Do it All; A story about addiction.
Preface:
I wasn't a mean girl, nor had I ever had the desire to be. However, as I sat amongst my group of friends who were laughing at my expense, a strange anger came over me. Adison looked at me and smiled; she didn't mean any harm. Then again, she never meant harm.
They were high. We all were. I'd been high many, many times prior to this, but, unlike them, I didn't want to sit back, laugh, and chill this time. I had been pushed too far. The boys smiled at me, holding the pipe out towards me. I shook it off and their faces were bewildered. For the first time ever, I got up, unlocked the door, and I stormed out.
A blizzard greeted my coatless body as I exited the house, slamming the door behind me. I wrapped my arms tight around my body and I ran. Snowflakes splashed against my frail frame. I heard footsteps behind me. Assuming they were those of one of the boys, come to lecture me about Adison, I sped up. The footsteps behind me did as well. I sprinted forward, until the person behind me caught up to me. It was Adison and she ran in front of me, blocking my path.
"What the f*ck Kimber?" She interrogated, her arms crossed over her chest. She didn't have a sweater either. Her eyes were glazed over and bloodshot.
"I am just so done, Adison. It's not even funny."
"C'mon!" She yelled, "You have got to be kidding me Kimmie! It was a f*cking joke, you still know what that is don't you? Let's go back! We can't go home like this..." Her lips were turning blue and the snowflakes were landing in her black hair.
"I'm not going back there right now Adi! You begged me to move in with you... Begged. And against my better judgement I did! You said things would be great... you said things would be better. How the f*ck are they better... for anyone? We're losers! We sit around with our graduated 20 year old friends with no jobs and we do drugs Adison."
She scoffed, "This is what we wanted Kimber. Don't you remember?"
"I didn't want this." I said, looking down at the black, slushy road. "I think... I think I need a cigarrette and to go home. I think you should just go back there... I think you should tell them that I'm f*cking perfect and take another hit because I know it's killing you... We'll talk later."
She looked at me bewildered. Tears were welling in her eyes. She whiped them away fiercly; unable to let anyone see her cry.
"We said we'd do it all..." she breathed. "You said we'd do it all together." She pushed past me, bumping her shoulder into my arm."
"I never wanted this." I confessed to myself.
