Mrs. Nobody
Prologue
"Vinny, wait!" I call at his blurred figure swiftly walking away from me.
The rain carries my voice so I shout louder.
"Vinny, please! Let me explain!" I yell.
He turns around quickly and I run to catch up to him.
"Vinny, I'm so sorry," I whisper, my voice shaking.
"Explain." He snaps.
"I know I forgot all about your band's concert last night, I was invited some place with Olivia and Rayvon,"
"Oh, Olivia and Rayvon.. Your two best friends. The ones who dumped you when you weren't cool enough. Right.. That was right before I started talking to you when you had no one else." He says sarcastically.
"I just forgot, Vinny," I whisper.
"Yeah, right." He snaps before turning around again.
"Wait! I'm not done." I say.
I continue talking to his back.
"I remember awhile back, when we were arguing, I told you that you were a nobody. And that you should be honored that someone so pretty and popular would actually talk to you." I say quietly, feeling ashamed.
"But last night, Olivia and Rayvon brought me to a party, just so that everyone could make fun of me." I whisper.
"Am I supposed to feel bad?" He snaps.
"No, Vinny. I just wanted to say I was wrong. I'm the one who should be honored. You're a great guy and I'm the nobody. Nobody even likes me Vinny, no one except you."
I say, grabbing his arm to turn him around.
"Know what the sad thing is, Candice? That if you actually showed people who you really are, the way you showed me, people would actually like you."
He yanks his arm out of my grip and walks away to get into his car and drive back home.
"I can't.. Vinny," I whisper to no one. "I can't show people who I really am, because.. I'm not that brave."
