Chapter 1 Part 2
“You must be Payton, Brett has told me so much about you,” She grinned, while reaching a tanned manicured hand out to shake. “I’m Sam,”
Payton accepted the hand, and shot a glance at Brett. “Nice to meet you, how do you know Brett?” She asked, grasping his hand.
“While he was in Arizona, I happened to be visiting family there. I just recently moved here, and he offered to introduce me to you,” She smiled.
“Did he now,” Payton said skeptically, squeezing Brett’s hand as hard as she could.
“Ow,” He murmured.
Payton brushed her bangs behind her ear and kissed Brett on the cheek. “Sorry,” She breathed.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you Payton, but I have to get going. Bye,” Sam said with a wave, as she picked up her purse and floated out of the diner.
Payton spun around to face Brett, raising her eyebrow.
“What?” Brett said.
"Your friend couldn't stay long," Payton said as she picked up a menu, and waved a waitress over.
“I’ll have a hamburger, with fries, and a chocolate shake,” She said. She closed the menu and dropped it in front of her.
“I’ll have the same thing,” Brett said, never taking his eyes off of Payton. He grabbed her chin, and gently pulled her face towards his, planting a soft kiss on her lips. “Don’t be mad,” he whispered.
“Why would I be mad? You just meet some gorgeous girl on vacation and she just so happened to move here,” She said crossing her arms. “No, I would never be mad about that.”
“It’s not like anything happened,” He said defensively. “She friends of the family I guess, and I thought you two could be friends,” He sighed.
“Yeah, right.” She breathed.
“Enjoy,” The waitress said, as she placed their food on the table.
Payton picked up a fry and ran it through a glob of ketchup. She plopped it into her mouth and picked up another fry.
“Payton, you know I love you...” Brett said softly, as he stared at his plate.
“I know..” She sighed.
