Written In My Heart
Chapter 16
"What were you thinking!" Eli's voice rang in my ears. It was harsh, and cold. We were n his room and he was lecturing me on how stupid It was to attempt to find my biological father.
"Eli, please, I don't want you to be mad, its ju-" I was cut off by Eli, once again.
"Don't want me to be mad You don't have the right to just find someone who has never been in our lives and except everything to be fine after that." His expression was weary and upset. I never meant for him to be so upset, I never even meant for him to find out. "Eli" I said finally "I'm sorry" He let out a deep sigh and just stared at me. His dark hair falling into his eyes. He sat down next to me.
"You just don't understand what this could do to Mom and Dad. And everyone else in this family." He glanced out the window. "I know your upset about this but you just can't go through with this idea okay?" I hung my head low. I hated when Eli was disappointed in me. He was my big brother, and I didn't want to have a bad relationship with him/ He held his arms out for a hug, and I rested my head on his shoulder. He always knew how to comfort me.
"Elle!" my Mom called out "Were going to be late!" I rushed down the stairs, bag in hand, with wavy curls bouncing on my shoulders. My mom was invited to some barbecue were all her old friends would meet up. It started at 4 and probably ended at 8. My mom has been excited about this for a whole 2 weeks, and wouldn't stop talking about it, she was relentless. "Coming" I shouted from the door. I closed the door behind me and squeezed in the car with my Dad, Mom Laura, Drew, Jay, and Eli. I sat next to Jay. Before we new it, we arrived at a huge white house with navy blue shutters and a red door.
"Wow" Drew said, practically gluing his eyes to the window.
"Its so big!" Laura squealed. She was right, it was big, it was huge. If you looked from a distance, you could probably mistake it for the white house. I saw smoke emerging from the back of the white house. The grilling must have already started. We piled out of the car, and my mom lead the way up to the door. She was greeted by a tall blonde women with white as can be teeth, and emerald green eyes. "Sadie!" She said in a very friendly high pitched tone. She stretched her arms out for a hug, and my mom excepted, stepping forward.
"Suzette!" She said, a broad smile across her face "Its been so long!" They hugged and shook eachother back and forth, until Suzette realized we were all standing there.
"Oh come in!" She said directing us with her hands. "The parties out back!" I started walking down the fowyer when Suzette stopped me. She looked awfully familiar, but I couldn't seem to put my finger on it. "Oh!" She said "Elle, you've grown up!" I smiled awkwardly and she leaned in for a hug. "Oh my! You must not remember me all to well!" I nodded well, your mother and I were best friends ever since grade school, we had our children around the same time, and raised you guys together. until about 8, when I moved away, and we lost contact." I nodded, memories of this flooded back. "My son is Kaleb, remember him?" She signaled me to walk out to the back. Still standing by my side, she kept talking. "You two were , Your mother and I thought you too would get married one day. You just did everything together!" She clapped her hands together. In the backyard, there were about 2o people here so far. No one really my age except for a few kids. "Why don't you go and get something to eat?" She pointed out a big grill with a table of food on the side. The person grilling had on an apron that said "Kiss the Chef". I smiled and walked over to the table where I met up with Laura. She was giggling and telling a story about when her and her friend went to the museum.
"Laura" I said "You hungry?" She came over to me and put her hands around my waist and looked up at me "Yes, Yes, Yes!" She had a smile across her face, and her 2 missing front teeth were hard to miss.
"Hamburger of hotdog?" She let go of my waist and started rubbing her chin with a serious look on her face.
"Hamburger!" I moved my attention to the table and picked up two hamburgers. I handed them to Laura, and she put a pound of ketchup on the burger. "Save some for others, Laura." I was setting the ketchup back on the table when I felt a hand slide on mine and take the ketchup. I looked up and saw a boy about my age, with dark dark brown hair, almost black. He had the brightest blue eyes, and I couldn't help but stare at them.
"You okay?" He said after me staring a bit.
"Yeah, ugh, sorry." I winced. He smiled what looked like a million dollar smile and put ketchup on his hotdog. Laura grabbed my hand and I quickly grabbed my burger and followed her.
"Who was that?" She asked stuffing her face with hamburger.
"Um, I'm not really sure." I looked back and the mystery boy was talking and laughing with an older man. Laura and I walked over to a table where my mom and dad were sitting. We set down our plates and started to eat.
