The dream
*Chapter one*
I stepped out of the cab and handed the driver a twenty. He snatched it out of my fingers and sped away, leaving a trail of smoke and not even a simple thank you. I shook my head and stumbled into the small apartment building, carrying the many bags I had. I slammed the door, leaving the cold New York wind trapped outside. “Oh hello! You must be Brooke”! An old lady said sweetly. She had snow white hair and was a little plump. I smiled and nodded my head. “Yes, Its nice to meet you”! I said kindly. “Let me help you with those, oh follow me. You see its not often we get a new visitor. They come, they go.” She said sadly. I nodded sympathetically . I followed her into an old rusted elevator and looked around. The wallpaper was peeling and the elevator was extremely slow. When the door finally opened we stepped into a small hallway with little décor’s scattered about. The light flickered a little, showing this was indeed an old building. The lady hurried to the end of the hallway and took a right. I managed to race after her, my bags wobbling out of my hands. “Here we are”! She said excitedly. In front of me was a little white door with the number 34 on it. She unlocked the door and smiled. “Come inside”. I stepped inside to a small living room. It had hard wood flooring and brick walls. There was a white sofa facing a TV plastered on the wall. It led to a little balcony. Attached to the living room was a one person kitchen. The door to the right of the room led to my bedroom. It had light pink walls and the same flooring. There was a white bed frame, which I would place my mattress and its sheets. The master bathroom attached, was ordinary but classy. I nodded my head approvingly and smiled. “Its cozy, I love it”. I said happily. “Oh wonderful, just grand. Oh and Brooke call me Susie”. She said quickly. She buzzed around the apartment explaining all the little things I would need to know. Finally she handed me the key and swept out of the room smiling from ear to ear.
…
“Hi father. Yes the apartment is lovely! Um no I have not. Yes, yes okay, okay I will. I love you”. I hung up my cell phone and sighed. Moving to New York city from California was not my fathers idea. But pursuing my dream of being an interior designer motivated me to leave my parents California mansion behind and scrape up enough hard earned money after collage to buy a years rent at this apartment in New York. I worked two jobs and almost never got to go out, but soon it will all be worth it. If everything goes well I will stay here or maybe even move into a house, but first I needed a job. After hours of searching on my MacBook Air I finally had scheduled an interview at “The Home of Your Homes”. It was an interior designing business, one of the biggest New York had to offer. By 11:00PM I had settled into my apartment and unpacked everything from my large vanity to my face wash and toothbrushes. I flopped down on my bed and turned off the lights. This was the first night in my new home, but all I could think was that
Tomorrow was the day of my dreams.
