Colliding Paths
Chapter twelve
Cody's P.O.V.
I laid in my bed, tossing and turning. Why was I doing this? Why did I agree to this? I wonder if she can see how much she really terrifies me.
My hand absent-mindedly ran over my ribs. A sharp pain made me flinch and withdraw my hand. They were soar from Rosanna leaning on them earlier.
I gave up with trying to get some sleep and ran out of my room. I froze at the site of Rosanna's door. She was probably sleeping soundly while I was out here with a guilty conscience and fear eating away at my body. My hands started to tremble, so I quickly, and quietly, tip toed my way towards the steps. I Leaned all my weight on the edge of the stairs to avoid their old creaking moans. My eyes landed on Hayden with his head stuck in the fridge, looking for a night snack. Hayden never seemed to not be hungry, so I wasn't surprised. The only this I was surprised about was the fact that he never gained any weight. He pulled out of the fridge with some random left overs that looked like a mix of lasagna and hamburgers. The light faded as he closed the door and sat the pile of food down on the counter. His hair was tossed in every which direction and his face had a sleepy look to it. The room was dark again, but I could tell he was raising an eyebrow.
"Why are you up?" He questioned while shoving the cold food into his mouth. I made my way down the rest of my stairs and into the kitchen. I flipped on the small light attached to an outlet. I wanted to be able to see, but I didn't want to wake everyone up in the process.
"I can't do this anymore." I groaned, running my hand over my face. "It's only been a day and I feel awful." Hayden tensed with anger as he looked at me.
"Don't you want to get her back for what she's done? She could have killed you, and your going to sit here with her in your own house and not do anything?" Hayden whisper-shouted in my face, causing some left overs to hit my forehead. I wiped them away and looked back at Hayden.
"It just doesn't feel right." I mumbled while rubbing the back of my neck.
"Doesn't feel right? Doesn't freaking feel right? What doesn't feel right is why you had to be stuck with everything bad! You got stuck with brain cancer, some how defeated it, just so some chick can almost take everything away right in front of us?" Hayden hissed. "You're going to break her heart whether you like it or not. This isn't just for you to get revenge, it's so she learns a lesson." He spat, slamming the rest of the left overs in the sink. Hayden narrowed his eyes as he clenched his fists at his side. I couldn't help but take a step back out of fear. Hayden's face immediately softened.
"Cody, I didn't mean to scare you, I jus--," The phone rang, cutting Hayden off in mid sentence. His fists clenched again as he walked over to the phone. He did his best to take a deep breath, then answered the phone.
"Hello?" There was still a little venom in Hayden's tone, but I don't think anyone, who didn't know him well, would be able to detect it. "Yeah, yeah, sure." He muttered. A smile came across his face as he turned to face me. "Jaythan? It's Hayden... hows jail treatin' ya?" A pause fell over, then Hayden placed the phone on speaker. "Rosanna? She's asleep."
Jaythan's voice crackled through the phone. "Just go get her." He demanded. Hayden inspected his nails, as if not to care.
"So, you still love her, don't you?" A smirk plastered on Hayden's face as he spoke.
"That's none of your business. Now, let me talk to her." I could her an edge to Jaythan's voice now. It was obvious he cared for her, the way he looked when she got hurt was un-mistakable.
"Who's going to make me do that? Oh! An even better question is: who's going to make her do that?" I furrowed my eyebrows together. What is he getting at?
"What do you mean who's going to make her? Just go get her already." Jaythan's voice took on an impatient tone.
"You may want to talk to her, but she doesn't want to talk to you. See love, it's a two way street. It only counts if both the people care about each other. You may care about her, but does she care about you?" Hayden questioned. Still confused, I stayed silent.
"Of course she does!" Jaythan shouted, his voice taking up a small octave. I'd never heard Jaythan speak like this, obviously Hayden had struck a nerve.
"Tell me, has she visited you yet? Called the jail? Sent you a letter?" The other side of the phone fell silent. "Well?"
Jaythan cleared his throat. "I... I haven't been here that long. She's... probably been busy." I could tell he was racking his brain for an answer. I wouldn't know what to do if I were in his position. I wasn't even him, and I was at a loss for words.
"Too busy to contact you, but not too busy to spend the entire day in someone's arms?" Hayden barely got the sentence out before Jaythan screamed on the other line.
"Keep your f*cking hands away from her! I swear to god when--" Hayden clicked the end call button as his grin grew wider. My eyes almost popped out of my head.
"What did you just do?" I have shouted, my voice cracking at the end. "When he gets out, he'll kill me for sure!"
Hayden rolled his eyes. "Well obviously you can't follow through with this plan, so I'll do it myself. Just tell Rosanna you want to be just friends, and I'll work my magic." Hayden gave a small wink, then walked off to his room, leaving me standing in the dim light.
