English is the main language in America. Therefor everyone should at least know the basics before they come here. I don't think that everyone else should have to go out of their way to learn another language just for a few people who think that they don't have to.
However, I do think it's good to learn other languages. But I don't think you should have to know seventeen different languages just to have a conversation with someone. reply

if tons of people are in other countries are required to learn english to pass basic schooling, why do we make it so easy for people in our own country to get away with not speaking the english language? if i moved to say, mexico, i would take the freaking time to learn spanish. Nobody else in the country should have to be putting extra labels on the food so i can read it in english, nobody else should be having to get turned down jobs because they can't speak a language fluently that isn't even the main language of the country i'm in. yes. we should all learn different languages. There is a difference between going on vacation and not knowing a country's language and moving to the country and not knowing how to read and write the language. if i moved out of my native country to go somewhere else, i would learn to read and write in their language. the same should go for other people moving to the US. reply

So they make one desperate attempt to get into America. Most are unfortunate, sent back into Mexico. A few are lucky.
Mexicans don't steal your jobs. They do the jobs you people don't want to. Farming, packaging and so on. They're happy with minimum wage, its more than they would ever get back in Mexico.
Okay then. So they speak Spanish. They don't even try to speak English.
A lot of Mexicans actually attend night school to try and learn English.
'Let them stay in their own country if they can't speak our language"
Okay then, how about none of you go on holiday next year? Don't go to France unless you can speak it fluently. If you want to go to France for two weeks, learn the language.
I'm sorry but a lot of you are ignorant to this. If you had no money and no food, would you let yourself and your family die? Or would you take a chance in another country searching for a better life to support those you love? Next time you see an immigrant, why not ask them about their hard life? reply

I honestly can't believe this is even a thing.
People speak a different language in our country, so? If you don't like it, don't speak to those people. Why should we force these foreign people to learn our language just because we can't understand theirs? I mean, honestly. English is the hardest language to learn, so to just simply learn it because some Americans have a problem with people speaking languages other than English for whatever reason, is just plain ridiculous.
In case you haven't noticed, the United States is very culturally diverse, henceforth having many different languages. English isn't the only language in the world that's acceptable, you know. Let people live their lives and speak whatever language they want and just get over it. You're not being forced to speak another language, so why force others?

The only reason Spanish is becoming such a big deal is because of illegal immigrants. Considering many people do speak English, it would be wise to learn how to speak English. My parents lived in Asia their entire lives and, long story short, moved to America and learned English. I get that you still wouldn't be able to speak English if you lived in America for only two years, but if you lived in America for 6+ years, it would be expected that you would know at least some basic English. I hate that how lazy people use the foreign language card as an excuse to not learn English. No, Americans speak primarily in English, so it would be wise to learn some English for your sake and the sake of everyone else. reply
