    Just A Kiss.
    Prolouge
We all know what love is like. What love is. It's risky. It can be complicated. But it's...magical.
It's what makes your stomach twist into butterflys. It's beautiful to no end, absolutley and completley wonderful.
However, when love is between two people who aren't even supposed to talk to eachother, it gets complicated.
    ~
My name is Maria Whitman. I'm 16 years old. My family is a first class family, which seems to be a big deal. I don't think it's that great. Yes, we have money.
We live better than most people. But I see what money has done to my family. My sister Ember, who used to be sweet and thankful, has turned into the most ungrateful 15 year old I know.
My parents, it's gone to thier heads too.
My mother is a pain. All she cares about are looks, and money. I'm home schooled, because public schools "aren't for me." Even now in the summer, I still have to take certain classes. I have to be a piano perfessionist by the end of the summer.
I can only hang out with people she approves. I can only date people she approves. I can't do anything without being watched, or judged. I'm supposed to act like a "lady." God forbid I wear something other than a designer skirt...
I know what your thinking. "Poor little rich girl."
Maybe you're right. Maybe I should be thankful for what I have. But I'm not. I'd trade lives with you in a heartbeat. All I want is a normal life. I want to have friends. I want to go out, wearing jeans. I want to fall in love.
With whoever I want to fall in love with.
    But I can't. It's forbidden.

    Just A Kiss.
    Chapter One
"Maria, get dressed for dinner!! The guests are expected at 5:30, and you better be down here by then, or there's going to be a problem!!" my mother called from downstairs. I let out a sharp breath, and answered, "Alright!!" trying to hide the annoyance from my voice.
I know it sounds rude, but I hate having guests over. My mother is going to be on my case all night. Atleast more than she already is. I can hear her disprovement already: "Get your elbows off the table. Stop tapping your fingers. Don't play with your hair."
I closed my notebook, capped my Sharpie, and made my way to my enormous walk-in closet. I skimmed my fingers along the rows and rows of all the dresses my mom had bought me over the years. I hated every single one. I stopped at a simple white sundress I wore only one time since I had it, and pulled it off the hanger.
I shrugged out of the designer clothes I was wearing, and wiggled the dress up over my hips. I gathered my light blonde wavy hair into a low elegant bun, securing it with bobby bins. I touched up my make-up a bit, swiping some clear lip gloss onto my already rosy lips. I took one last glance at myself in the mirror before I left, looking for any imperfections my mother would just have to point out. I didn't see anything wrong, but surely she would.
The doorbell rang just as I was hurrying down the marble staircase. My mother was already at the door, pulling it open, and forcing a fake smile to greet our guests.
I didn't know who they were. A tall man with greyish hair, stood next to a petite woman, also with streaks of grey in her once fully auburn hair. They both smiled so widley, I was sure thier mouths would be sore later. My mother motioned for them to come in, and take a seat in the dining room. I almost didn't notice the boy who came in right after them. He looked about my age, and incredibly wealthy. He had the same auburn hair as his mom, and blue eyes. You could say he was handsome.
There were 6 chairs in all at the dining room table. My father sat at one end, my mother at the other, leaving 2 chairs on either side of the table. The man and woman took a seat next to eachother, and I didn't realize until we had to sit down, that the only seat left was the one next to the boy. I took my place next him, and he gave me a warm smile. I returned it.
"Maria, I'd like to introduce you to my boss, Mr. Sullivan, his wife, Mrs. Sullivan, and thier handsome son, Ryan Sullivan," My mother said, guesturing to each one as she spoke.
"It's nice to meet you all," I replied as politley as I could.
For the rest of dinner, the adults mostly just talked about things I tried my best to tune out. I focused mostly on the chandilier above our heads, admiring the way it cast rainbows across the ceiling. Every now and then, I'd catch Ryan stealing glances at me. To be honest, that made me a little uncomfortable.
Hadn't anyone ever taught him staring was rude?
Eventually, when the adults were deep in conversation, I exused myself to the kitchen for a glass of water that I didn't really need. My mother just waved me off.
I didn't even notice Ryan had followed me until I felt his hot breath down my neck, and his hands snake around my waist.

    Just A Kiss.
    Chapter Two
I whirled around to find Ryan, standing about 2 inches from my face. I gasped in suprise, and quickly ducked underneath his arm, trying to put some distance between us. I didn't like it when people stood so close to me. It made me claustrophobic.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," he said.
"Uhm, it's-it's okay," I stuttered. For some reason, this guy made me nervous.
"You know what they want, right? Why they even asked me to come along?" he asked. Confused, I shook my head.
    "What are you talking about?"
"Well, they want us together. Think about it, my family is rich, so is yours. We're perfect for eachother. Plus, you're hot," he said, and moved closer to me.
"We should probably go back-" I started to say, but he interrrupted me, by forcing a kiss on my mouth. I squirmed underneath him, but he wouldn't move, so I went still underneath him. Then, he finally pulled away.
    "You done?" I asked.
He smirked. "Well, for no-" he started, but didn't get to finish because I brought my hand up, and slapped him hard across the face. I know it wasn't very lady like, and mother would disaprove, but I couldn't just let him disrespect me like that. So, I did what any woman would've done.
I watched as he rubbed his reddening cheek, and muttered a few choice words at me.
"A little fiesty I see? That's okay sweetie, we can work on that," he smiled warmly, which seemed very innopropriate. I left then, but made sure I threw a dirty look in his direction before I did.
I sat back down at my spot at the table, and finished the last bit of my lamb chop. About 15 minutes later, the Sullivans finally left. But not before my mother insisted on them coming over for dinner again sometime soon, and they agreed.
    Great.
After they were gone, my mother claimed she had a migraine, and exused herself to her room. I helped the maids clean up the table a little, because I didn't like the idea of having a maid anyway. When I was done, I make a break for my room. Once inside, I shut the door, changed into PJ's, and grabbed my notebook. I went to my favorite spot in the room, a little sitting area on the edge of the window, and stared out at the slowly setting sun. The sky was laced with pinks, and purples.
I often found myself falling asleep there, watching the stars shine.
I sat upright when I saw a small movement in the garden. I squinted my eyes, and saw a boy with jet black hair, and tanned skin from working under the sun all day. I watched as he pulled weeds, and trimmed the bushes. My mother must've hired him because she was too lazy to go out there and do it herself. The garden was my favorite place here, so I spent a lot of time there taking care of the garden myself. Not that she would notice.
I watched the boy for awhile, and suddenly he looked up, locking gazes with me.

    Chapter One
I followed Jace to his old pick-up truck, and hauled myself up ioto the sticky leather seats. It was pretty humid out tonight. Not so unusual for summer night in Georgia, though.
We reached for the radio at the same time, to fill the awkward silence, and our hands bumped. I felt myself flush, and I swear he smiled. Just a little bit.
"Where do you live?" he finally asked, glancing over at me.
"Uh, make right at at the light," I said. He nodded. It was silent for a moment.
"So I'm guessing that was your boyfriend, right?" he asked.
    "What Dustin? Yeah," I replied.
"I want to tell you a secret about Dustin," he began,"In the eighth grade, Dustin and I were bros. We hung out all the time. Wanna know how many girls he knocked up that year?" he asked, with a big sarcastic grin on his face.
"You're joking," I said through clenched teeth. He had to be just messing with me.
"Ask him," Jace said. I stared at his face, looking for any signs that he was joking. He looked serious. I shook my head in disbelief.
Jace shrugged innocently, and reached into his pocket, pulling out a pack of ciggarettes. He lit it, and took a long drag of it, exhaling, and slumping back into his seat. He blew out rings smoke, as I watched it curl off the ciggerette, and float through the truck, over to my face. I gagged.
    "That's digusting," I remarked.
    "Maybe," he said.
"I wish you wouldn't do that," I said.
    "And why not?"
"Well, for one, the smoke is going in my face, and it could kill you," I said, waving smoke away from may face. He flicked an ash out the window, and drew it back up to his mouth, hesitating before he took another long drag.
Finally, he answered, "So what? I'm going to die anyway," he simply said, as if that were a good answer. I stared at him incrediously.
"Left." I said suddenly, and he jerked the wheel.
When we neared my house, I flung the door open, and got out before he had even fully stopped.

    Chapter Two
"JEEZ, SCARLETT! Atleast wait until I actually stop!" Jace yelled from the truck. I ignored him. I turned when I heard him coming up the porch steps behind me.
"What do you think you're doing?" I asked.
"Dang. Who p***** in your beer tonight?" he said, with a wide ridiculous grin spread across his face.
"I don't drink," was all I said, as I pushed open the screen door. He followed me in. I suddenly stopped, causing him to slam into me.
    "Woah!"
"Nope. Out," I said, pointing to the door. He threw his hands up innocently.
"Okay, I'm sorry! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you mad. Let me stay, please? I have nothing better to do tonight," he said. The Jace Maxwell wanted to stay at my house with me. I sighed.
"Alright," I said. His face lit up, as if he weren't expecting me to say yes, and slung his arm across my shoulders.
"Thanks sweetheart," he said. I shrugged his arm off.
"Sweetheart?" He winked. I shook my head, and decided the living room would be a good place. We could watch a movie or something. He plopped down on the couch, and I began rummaging through the box of old movies next to the T.V.
"How about this?" I asked, holding up Scream 1.
    "Sure."
We laughed the entire time. I had forgotten how stupid Scream 1 was. We popped popcorn, and ate vanilla iceream, and oreos.
I told him why I had gotten mad earlier. It was just that he made smoking seem like not such a big deal, and that bothered me, because my gran just passed away last year from lung cancer. He apologized.
By the time we were half way through Scream 3, I was ready to pass out. It had to be about 3am. Jace must have noticed.
"Come on," he said, and I felt his arms snake under my body, lifting me up.
    "Where's your room?" he asked.
"Upstairs," I mumbled, and he carried me up with ease. He gentley lay me down on the bed, and pulled the covers up over me. I fell asleep almost instantly, but not before he kissed my cheek, and whispered,
    "Good night sweetheart."

    Chapter Three
I woke with a start, wondering why I hadn't been woken up by my parents noisiness instead of the sunlight that was currently streaming through my window. Then I remembered that they left for Alabama to visit my great aunt shortly after I left for the party last night. I smiled at the thought of last night. I felt great. And I had gotten to sleep in. Life was good.
I grabbed my phone, and saw that I had two missed calls from Dustin, and one text from Jace. Jace. I forgot I had given him my number just before I put in Scream 1. I decided to call Dustin first.
"I can't believe you," he answered on the second ring. I frowned.
    "What?"
"I can't believe you got into the car with that freak," he said angirly.
"Exuse me? I'm sorry, but he wasn't the one in the middle of the road puking everywhere completley wasted. And he isn't a freak," I said, and hung up. I can't believe he was actually mad. What did he expect me to do? He was drunk. No way was I getting in the car with a drunk person. Maybe if he'd let me drive his car for once, we wouldn't have this problem...
    I opened up Jace's text.
""Moring sweetheart," it read. I cracked a smile at that.
"Hey," I texted back. My phone vibrated about a minute later.
"Go get dressed. We're getting breakfast. I'll be there in 20." Breakfast with Jace. Why is he all of a sudden nice to me? I've never even spoken to him until last night. Maybe it was all a little wierd, but I was starving.
So I texted him back saying, "Kay :)"
    ~
I was finishing combing my hair, when I heard his loud truck pulling into my driveway, and I hurried downstairs, grabbing my purse. I pulled myself up into his truck, and he smiled at me.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked, "Is there something on my face?"
"No. You're just really...nevermind," he said, slightly blushing.
I just made Jace Maxwell blush.

    Chapter Four
I smiled, clearly satisfied I made him blush. We ended up going to this small diner on the corner of a street. I've never actually been there before, even though I drove past it every day. He opened the door, and the bells jingled.
"After you," he said in a strange accent, and stepped aside, holding the door for me.
"Why thank you," I said in the same accent, and walked in.
"Two," I said to the waitress, and she led us to a table for two next to the window. She asked what we wanted to drink, and we both wanted a coffee. She smiled, and said she'd be back in a minute to take our order, leaving us alone.
"Thank you," I said to Jace after she was gone.
"For what?" Jace asked. I shrugged.
"Everything. Giving me ride last night. Taking me out to breakfast. It's just...I've never even talked to you before, and you're being so nice to me," I said. He ran a hand through his shaggy hair.
"Yeah, well, I saw that you needed a ride. I couldn't just let you go with Dustin, he was completley wasted. And after hanging out with you last night, I realized I kind of like you," he shyly said. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks again, but I quicky composed myself.
"Well Jace," I started, leaning forward, "I kind of like you too," I whispered. For a second, I thought for sure he was going to lean forward to close the distance between us until our lips touched, but the waitress came back to take our order, snapping us back to reality. We both violently blushed, and I felt terribly guilty.
Dustin. How could I have forgotten Dustin? I'm the worst girlfriend ever. We ate our breakfast in silence, and when we were done, he drove me home in silence too. As we pulled up my driveway, he cut the engine, and we sat there for a few minutes. Finally, I got out without a word. To my suprise, he followed me.
"Jace, please just leave," I said. Jace looked frustrated, and fiercley grabbed my shoulders, forcing me to face him.
"Look Scarlett, I really do like you. I know you're with Dustin, but...I don't know. I know you don't know me, but I've known you since elementary. I just want you know, that I always thought you were beautiful. Even back then," he said, and released my shoulders, leaving me there speachless. I stared as he got into his druck, and drove off.
I felt empty. Why? I barley knew him.
But you like him, a voice in the back of my mind, that I recognized as my own, whispered.
    Crap.

"Come on Scarlett, just get in. I'm really not that drunk," Dustin slurred. I knew he was that drunk. There was no way I was going to get in the car. But I really did need a ride...
It was a Saturday summer night, and Dustin was my current boyfriend. He had talked me into going to this stupid highschool party that one of his friends had thrown.
"No way Dustin. Now get out, I'll call my parents," I said. That was last thing I wanted to do. I knew they'd kill me, and they probably wouldn't let me see Dustin anymore.
"Come on baaabe. You know you can't do that. Just f****** get in already!!" he yelled, trying to sound angry.
"She said she didn't want to," said a husky voice behind me.
I turned. It was Jace Maxwell. He had his hands shoved into his pockets, and was staring right at me. This was suprising, since I have never spoken to him before, much less, even heard him talk to anyone before.
Jace was sort of the...outcast. He kept to himself. There were still rumors about him, though. He was a rebel. Did whatever he wanted, been in and out of jail. Of course, those were just rumors.
But he sure did have the look, I thought, looking him over. He had on big boots, ripped black jeans, and a leather jacket over a faded tee-shirt. He was actually kind of cute, with his shaggy dark hair, and bright blue eyes.
Dustin's voice interrupted my thoughts, "Dude, f*** off," he said, fumbling with the car door, trying to get it open. When he pulled the handle, he fell out onto the asphalt road. Jace laughed.
"Scarlett, do you need a ride home?" he asked. I looked at him, trying to figure out if he was serious or not. He was. I looked from Jace, to Dustin who was currently puking in the middle of the street.
"Yeah, sure," I told him, and walked hastily to his side before Dustin could see.

    City Girl Meets Country Boy.
    C h a p t e r // O n e
"I can't believe this," Charlotte muttered from the back seat of the car. Her dad glared at her through the review mirror, and she knew he had heard her. She pretended not to notice. Her and her family were driving from New York City, to a small town called Springfeild, in Tennessee. All because her mother lost her job, and now they have to move. On the first day of summer. All of Charlottes summer plans, ruined.
Charlotte began to think of all the friends she was leaving behind, and had to swallow back tears. It was all so unfair. Her best friend, Lauren was devastated.
"Promise to come back for the holidays," Lauren had said with tears in her eyes. Charlotte promised she would, so long as Lauren kept her updated on everything she was missing while she was gone.
Charlotte hated her parents, and was dreading living in Tennessee with them. Atleast in New York, she was almost never home, so she never had to be around them. Now, they'd be living in an old plantation, right next to a farm, that she would most likley be forced to work on. Great.
"A city girl will never fit in in the country," she had argued with her parents. They didn't care about anyone but themselves, so it was pretty much useless to argue. If they said they were moving to Tennessee, then they would move to Tennessee. Charlotte never got a say in anything. She just hoped they'd let her pick her own room. She'd pick the one the farthest away from them.
Charlotte sighed, and put in her earphones, trying to block out the world around her. She was unsuccessful. She felt a pang of sadness, as she read the sign, "You are now leaving New York City!" She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes, threatening to spill over, as she watched New York fade into a big blob in the distance.
What am I supposed to do? she thought. She couldn't really do anything though.
Except be miserable, but she wouldn't give her parents that satisfaction.

Have a history teacher try to explain this to you.
Abraham Lincoln was elected in Congress in

John F. Kennedy was elected in Congress in
    1946.
Abraham Lincoln was elected president in
    1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected president in
    1960.
    The names Lincoln and Kennedy
    both have seven letters.
Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the white house.
Both presidents were shot on a friday.
    Both
presidents were shot in the head.
    Lincoln's secretary was named
    Kennedy.
    Can you guess yet?
    Kennedy's secretary was named
    Lincoln.
    Both were assisnated by Southerners,
    both were succeeded by Southerners,
    Both successors were named Johnson.
    Lincoln's successor was born in
    1808.
    Kennedy's successor was born in
    1908.
Lincoln's assinator was born in 1839,
While Kennedy's was born in 1939.
    Both assassins were known by
    three names.
    Both names are composed of
    15 letters.
    It gets better;
    Lincoln was shot in a theatre named Kennedy;
Kennedy was shot in a car named 'Lincoln'.
Booth ran from a theatre and was caught in a warehouse.
Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theatre.
    & here's the best part:
A week before Lincoln's assissnation, he was in Monroe, Maryland.

When I was in 3rd grade
A boy came up to me and asked if he could borrow a pencil.
We became best friends, but he moved away in sixth grade.
There I was, studying in the library in college.
when a guy whispered, "Can I borrow a pencil?"
I looked up, and it was him. We've been dating ever since.

Today in my biology class we were talking about hurricane([ Katrina}.
My teacher asked this really slutty girl what some of the effects
of the hurricane were, and she replied, "well everything got all wet and dirty."
Suddenly the quietest guy in class looks up and goes,
"Kate, no one asked about your weekend."
    MILA.
