I grew up with him.
We used to throw eachother in mud puddles, have cake batter fights in the kitchen, and fall asleep on eachother during long car rides.
He's leaving for the Army in a few days,
and he just came over to say good-bye.
I'm so proud of him,
but my heart's still breaking.

The worst part about my depression?
I have no reason to be depressed.
I have an entire family of people who are there for me.
I have a mom and dad who love me.
I have 3 very close friends.
I have decent grades.
I'm very fortunate..
Yet I'm still depressed.
I still struggle to find hope for happiness.
I still cut. I still make myself sick.
It makes me hate myself even more.

My parents influenced me to drink and self harm to ease my pain.
No, they didn't sit there and say "when you're in pain, down some pills and drink your problems away, then go cut yourself."
However, my mom always told me in a half-serious-half-joking manner; "Oh here, have a drink, it'll make your meds work SO much better."
Whenever I'm in any form of pain, my dad, in the same manner, always says "Here, I'll punch you. It'll distract you from the pain."
They taught me to use medication, alcohol and another form of pain to cope with the pain I'm feeling.
They pointed me down this path.
