I actually attack the concept of happiness.
The idea that everything we do is part of the pursuit of happiness seems to me a really dangerous idea, which is fear of sadness.
We’re kind of teaching our kids that happiness is the default position -- it’s rubbish.
Wholeness is what we ought to be striving for and part of that is sadness, disappointment, frustration, failure; all of those things which make us who we are.
Happiness and victory and fulfillment are nice little things that also happen to us, but they don’t teach us much.
Everyone says we grow through pain and then as soon as they experience pain they say, 'Quick! Move on! Cheer up!'
I’d like just for a year to have a moratorium on the word 'happiness' and to replace it with the word 'wholeness.'
Ask yourself, 'Is this contributing to my wholeness?'
and if you’re having a bad day, it is.

No one is born hating another person
because of the color of his skin, background, or religion.
    People must learn to hate.
And if they can learn to hate,
they can be taught to love,
for love comes more naturally to the human heart
    than it's opposite.
    Nelson Mandela

    let me tell you this:
if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you,
it is not because they enjoy solitude.
It's because they have tried to blend into
    the world before,
and people continue to dissappoint them.

"if i killed myself tonight, the stars would
still appear, the sun would still come
out, the earth would still rotate, the
seasons would still change...so why not?"
    Screw this post.
    Screw this post so much.
    you want a why not?
How about the way your best friend's older sister will throw up by the side of the road because she's crying so hard?
How about the way your best friend will sob for weeks in the shower, in her bedroom, in the bathroom at school?
How about the way your mother will cry every time she looks at herself in the mirror and pictures herself bringing you home?
How about the way your father's eyes will NEVER stop mirroring the image of your hanging body?
How about the way your boyfriend sits in his room in silence, unable to eat, sleep, or even shower because what's the point to continue without you?
How about the way your sister will wake up every morning and see your door, and convince herself that you could still be there, sleeping in your bed?
How about the way your ex will come over, pull your clothes from the drawers and cry while he holds them to his face to breathe in what's left of you?
Don't you dare tell me it won't change things.
There may be stars in the sky and wind in the air and sun in the clouds, but without you
    we don't want them.
Don't you dare be selfish enough to believe you aren't important to us.
    So screw this post.
and screw the romanticism of suicide.
and screw you for leaving my sister to cry in her room when she thinks nobody can hear.

"If you find a girl who reads, keep her close.
When you find her up at 2am clutching a book to her chest and weeping,
make her a cup of tea and hold her.
You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real,
because for a while, they always are...
You deserve a girl who can give you the most colourful life imaginable.
If you want the world and the worlds beyond it,
    date a girl who reads."

my school is putting on a production of Annie.
My name is Anna (called Annie by family), I was adopted, I've seen the movie and five different theater productions. I've had every song memorized since I was three.
I've been in five plays at my school in the past three years,
but I've never wanted a part more than I want this one.

I used to feel so alone in the city.
    All those gazillions of people,
and then me, on the outside.
Because how do you meet a new person?
I was very stumped by this for many years.
And then I realized you just say "Hi."
They may ignore you, or you may marry them.
    And the possibility is worth
    that one word

    look at you.
    you're young. you're scared.
    why are you scared?
stop being paralyzed. stop swallowing your words.
stop caring about what other people think.
    wear what you want.
    say what you want.
listen to the music you want to listen to,
play it loud as heck and dance to it.
go out for a drive at midnight and forget you have to work the next day.
    stop waiting for friday.
    live now. do it now.
    take risks, tell secrets.
    this life is yours.

try to imagine a life without timekeeping.
    you probably can't.
you know the month, the year, the day of the week.
there's a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car.
yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. A bird is never late.
A dog does not check his watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays.
    man alone measures time.
    man alone chimes the hour.
and, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

I believe in a lot of things
I believe in moments, and kisses, and tea.
I believe in books, and people, and art.
I believe in the sunrise and the sunset,
and all the moments in between.
I believe in the fact that we are all made
up of stardust and we have
a part of the universe inside us.
Sometimes, I even believe in love.
It's a shame really, because I believe in all those things
but I don't believe in myself.

IN A SOCIETY SO GOVERNED BY SUPERFICIALITY,
    BY APPEARANCES AND PETTY ECONOMICS,
DREAMS ARE MORE REAL THAN ANYTHING IN THE "REAL" WORLD.
REFUSE IS NORMALCY, BEAUTY IS EVERYWHERE,
LOVE IS ENDLESS, AND JOY BLEEDS FROM EVERYDAY EXISTENCE.
    EMBRACE IT.
EVERYBODY CONTAINS A UNIVERSE OF POTENTIAL; EXHAUST IT.
LIVE AND LOVE SO IMMENSELY THAT WHEN DEATH COMES,
THERE IS NOTHING LEFT FOR HIM TO TAKE.
