, catching up all the tears.
    When they were gone, there was a few moments silence as I looked at him.
    "Luce. I will always, always be here for you. No matter what."
    I wrapped my arms around him, pressing my cheek into his chest. "Thank you."
    My voice was barely a whisper. But I knew he heard because he held me tighter and I could feel him smiling into my hair.

    So, I hope this is making you guys see, I'm not following the same plot as TB.
    But as I've said, there will be some twists in this story..(:

    "Cole! Oh my gosh, slow down!" Luce cried.
    I looked over at her and smirked. "I'm not going that fast."
    "You're over the speed limit!"
    "By like, 5 miles an hour."
    She looked at me, mouth open in shock. "Cole, slow down. Please?"
    I felt an amused smile creep up on my face. "Luce, it's okay."
    "It won't be when you get booked for speeding!" she shouted at me, grabbing onto my arm.
    I spun my arm round to catch her hand in mine and didn't let go.
    I looked at her. She was staring at our hands. I smiled and looked at the road.
    After a while, she switched on the radio.
    The Script came on and she looked out the window, resting her head against it, but our hands still stayed locked together.
    "We're smiling but we're close to tears, even after all these years..." I heard her singing softly under her breath. I pretended I couldn't hear but I smiled to myself.
    "We just now got the feeling that we're meeting-"
    "-For the first time," I sang along. She looked up, startled and I grinned at her.
    She smiled back and we continued singing until the song was over.
    We got home pretty quick, and she instantly ran around the house like a wild dog. She was laughing and smiling and twirling in the halls. I had to run to keep up with her. When she reached her old room, she opened the door slowly.
    When she'd gone into the coma, we hadn't touched her room. We'd hardly been in it for three years.

I walked out the door, snatching my car keys off the counter and clicking the car doors unlocked. After I was buckled up, I turned on the stereo and blasted it all the way to the hospital. When I opened the door we both broke into beaming smiles."I'm so excited!" she squealed. I laughed. "Ready to go?""Sure!" she grabbed her bags and followed me out of the room. "Excuse me, where do you two think you're going?""Um...?" I started. Luce turned and the doctor smiled. "Oh ok Lucy dear, you're free to go.""Thanks, see you later!" Luce called, bouncing off ahead of me. I shook my head at her with a smile on my face and followed. When I caught up with her, I tried to take her bags from her, but our hands ended up locking together and neither of us made a move to break apart.We walked out of the hospital, and I'm sure we looked like an innocently happy couple. Wrong..

    Cole was keeping something from me. It was so obvious. In the way he moved, acted, spoke.
    What I couldn't understand, was why he couldn't tell me?
    We were always there for each other, always.
    Why couldn't he trust me?
    Why couldn't he tell me?
    He'd changed so much since I'd gone into the coma.
    My whole life had.
    I wondered if Abbey and Aaron even knew if I was awake...
    Suddenly I was angry. Why had they left me? Why had they left Cole?
    And then my anger turned on Cole. Had he called them? Had he decided not to? Why wouldn't he be honest about anything with me?
    My eyes started to water and I hastily wiped them away. Stupid tears...
    Just then a doctor came in.
    "We'll do some final tests and exams on you, Luce, and then you're free to go."
    I nodded and laid my head on my pillow while they did all the exams.
    Finally, I called Cole.
    "Hey," he picked up.
    "Cole... can you, uh, pick me up from the hospital? I'm free to go."
    "Sure!" he sounded happy enough. Maybe he was just in a bad mood?
    "Ok. See you later."
    He hung up. I jumped out of bed excitedly and packed up, waiting for Cole to take me home.

    Ah, not written in ages.. I've been busy with exams and stuff, but I'll be writing more frequently soon!

    I wanted to tell Luce everything.
    But there was absolutely no way I could tell her.
    I looked up at her and her worried eyes were locked on mine. I sighed.
    "Well?" she said, raising an eyebrow.
    I decided to lie. "It's.. It's just my parents."
    Her eyes widened a fraction. "Cole-"
    "Luce, calm down. They just.. you know.. hit me a few times..." God I hated lying to her. I hated seeing her worried over me. And this time she was worrying over a lie. I hated myself for doing this to her.
    "Oh my god!" she nearly shouted. "Lift up your shirt!"
    "Luce, seriou-"
    "Lift up your shirt."
    I rolled my eyes and lifted it up a little, enough to see a few of the minor bruises.
    "Higher. All the way up!" she ordered.
    "You're way too understanding for your own good," I muttered, lifting it up the rest of the way.
    Her mouth dropped. "COLE! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL SOMEONE?" she shrieked.
    I dropped my shirt and put my hands on her shoulders. "Calm it. I'm fine. I've had worse."
    "Worse? You've had worse?"
    "Uh...."
    "Cole, this is serious. This is abuse. This is illegal. You have to tell someone!"
    "It's no big deal, Luce, I'm absolutely fine."
    "Oh sure, apart from all those bruises and cuts all over your body!"
    "Luce, calm down."
    She took a steadying breath. "Okay."
    "Good. Now, let's just talk about something else ok?"
    She looked away. "I'm tired. Would you mind leaving?" she asked in a small voice.
    I sighed and got up. "Sure."
    "Cole, I-"
    "It's okay. I understand." I ruffled her hair before leaving.
    I began the long walk home, hoping I could slip in before mum or dad caught me.

    "I don't know," Cole replied quietly, looking down at his hands.
    He'd been really quiet today.
    "Ok."
    We sat in silence for what seemed like forever.
    "I'm heading to the canteen," Cole announced, standing up. "What do you want?"
    "Uh..."
    "Chocolate cake?"
    "You got me," I laughed.
    He smiled but didn't chuckle like usual before walking out.
    Something was wrong. Something was definately wrong.
    When he came back he chucked a chocolate cake packet at me. "Heads up."
    I caught it before it hit me smack in the face.
    He slumped down in his chair and picked at his sandwich. He'd hardly eaten anything the whole day he'd been with me.
    "Cole?"
    "Mmm?"
    "Everything alright?"
    He looked up, a startled look on his face.
    He eventually replied. "Yeah?" he said slowly. "Why wouldn't it be?"
    "You've been acting a little... off lately."
    "Have I?"
    "Yeah."
    There was yet more silence.
    I looked up and saw him staring at me with pained eyes. I knew there was going to be some explanation so I waited for him to tell me.

    I knew them from last year, from the gang...
    Suddenly I jabbed my elbow back, catching one of them in the ribs.
    They let me go, and I felt another lunge for me.
    I swung my right leg up behind me, tripping them and saw them go sprawling across the sidewalk.
    I took the remaining ones in.
    There had been five in total. Two down, three to go. I could handle this.
    I waited for them to come at me, and when they did, I ducked between their clenched fists.
    They spun round to face me again but I was ready for them and got two of them in the gut. They doubled over clutching their stomachs. The last one cocked his head and ran straight at me. He picked me up and swung me over his shoulder. I hit the sidewalk hard but managed to crouch and swing my leg round to trip him. He fell over and I took a few steps back.
    Some of them got up including the leader, Beck.
    "We'll get you. Don't get hung up on your pride, Cole." Then he turned and walked away and the rest followed him.
    . I stood silently, watching them disappear again, and then I hurried home.
    As soon as I got there, I ran upstairs for a shower before my parents could see me.
    Bruises were already covering my body and I had a few cuts.
    I stepped into the shower and let it wash away the pain.

    Thanks to xxtiffanyxlovexx for pointing out that in TB, Luce was 11 when she was in a coma. In Complications I've made her a little older to fit in with the plot of this story. So yeah, hope that cleared things up a little bit.
